  • Depends how you learn. Being mindful of what your goal is helps. C# can be used for console apps, it can also be used to make ASP.Net websites, further afield you can program the Unity games engine with C#. Each of these will have "absolute beginner most basic first steps" type tutorials out there. They'll all have some similarity as you'll need to just learn the C# syntax one way out another, but it miles easier doing this if you're vaguely interested in the types of apps you're heading towards.

If all else fails, message me, I was there once, about 20 years ago..

  • (UK) Last time I started in a unioned job the company (voluntarily?) told me about it during my induction, there were flyers in the break room, a poster in the break room with a named representative on my floor (a regular worker like me, it was voluntary) and official rep who I could call. Maybe once or twice a year the union did a presentation in a meeting room at the office and you could could take the hour (unpaid) to go and watch, after which you were encouraged to sign up. Semi regular emails through the year to my company email address about pay and bonus negotiation etc.

  • And even then the European countries that feel they're ahead of the rest tackling racism it's usually only the urban university educated talking with their fingers in their ears ignoring the majority of the rest of their country.

  • I know Jordan Peterson has a lot of followers. He says it's the women's fault men are lonely

Peterson has a habit of saying things that might technically be true in isolation but will then disagree with you when you try and make a conclusion from it. In this case he has also said it's men's fault for not making women a good enough 'offer'.

  • Your project sounds interesting and quite niche. Although it's presented well it's not something I'd immediately be inspired to contribute to, but there's nothing wrong with the project itself. What problem is it solving? Who's going to save time using it? Perhaps include a scenario so that people who aren't immediately familiar 'get' what it is you're achieving?

  • Because men are "allowed" to look however they want, grouchy, happy or 'keep the fuck away from me'. If a women does it she's got "resting bitch face" or gets told to smile. It's just a subtle way of saying "you don't look right here let me change you". If you kept saying it to guys they'd tell you to fuck off.

  • The Reddit I was a member of was the Reddit of 2005 - 2014, warts and all

Once VC / major shareholders came in the writing was on the wall. It was a shell of its former self by the time I was actually banned. Death by a thousand cuts. Certain topics sidelined, discussions less nuanced and more reactionary, the front page increasingly santised and "ad friendly". No more unpredictable truth, just bland banality, puns, bots and the hyper-offended. I fought it for a while then realised, Reddit had already died long before and this was a clear chance to move on

Joking aside. I struggle in everyday conversation or in most job settings because the small inconsistencies and inaccuracies that are a normal part of everyday speech accrue in my head without any discharge in a painful way and I either detach to cope (and look like I don't give a shit) or have to splurge back at someone all the minor nonsense logical inconsistencies they've been using over the last few minutes. Or people rely so much on you being in the same mental world as they are that I genuinely don't understand what they mean and come across like a pedantic asshole. From experience this is deeply unwelcome. I would not last long anywhere where normal conversation and ways of thinking is not the thing under the microscope.

In software development, I can take architects, senior devs, department heads, c-level execs.. whoever.. streaming technical info, regulatory requirements, business processes at me seemingly for any length of time because I can ask anything I want and at the end of it they'll ask me what's wrong with it and I can give them a list and how to fix it. I'm also completely immune to telling senior-whomever that they are wrong, because when I tell them, it's because they are and I can show them why.

For this I am paid $$$. Anywhere else I would be fired.

(Also, watch The Accountant, it's great)

  • I got IP banned some time ago so in an effort to not get my new account banned I used the official Reddit app and holy god it's terrible. Ad infested and constantly pushing "achievements" in your face. First upvote achievement! Logged in 3 day streak!! 5 day streak!!! Earn badges!!!! Look at mee!!!!! Look at meeeeee!!!!!

    Urgh

  • I had a 7 year old account banned when someone asked me what Ezekiel's famous "hung like donkeys" passage is all about in the bible. It's Ezekiel calling his fellow Jews a bunch of slags for "whoring" about with enemy nations using vivid and over the top language. It was completely obvious this was the nature of the conversation and the point of the post. Banned, appeal rejected, told to stop asking about it.

    Fuck them to be honest..

  • Unfortunately totally legal under international law with the United Nations blessing...

In 1972, China successfully petitioned the United Nations to remove Hong Kong from its list of non-self-governing territories, and declared that the colony was a "Chinese territory under British administration". The United Kingdom did not raise any objections to this and the local population did not think the move was significant, but the implication of this change was that Communist China alone would determine the territory's future, excluding the people of Hong Kong.
