  • You want the US, the world's only super power, out of the defense treaty that protects these other countries from the very aggressive Russia? You think that's a good idea? Ok buddy...

  • I didn't know the president could fire judges as they are part of the judicial branch and not the executive branch.

  • Just do what they did on that episode of Mr. Robot. Raspberry Pi hack to the HVAC system.

  • As much as we'd like to joke about the sudden influx of new Lemmy users that will result from this lets all be real, it will be a few new users. Most Reddit users will accept whatever is thrown at them from that company while crying about it on Reddit. I don't know what the phenomena is but it seems that most people would rather stay on the bad platform than try something new and slightly different. I'm cool with that, I like niche platforms.

  • Did they do some corporate espionage on Boston Dynamics?

  • So is this considered distracted driving?

  • Yeah I feel you. I just want the old internet back. We had MySpace, StumbleUpon was a fun waste of time, and we could easily ignore politics. Now everything is political, everyone is an internet activist yet no one does what needs to be done IRL.

  • I thought software and thus code was protected as free speech?

  • So from my understanding and the consensus from Reddit/Lemmy when Trump first announced tariffs is this will only hurt consumers because the companies will pass the cost onto the consumer. Now that Canada is doing the same does this means that they are also passing a secret tax to their consumers as well? I'm not Canadian but I thought they were having a hard time with their economy right now so is this the best move to make for the consumer?

  • They let you use your own domain now. But I've been using this provider since 2018. The article I linked to was written in 2022 so 4 years later. I was already established so I'll have to go through a lot of services to change it. But if I change everything to my domain then what is preventing that domain from getting flagged? I don't know enough about spam filters.

  • I never said they were required to change it. I just wanted to put into perspective the power that Google has vs the power the US has. Also change the name of the Gulf of Mexico is not law. It did not go through Congress.

  • This is just so fun to watch.

America: "Executive order now! No US person is allowed to help the Chinese develop these technologies! We will imprison you traitor!"

China: "OK. We'll just develop it ourselves." DeepSeek enters the chat

    America: "Fuck! National security emergency!"

  • I've been using Tuta since 2018 so I'll give you some of my gripes:

    • The domain gets blocked by spam filters when I email other people. Not necessarily Tuta's fault but annoying.
    • I get a ton of spam and phishing emails. A ton. Everyday I'm flagging like 4-5 of them.
    • Tuta just got labels. I can now label my emails but Proton had it for years (I also use Proton)
    • Tuta constantly have outages. I hope they improve their infrastructure.
    • I personally like Proton's UI/UX better
    • I use the desktop client in both Windows and Linux. The Linux one is an Appimage that I have to run using --no-sandbox and I just don't feel comfortable doing that. Proton has Proton Bridge which I can use to interface with Thunderbird which I prefer. Now whether it's as secure or not I don't know because security isn't my specialty but I like using Thunderbird for my email client.

    Edit 1: fixed typo

  • Google, or rather Alphabet, is an American company. Trump is the president of America, the most powerful country militarily and economically. Alphabet is also subject to American laws and is currently under an anti-trust lawsuit with America. What makes you think Google can stand up against the US?

  • You're trying to understand the stock market? Lol

  • You know I really want to use PopOS because I support what they do. I just really like KDE. I'll keep an eye on their Cosmic desktop though.

  • Trump was elected in 2016 and it was a crazy time. WHO should have been on notice then. Don't rely on the US. Have contingency plans because the American people voted for this guy. Now he's back.
