  • Honestly I can't remember an LPT I got use out of. I think the format tends to draw inane platitudes rather than actually good life advice.

Almost every "life pro tip" I've seen has been either ridiculously common knowledge (LPT: wipe your butt after pooping!) or weirdly specific recommendations (LPT: most frozen ravioli or tortellini can be cooked in a bowl of water in the microwave (this one is literally on the front page of the subreddit right now!)) or just straight up ads.

  • There were ten months. Notice that September, October, November, and December all start with number prefixes ending at 10?

Well a few Roman bad boys decided to insert themselves in the middle of the year (July and August) and blew that idea to shit and we've never adjusted since.

  • This is generally quality control issues and it is obscenely rampant throughout most of retail clothing.

If you're interested in buying a new pair of jeans, grab a few of the exact same size off the shelf and try them all on before making your choice or moving to a different size. It's insane how much they differ (and while you're at it double check that both of the legs are the same length).

  • Iirc adblock plus has been known to get bribed to allow certain ads through. I'm struggling to remember the details, but there was some controversy with them a while back. If you have ublock you don't also need ABP, just update your filters on those sites that ublock "doesn't work" on

  • Iirc they backed a trans influencer drawing conservative outrage, then, after realizing that the conservatives were a large part of their customer base, they did a 180 and publicly cut ties with the influencer thereby also alienating the customers they hoped to gain in the first place while also not gaining back much of their conservative customers.

Someone feel free to fact check me I'm drawing on memory here.

  • Egg on toast. Takes just a minute or two to fry/scramble an egg and frankly you don't have to watch it like a hawk the whole time so you can make your coffee or whatever while it's frying. Throw a slice or two of cheese on top while the egg is still hot

  • Someone in the thread about his previous $5k fine made a really good point that low but increasing fines may actually be more effective in the long run as there is still the ultimate threat of imprisonment, but the fines should still prove as a deterrent (eventually).

Besides that, straight to jail has the potential to galvanize his crazy supporters into action, whereas the fines are actually punitive and his supporters who believe he's got oodles of money should be able to shrug it off as no issue.

Basically it seems like the judge could be playing the long game by the books.

  • At most banks the ability to overdraw when you swipe your debit card is allowed on an opt-in basis. At many banks the default option is to allow the customer to overdraw with their debit card. At most banks the language around being allowed to overdraw in your account contract is intentionally confusing. You can usually change this selection online or in you bank app, but if you're confused call the help line on the back of your card. I don't advise going in to a branch, as the branch bankers are the ones with the incentive to get your money, the call centers actually don't care as much since the credit goes to the branches performance metrics.

At ALL banks certain payments will always be able to overdraw your account REGARDLESS of your opt-in/out selection. These are recurring payments for things like gym memberships or Netflix, paper checks, and many other forms of ACH payment.

An important note: this specifically affects checking/savings accounts and their DEBIT cards. CREDIT cards are different.

Source: Used to work in a bank branch and had to work my ass off every time I opened an account to ensure that people were aware of how and when they could overdraw bc banks want to steal your money and that's not cool.

  • The lady isn't choosing to "have her feet up," she is essentially sitting on the floor and forced into the L shape by the rigid structure around her. There's still incredibly little range of motion just like a regular seat, except now with the added danger of a much more difficult emergency evacuation, especially for people with limited mobility.
