  • I'm vehemently anti celebrity politicians in general, but Jon Stewart is not just some random actor or other celebrity. He's smart, educated, and well-informed. He knows politics. He knows how our government works. He's put his money where his mouth is for many years in terms of political activism, and he's been successful at it. He also seems to be genuinely a good person who cares about his country and his fellow Americans.

I would not only vote for him but campaign for him. Of course, I'm not a Democrat; I'm an independent.

  • That's true. I have read that it's almost exclusively Hyundai and Kia cars that are being stolen and that there was some TikTok video which shows kids how to do it.

I'm more interested in why these kids take that risk. I fully expect it's down to socioeconomic issues, but the socioeconomic issues were there a few years ago as well.

  • Cars are one of the first thing I would use as an example of something that's gotten better. Heated seats, heated steering wheels, better safety ratings, better comfort, power windows, power steering, ABS, backup cameras, adaptive cruise control....

  • It sounds like maybe you shouldn't be driving, but a license is a good thing to have just in case you might need it at some point. Maybe you will want to rent a car for something, maybe you'll need to drive for work. But if you get by without a car now, I wouldn't be stressing too much about getting a driver's license.

  • This probably isn't a problem most people here see in their daily lives, but if you live in a city in the US, you have probably seen an increase in carjackings over the last couple of years, especially those performed by teenagers. It's become a big problem here in Seattle.

A few years ago, the city had this push to try to stop incarcerating youth, but right after that started, we started to see a significant uptick in youth crimes. We can't not incarcerate them just because they're young. A 16-year-old can be just as dangerous as a 30-year-old. Some of these crimes are violent. I'm guessing the pandemic had something to do with the carjacking sprees (bored kids with little guidance?), but it really is concerning and needs to be dealt with.

What is it with teenagers carjacking people these days? What kind of intervention could prevent this? It often involves gangs, but not always. It seems to usually just be armed teenagers looking for an adrenaline rush.

  • I preferred the more subtle humor of the first game, along with the weapons and characters. The only thing I really preferred from the second was auto-pickup of money, which was a huge QOL upgrade.

I think I have fully completed the first one four times. Maybe five?

  • I don't think it's necessarily under duress the way that Ukraine is doing it. Those who are on death row or their equivalent thereof are not getting this offer. From what I read, this is excluding the most dangerous and violent offenders.

So you don't have people with exceedingly long sentences who qualify.

That doesn't seem like too much duress to me. A few years of my life staying where I am in a prison versus taking my chances on the battlefield to get out of prison faster (and protect my country, for whomever that matters to).
