  • Also in Japan trans people aren't really seen as normal people, they are seen as an object of fetishization, or ridicule. It isn't a positive or endearing term. Japan generally isn't very accepting of trans people, in ways that other more liberal countries are, so this isn't surprising.

  • Was based on an incident involving a lemmy.world user yesterday but I thought it deserved some attention since there are still people who think that word is okay when it's not.

  • Ada probably won't ban Moss for anything, since she probably doesn't want to make it seem like she's 'taking control' of 196 against her (Moss') will. She's in a difficult position because people want the current 196 mods to quit squatting and give us the community, but she doesn't want to seem controlling. Which I don't agree with, the purpose of being an instance admin is to have control over the whole instance and to interfere with communities when it's best for the whole instance at large.

  • "Jokes" here seems to me like a cheap excuse not to get banned or criticized for it.

  • Agreed, this isn't the kind of thing that should fly or be okay because the person who said the bad thing said they were joking.

  • One of their mods has already been banned from here for being a Nazi, so it makes me question how much of a joke it really is.

  • I think this is a very important thing to point out, "it's a joke" up until it stops being a joke.

  • It doesn't seem like that is the case anymore, modern versions of Lemmy seem to pass downvotes through, since counts seem similar on other instances now. I don't understand why though.

@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone maybe this is something to discuss with the lemmy devs about since it diminishes the merit of disabling downvotes in the first place.

  • It seems drag was banned from the site for sharing people's DMs, though I'm sure that's not the whole story, drag has a history of being banned for way more than just the thing on the label. Looking at the comments on drag's home instance where it hasn't been removed, it seems drag was sharing those DMs in attempt to libel Ada for not taking the action drag wanted. That's on top of the fact that she did not give drag permission to share them. It's an asshole move for sure, and I have to say if I were in Ada's shoes I'd do the same.

  • Smoked Gouda is way better, has a much nicer flavor.

  • it's just a starter pack though, not an advanced programming materials pack.

  • Completes the furry aesthetic?

  • What’s up with the sink plug thing?

    It's a collar.

  • I would probably also consider this whole fiasco and pushback against Kolanki's very justified ban an act of bigot apologia, something else that is utterly unacceptable.

  • But will it actually be fine? Will everything actually be fine if our Admins won't handle community squatting seriously? How can someone be willing to ban people for thinly veiled bigotry so badly they wipe all their content, even the benign from this instance. But in cases of community squatting "Oh no I don't want to interfere with the community" that has no sense whatsoever!
