  • Holy shit, I wish I could upvote this more than once.

In the US we live in a participatory democracy. If the citizens of this country don't actively participate in how the government functions, then all is lost.

One of the biggest tools that fascists use to subvert the will of the people is turn off various groups from caring about what is going on. They spread misinformation about this and lies about that. They act like things can get fixed with a snap of a leader's fingers, but that's not how reality works, so they complain about why we still have problems.

With that comes endless conspiracies and in general a mistrust and break down of government. And it all kind of steamrolls because the fewer people who follow the news and politics closely, the easier to let corruption go unchallenged.

  • There is an obnoxious love for communism and hate for capitalism?

What other edgy things is Lemmy into?

Oh, they love to hate on cars and roads, for some reason.

There's also that weird hypocrisy where they hate cops but love unions, but they don't understand that the reason they hate cops is because of unions.

  • Worst pain I ever felt was one day many years back I was trying to move a very heavy exercise bike at the gym. I went to lift it and immediately started feeling nauseous as a spike of pain ran down my arm. It hurt so bad but I wasn't sure what happened.

Lifting my arm sent more pain racing down my arm. It took me a couple of days to realize this wasn't adjust any normal injury. Ended up going to the doctor and he said I ripped the bicep from the bone on one of my arms. Needed surgery to reattach it and now I have a metal pin in there and a scar that likes to turn purple sometimes. Really weird.

  • Anything Biden is able to directly control, he's done a perfectly fine job at. You want to spread some misinformation bullshit that we live in a dictatorship where one person can decree that prices go down and automagically prices have to go down. That's not how reality works. That's not how any of this works.

  • I agree 110%.

I'm sick of Republicans controlling the narrative in Washington. Even when they aren't in power, because they have a unified amd consistent message, they are able to get the Democrats to endlessly waste their time and resources on made-up issues that Republicans use to distract the media and the nation.

Just like how Republicans have Jebus, guns, abortion and only a handful of other initiatives, so too must Democrats focus on only a small selection of programs to throw their full weight behind. Republicans have successfully overturned RvW and loosened gun laws because year in, year out, those are things they focus on. Democrats can't focus on a single issue for more than a few weeks before they seem to get bored and jump onto the next big travesty that they'll try to solve, not really accomplish anything, and then move onto something else.

  • Reaganomics was a horrendous failure for this country, and nearly 50 years later here we are with Republicans pushing those policies again on the American people.

What DeSatan is talking about is a continuation of Reagan's terrible "Starve the Beast" policies.

Starve the Beast is a plan by conservatives to reduce funding for various government departments and programs to a level below which those entities can function properly. Salaries and equipment cost money. Below a certain level, you can't do your job properly. And that's what Republicans have been pushing for a few decades now. Cut funding for programs, and then claim those same programs aren't doing their job properly, and use that as the excuse to kill off those programs altogether.

It is a self fulfilling prophecy all so big business and the ultra rich can pollute more, hide their real wealth from taxes, and make our children dumb enough that future generations willingly vote Republican.

  • Why is scrolling so weird?

It's not consistent. No other program scrolls this way. Everything else is a constant rate, but if there is a thread with a large picture, it scrolls too fast and then it stops too far down the page forcing you to scroll up.

And why not resize the pic so it fits the page better?

Also, I'm not sure if there's already a setting, but I hate how the title and the description for threads are not together.

Lastly, why are unread comments a dark, dark, dark Grey color, but the regular background is black? The colors are so close that you can't tell the difference between the two.

  • So the one time there is an actual political witch hunt going on in Washington, the Dems don't even blanket the media with those claims?!

We had a traitor in the White House 4 years ago who's corruption was unheard of, and yet to this day there are Republicans claiming he did nothing wrong and who still fully support Trump, and yet I guarantee you that there are Democrats out there right now ready to throw Biden to the wolves over some 100% politically motivated bullshit accusations.

    This is why Democrats lose.

  • Democrats wouldn't even fire the Trump appointed Postmaster General who is working on the inside to ruin the USPS, and we are going to believe they could stop Trump from doing any more harm to the government and its employees if he is elected?!?

  • You make your own reality. Some seem to wallow in their ignorance or their laziness or their failures. Putting even a little bit of effort to better themselves seems like too much work for some. They don't want to help themselves, but they sure demand that someone else helps them.

  • Of course they don't believe it!

Democrats do a shit job at celebrating their victories and communicating with average Joes.

Also this asinine "liberal guilt" prevents anyone from the Left to ever enjoy anything for fear that there might be one person out there who isn't doing so well and it would hUrTiNg tHeIr fEeLiNgS. It is absolutely exhausting dealing with these people who don't want to accept that unemployment is at an incredibly low number, interest rates are still at historic lows, wage growth is at 40 year record, inflation is dropping, and the economy is indeed booming. Times are indeed good, regardless of what the vocal naysayers tell people.

Then mix in an endless stream of foreign agent trolls who are purposefully trying to spread misinformation before the election. Whether they are Russian agents or right-wing conservatives masquerading as progressives, they are trying to bring people down because apathy is one of the best tools that Republicans have to keep people home on election day. Low voter turn-out usually helps the GOP.

Put all that together and it isn't surprising that Americans don't believe that the economy is strong.

  • Democrats have won plenty of elections with little support from the left already.

But when elections are decided by a few percentage points, every vote counts. And if the left can be bothered to put down the bong and get off the couch long enough to go vote, it can be enough to win again Republicans in tight races. But the Left never represwnts a majority of Democratic votes. But it sure seems like liberals want to hold their votes hostage until Democrats give them a disproportionate amount of attention. You know what that's called? It's called entitlement.
