My parents are eighty years-old, driving for DoorDash (using my car), and they're putting 1,000 miles on the car a week. There is no lifeline once my car dies, thanks to inflation. There is no other job for them, because no one will employ two octogenarians.
And I can look at the two flavors of conservatism headed our way in November and I low-key hope my mom and dad pass away instead of having to deal with the struggle that's going to come, because it's invariably going to get worse. I don't think civil war is coming, but I do think the capitalists are going to find new and shitty ways to make all of our lives harder.
I'm not sure about this kind of thing. Is this material that he wanted released to the public?
I saw an exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum several years ago of unreleased Marilyn Monroe photos, some of which had a big red (transparent) X over them, indicating that she'd asked the photographer not to print or distribute them.
I know how my paintings look when they're unfinished, and I'd hate for them to be on display in a state that I didn't want seen.
She is a someone whose public position on Israel is inconsequential because she is fully committed to ensuring that funding and weapons for their child genocide do not run out.
No, it isn't. Clearly, we aren't capable of shame here in the US.
If we had any shame at all we wouldn't be voting for Biden, Trump, or Harris. All three are enthusiastic supporters of Israel and their genocide, which apparently 99% of voters don't see as a disqualifying position.
Would you consider cop cities a threat? Or a president who openly and enthusiastically supports child genocide? What about a president who mocked the Defund movement on national television during the SOTU? What about a president who allowed Idaho to get away with criminalizing abortion? Or Georgia making it significantly harder to vote? What about a president who sees a $7 minimum wage in 2/3 of the US states and does nothing to change it?
I'm not arguing in Trump's favor here. I fully grasp that he's shitty too.
What I'm saying is if you want real change, it doesn't make any sense to vote Democrat, especially for one like Kamala Harris, who hasn't even put her policy proposals on her website.
I'm getting to the later stages of Jedi: Fallen Order, and bought the 'Pixels with a Porpoise' bundle on Humble Bundle, so I'm looking a several weeks of pixelated fantasy fun, I think.
Yet another instance where it matters that 2/3 of the states are controlled by conservatives and it matters a great deal that our do-nothing Democrats at the federal level are content to use their power only to enrich themselves.
Foreign citizens are not allowed to donate to US election campaign
Oh, they can indeed. That money just takes a more circuitous route. You might buy a few thousand of Trump's books or rent a block of rooms at one of his hotels for a while. That's a lot of money in his pocket that he can loan his campaign at 20% interest legally, and then funnel right back into his pocket. It's legal and both sides do it.
we're just going to risk handing power over to another Sinema
I remember being very excited for the Obama presidency in 2008, and then as the years wore on he showed himself to be a billionaires' president the same way Sinema showed herself to be a fascist. He expanded the US war presence throughout the world, legalized torture, militarized the police, brutalized Occupy, and made absolutely sure that the big banks didn't suffer any negative repercussions for destroying the economy. He had the power to codify Roe and didn't do it. He had the power to enact universal health care but opted to side with the billionaires and make it more expensive instead. He could have filled a SCOTUS seat but was more concerned about counting his money than fighting for the nomination.
That's what we're getting with Harris. She'll say nice things, and while we won't see her killing our citizens in the same way as a Putin or an Assad, her neglect will accomplish the same result, as it has since the last president we had that gave a shit about people: LBJ.
I understand why conservatives are excited for Trump and the lite-conservatives are excited for Harris, but we're sitting on nearly two decades of a $7 minimum wage, so I don't know how anyone who works for a wage can be excited about more Democratic or Republican rule.
Same. The Libertarians are scary in their own right.
The point is, nothing will change without the upset of the established order.
I mean, think about it. A week ago 99% of voters were arguing for two clearly brain-damaged candidates who support child genocide. Both sides also theink they're the good guys.
When your 80 year-old parents have to borrow your car to drive for DoorDash because if they don't they'll starve, then maybe you'll understand why some of us, despite the fact that we're progressives (NOT neoliberals) might actually like for Dems to use their power for good someday.
Instead of making and breaking promises and then shoveling money into war and child genocide.
If we're going to pretend that state-level victories should magically be credited to a do-nothing Federal Government controlled by Democrats, then let me remind you that 2/3 of the states are controlled by Republicans, and in 2/3 of the US states it's still perfectly legal to pay someone $7 an hour.
It matters that Biden, Harris, and their ilk don't do anything meaningful and rule as conservatives.
I get that it's a complicated issue, but as an artist myself, just feels a tad dirty.
