  • Mint is based on LTS and they release two versions a year and update their package base. I respect what the pop_os guys are doing, which I guess includes you, we need more modern DE's besides gnome and KDE. I know what LTS is, it's just odd that you guys haven't updated pop_os for over a year, and the last time I used an OS that did the same thing, Solus, the whole project went to shit. I'm on endeavourOS now, but I've been keeping an eye on the progress of cosmic hoping to see an updated version of pop because I genuinely love the style and look of the OS. If you're updating packages and keeping up to date on as many packages as possible then I definitely retract my original post.

  • Avoid the moto g series, they're a clean Android experience but moto cheaped out on the CPU and they're terribly slow. The Google pixel 6a is a good cheap phone and it's going to get updated to Android 14 and security updates for another 2 years. I've been enjoying it quite a bit and it's a clean stock android experience.

  • I daily drive Linux every damn day and I've had multiple scenarios where Linux runs better than Windows. Guild wars 2, elden Ring, TF2, csgo, dota2 running vulkan. I would never go back to Windows...and it is problem free, running AMD hardware and I've never messed with drivers ever, and installing games is as easy as clicking install. How is that so fucking hard to accept?

  • It's nearly the same if not better in damn near every game I've played...guild wars 2 for instance had a 10-20 fps increase in certain areas on my Linux install over my Windows 11 install. It happens, I know it's hard for you to accept, but I daily drive endeavourOS and I would never go back to Windows and miss out on so many options to play my games better than I could on Windows.

  • If the performance is the same it's not going to matter. Is native ideal? Yes, but if it runs perfectly on proton and at performance parity with Windows, it doesn't matter. Proton was a massive "fuck you" to Microsoft. It removes the Windows requirement without creating any negatives.

  • I was watching a league stream on twitch because I thought I might try to get back into it a little, but one of the ads in the twitch chat that was sponsoring the streamer was for a league Smurf account seller. I noped the fuck out of league and uninstalled instantly. I might give dota 2 another shot now, smurfs were really killing the experience of learning and playing the game.

  • Okay, I'm running an arch Linux install as a daily driver with multiple open source application alternatives to proprietary software, but yes, I have no idea how open source works...come on...I'm done with this conversation.

  • Does their app store run on Android? Then it doesn't really matter, it's not toppling Android because it's using Android. Samsung has an app store too, and Motorola, guess what? They all run on Android. What you're wanting is something like Samsung's Tizen, which was it's own OS outside of Android. If you are specifically calling out the Play store, then that's a completely different scenario.

  • Um, no. If they're still using Android then they're only adding to the monopoly. The only way your comment would be true is if Huawei made their own operating system that wasn't based off Android, and frankly nothing that has actually tried to kill Android has ever worked, not even Samsung's attempt.

  • Project gorgon as others have said is the first native game that comes to mind. Guild wars 2 runs great on proton and that's my recommendation. FF14 is great if you don't mind the subscription and can get through the vanilla campaign, which is a massive slog and a major setback in the quality of the game IMO. Guild wars 2 is a similar situation in that it's a slog for the personal story, but after that it picks up and that's only like 40% of the vanilla campaign as opposed to the whole vanilla campaign of FF14. The FF14 fanboys don't want to talk about the vanilla campaign and for good reason, it sucks, it's just not fun. The game doesn't get good until heavensward.

  • You're full of shit. Post the logs or GTFO. You probably haven't enabled the next Gen driver for Xbox controllers or even basic Xbox controller support or even generic controller support. Your tv probably has a setting that controls the HDMI port signal and it's unable to detect the connection because the dock isn't providing enough of a signal for your TV to detect, turn that shit off because it's trash. Your video doesn't show shit, just you being a dumbass. How is anyone supposed to help you when all you post is you holding up your controller and literally nothing else? Also, your steam streaming of baldurs gate is that small because you're too stupid to change the output on the streaming device to match the resolution of the TV. Stop blaming valve for your blind bullshit ignorance.
