  • Thanks, that's an interesting read.
I know that's one person's opinion and not a thorough research, but that's still plenty of red flags.

I've used the 100 searches in the free trial, thought the search was fine, better than Google's these days. The subscription is a bit steep so I held off, kinda glad I did after digging more into this.

Having what little employees they have also make a mac-only browser, AI stuff and email that their user base doesn't seem to want is all a bit weird.
Buying a t-shirt factory (wtf) with the money they could have used to potentially lower the subscription, but decided to burn through it to give out free t-shirts. That just screams narcissism-driven to me.

Their vague statements on privacy isn't convincing at all.
Some variation of "we don't care about your data" isn't in any way compelling evidence that you care about protecting the privacy of said collected data.

In my opinion they lack focus, commitment and conviction into what I thought was their primary mission at first glance: being a privacy-focused no nonsense search engine.
Although that's probably on me for reading what I wanted to see between the lines and that never was their stated mission, which would explain a lot.

  • Hey there's 2 of us.
I wouldn't care if my property stagnated or dropped in value if it meant people could afford a better life.
It only has said market value when I'm selling and I don't intend on selling, probably ever.

I'd rather have a young family as neighbors instead of some management company doing the bare minimum maintenance and let it slowly crumble while milking renters. It's a better community.

In a selfish roundabout way I've started giving a hand to the new renters nearby that I like and help them with small things that their landlord won't fix.

  • 10 hours is a fucking long ass time.
There's no reason not to have called shuttles to get these people to their destination way before that.
They could have walked the rest of the way in less than that.
Utter lack of emergency response, let alone preparedness.

I'm sure they'll receive a lousy apology email from the CEO about how they care and are deeply sorry (but still won't fix their shit), and how this is an exceptional situation (but for which they have an email template).

I love trains, trains are great, but ViaRail needs to get their fucking shit together.

  • Walk-thru

    Jump
  • Yea, several thousand tons death machines operated by angry hairless monkeys isn't my favorite either.
I guess you're probably fine if you have a clipboard and look like you're inspecting it while doing your transaction.

This also works on constructions sites where no one wants to be involved with a clipboard.

My real question though is why the employee inside couldn't take care of whatever they needed done at an ATM.

  • There might be more profound reasons for women's lack of interest in you than money or power.
    Exhibit A: this whole comment

  • my university uses reddit as a primary communication tool

This idea is so weird to me.

  • eat better, get sleep, exercise and reduce stress

I love this idea even though I'd probably need to quit my job.

  • Probably OP replaced the word spoiler that's added automatically instead of replacing just the title.

  • He's actually working undercover for the Big Bear consortium, pushing women to choose the bear one comment at a time.

  • It's missing the word spoiler between the ::: and the header

    Like...

    ::: spoiler header
    Content
    :::

  • Insert some lunatic's ethnic space laser garbage conspiracy, but add sharks in there.

  • Yea, it's certainly more complicated than a simple IP bans.
Reddit uses a shit ton of fingerprinting on top of just using the IP.
IP info can be a part of said fingerprinting, but banning just an IP is moot and easily bypassed with a lot of possible collateral damage they'd want to avoid.
IP bans could ban unrelated accounts that happened to connect from your workplace proxy or mobile ISP proxy, but is easily bypassed by anyone with even a free VPN or coffee shop wifi.

I'm sure they have extensive data points to connect the dots between alt accounts, but it's assuredly not using only IPs.

  • Yea that's the thing.
I'm sure a team of scientists could eventually design an ethically sourced vegan cat food with synthetic versions of whatever is missing that could work fine for some cats.
The odds of a random lemming doing it right after reading one comment about it online is next to none.
Discussing it is one thing, recommending it and deleting anything that simply advises caution is weird.

  • The PSU is sketch but likely fine. I'm more worried about the expansion slot cover that's barely hanging.
I have an old pic somewhere of an old Frankenstein PC with the case cut with tin snips to fit a bigger GPU. It also had an external PSU for a while, although I did add a ground wire between the PSU and case. I'll see if I can find it.

  • Welcome to lemmy.
If it would make you feel at home, I'm sure we could arrange to have your lemmy account banned for an inane reason.
Otherwise, just ditch reddit and don't look back.

Seriously though, in almost all areas of your life, if you're gonna try to appeal anything to anyone... sass will probably not help you.

  • I would suggest to either remove the expansion slot cover or screw it back properly. As it is, it could probably fall and short something.
