  • DeSantis found the one Black person willing to put up with his endless string of crap.

Glenton Gilzean, the district's new administrator who is African American and a former head of the Central Florida Urban League, called such initiatives “illegal and simply un-American." Gilzean has been a fellow or member at two conservative institutions, the James Madison Institute and the American Enterprise Institute Leadership Network, as well as a DeSantis appointee to the Florida Commission on Ethics.

  • Does that mean there's only going to be a subscription based "pro" version?

I was a Pro user on reddit, but I'm not really interested in yet another subscription, even though I understand that may be financially attractive for you. I'd be happy to make a one-time purchase, though.

  • My theory is that many westerners in our current era have effectively replaced traditional religion with shallow political ideology.

I don't really think traditional religion has been replaced by political ideology per se. But I do think religion in the US has formed a symbiotic relationship with politics.

If you go to an evangelical church service in many areas, it is pretty much nothing but a Republican political meeting. In some churches, you're not even welcome if you're a Democrat.

  • I think it's pretty unreal that everything that has happened in the wake of the 2020 election and January 6th and Roe and so much more has apparently only cemented people in their partisanship. Absolutely wild.

  • I agree, but maybe the ambiguity and subjectivity of the word "confidence" is the point.

It's like when researchers measure the "happiest country in the world." Happiness is subjective, but that's the whole point. Whatever makes you happy is happiness and an objective, rigid definition would compromise the research. Maybe it's the same with "confidence"?

  • “I think you would agree with me that Meagan Wolfe is blamed for all manner of fanciful conspiracies that have no basis in fact,” said Don Millis, a Republican commissioner.

Facts don't matter to these people. They've made it clear that they believe in "alternative facts" if the actual facts don't support their agenda.

  • Also unlikely that Arizona will replace Sinema with a Republican.

Still, Democrats certainly have their work cut out for them to retain control of the Senate this cycle. Will probably be a lot easier to flip the House and retain the Presidency.

Doubt that Manchin and Tester will be reelected. That in itself would flip the Senate if everything else stays the same.

  • John 8: 5-10

In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground. At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”

  • Why anyone would vote for these Republican clowns is beyond my understanding.

Most surprisingly, evangelicals, who are devinely commanded to be good stewards and protectors of creation, seem to completely ignore environmental protection. Extremely unchristian.

  • I hear you. It's definitely hard for a lot of white people to understand our responsibility for reconciliation after so many years of brutality. But that doesn't mean the responsibility doesn't exist.

Germany is still working through its responsibilities for WWII and the holocaust even though few current Germans lived through that.
