  • the PSU box

Aye, forget the dust, this whole rig with the PSU hanging out is sketchy af. Also, the barely hanging expansion slot cover, waiting to short something with the slightest bump is also a nice touch.

Endless list of vaguely related posts.

It's designed to keep you scrolling to the next post to show you more spam instead of making it easier to engage with comments, which to me was the whole point of being there.

  • Weirdly enough, I can find a PICTRS__MEDIA__PREPROCESS_STEPS variable in pict-rs 0.4.0-beta.8 release notes, but not in pict-rs 0.5.4 readme that lemmy is currently using. I might to check this again after some sleep.

edit: going through the pict-rs source code, that variable is indeed there, just these aren't in the readme file.
I think TheDude was planning a test instance, this would need some testing first.

  • Wait, I meant... that version of pict-rs has that feature, which lemmy doesn't currently use.
I don't more if it's something that can be set globally for pict-rs, or if lemmy code needs to be modified to leverage that pict-rs feature.

  • Yea the error messages all around lemmy could be a lot better.
Sometimes it only times out and you don't know why.

Lemmy is currently expecting pict-rs 0.5.something which should already have the feature mentioned.
I know there's a few new tweaks already planned in lemmy, including allowing users to see a list of their own uploaded content, etc. I can't promise anything just yet but that would indeed be nice.

  • RAM is cheaper than my time.
I kinda consider 32GB as a minimum for anyone working on my team.

  • Yea I miss the hardware fingerprint reader that was on my last one. The under screen reader is much slower and less reliable.

  • I'm fairly sure that kid would have done this regardless of said sign though.

  • OP is a racist jumping through alt accounts. In their mind, they're making of fun of some imaginary dissonance between people liking the person in the top image and not liking the person in the bottom image.

They only ever see through the perspective of a racist.
In their tiny mind, "other race = inherently bad", so to them, non-racist people must surely be going... "other race = inherently good".

To them, race here was some magic card they can pull out as a gotcha, as if we should like Musk because he's African.

Their little brain cannot fathom we might dislike Musk because he's a billionaire narcissist sociopath and not because he was born in Africa.

    Would be something like...
[...] of the day for the kids of less than six weeks of work.

It didn't make sense in French either.

    Autocorrect aneurysm posting

  • .world has a bot that sends private messages to their users when mod actions are taken against their account.
In this case, OP posted something, it got removed, they got the message.
It's not that they can't post, it's that they posted stuff that got manually removed.

Evidently they can post, because we're all commenting under one such post.

  • It's not that you can't post because you're a local user.
You did post there, it's just that the community mod removed it because it didn't belong in that community (their call not mine). This has nothing to do with being a local user.

It's just that lemmy.world notifies their users about removals and bans. Whereas in general, you'd need to consult the modlog to know about it.

  • The same applies to pictures of hikes. Sure you can take a nice panorama but that doesn't do justice to actually being there.

  • Mine came from a floppy disk that I can't read anymore.

  • I hear ya.
I get 1-6 meetings in the same time slot, people don't care to check so I don't care to show.
I decide which meetings are important for actually moving stuff forward and screw the rest.

There's only ever one guy who complained to my boss...
I didn't show up for a meeting for a Friday 7pm, invite sent at like 4:58pm the same day for some inane and absolutely not urgent subject.
I saw that invite come in, chuckled, closed my laptop, went home and ignored it.

Later that night, the guy went nuts and CC'd everyone's bosses because he had wasted the full hour and obviously no one showed up to his meeting "even though I made sure to check everyone's calendar and everyone was available and you're all unprofessional".

I don't do emails notifications on phones as a rule unless you wanna pay my rate 24/7, but I had forgotten to do my time sheet so I was logged in doing that...

I dabble in a bit of passive aggressiveness in the face of corporate bullshit, so I finished my timesheet and hit propose new time... Sunday 3:21 am...
"Checked your calendar and it was available. Sorry for the inconvenience."
Closed my laptop and fucked off.

The guy went nuclear over several emails.
Sent a quick email to my boss "Just a heads-up, I think I angered someone by not attending their 7pm meeting they sent at 4:58pm and proposing an equally ridiculous time"

Never heard from the guy again and the next week he wasn't in the company AD anymore.

Probably went full tilt cookie monster in the coke jar or something.

  • Pfff, there's barely any double-booking in that calendar.
