  • A patent troll is considered to be a company that just sits on patents and hopes to sue companies for profit primarily without having actual products.

Mossimo makes a tonne of products and has over a billion in revenue. It's not a patent troll.

  • Yes I can see how the company suing another company that has stolen its tech, stolen its high level employees and then refuses to admit any fault or issue has absolutely no base to sue on.

I agree in general with your statement, but it's completely wrong here. There is definitely a giant greedy asshole corporation here, and with the history that Apple was going to license it from them and didn't have an issue previously I know which one it is.

  • You make it sound like they're being assholes to Apple when in reality, Apple is the bad guy here. Apple was going to license the technology but instead tried to hire all the engineers and people who developed it and then make their own version in house. Genuinely just thought they could steal the tech and then out lawyer the smaller company.

In this case Apple clearly is in the wrong and is now fucking customers over because of its shitty practices.

  • Apple can easily pay to license the technology and utilise it, and has had multiple chances to over the years at reasonable prices.

This result is only because Apple is run by some absolute morons who were happy to try and steal the tech but got caught with their pants down.

As for making it available to upper middle class, there's plenty of devices out there already for monitoring blood oxygenation for under $100.

  • What's going on? It's overpriced and completely unnecessary for most people. There's also a cost of living crisis.

I play every game I want to on high graphics with my old 1070. Unless you're working on very graphically intensive apps or you're a pc master race moron then there's no need for new cards.

  • It sounds like we agree then. Ideally everything would be on every platform, but that's unrealistic so OP is pretty much complaining needlessly. It's good there are different platforms and competition.

  • Who cares if it is on Steam or not though?

If everything was on everything then sure, that would be great. But that's not realistic, and having this alternative where everything is on Steam but not elsewhere is not a good solution for that because Steam will be shit one day, and already has quite a few shitty issues.

Honestly, people have this ridiculous view of PC gaming and Steam sometimes. Look around the world and show me where having one company having a massive hold over that sector has ever worked out well long term for consumers.

  • I've never found it more convenient to use Steam or another store over piracy so it doesn't make much difference to many.

Some of the games I do own on Steam now don't work either, so it's not like it's an amazing store.

But if it's inconvenient to download a different client just to buy a game then you're just lazy. It's not like you have to subscribe to it, it's just a click and 5 minute wait.

  • You don't understand investing if this is your view.

Investors like these make 100s of these investments, and expect at least 50%-75% of them to fail. If theranos was successful they'd make 100x their money back, and that's the whole point. You only need 1 or 2 of those out of 100 and you're making absolute bank.

Otherwise you think some kid walking in saying they're going to disrupt taxis and take over the ride share industry worldwide would be successful? That some kid who dropped out of Harvard has made some magic social platform that everyone will be using? All of these ideas sound stupid/unrealistic and like bad investments, but if they work they make billionaires.

  • Lol as someone else put it, it's silly to complain that you won't buy a game because it doesn't use the marketplace you want to use.

Steam is just one marketplace and it needs competition. One day it's going to go through enshittification and when that happens you'll be thankful other marketplaces exist.

Sometimes I honestly wonder why PC gamers get so riled up over inconsequential things.

  • Well the simple reason is you can get stuck in certain world views or ideas which are wrong and hurt others.

In most cases you're fine, like talking about your favourite TV shows or whatever. But it's also easy to get stuck in a view like visiting your country's instance and it turns out it's a bit radicalised against immigrants, or certain places where you end up blaming everything on women and the "woke movement".

In a lesser way it can get you stuck in toxic ideas (e.g., PC/Playstation/Windows/Xbox/Linux is better than the other one and you are dumb if you disagree!).

Just depends on the community at end of day, but the more echoey chamber it is, the more likely you'll end up with those sorts of us VS them world views that are a bit blind and horribly biased.
