  • Had an iphone11 and it was fine. I switched to a pixel 6a for multiple reasons though, mainly Google Fi. The iPhone would use data when it didn't need to and I couldn't control the data limits easily because the cellular settings would switch whenever the phone would get an update. I was hesitant but I'm glad I switched. Face id is the only thing I really miss.

  • I'm a self proclaimed valve fanboy, I use Linux with proton and wine-ge, and I buy games on the epic store. I try not to have purchasing biases, if the price is good on epic and it's feature parity with other PC storefronts, I'll buy it on epic and install with heroic launcher. I've only ran across a few games that don't have feature parity with steam, the biggest being that remnant doesn't have cloud saves on epic. However, these cases are few and far between and most of the time I'm fine buying on epic.

  • That's interesting, I have a Samsung Odyssey plus, but I've honestly never used it outside of half life alyx. That was when I was still dual booting with Windows 10, now that I've beaten alyx and realistically there's not a ton of replay value, I don't really have a need for VR.

  • This comment is honestly incredibly thought provoking. When you really think about it and the whole of games that just work on Linux now thanks to proton, there really isn't a game outside of games with proprietary anti cheat that don't work, and even then, some do like Apex. There really isn't anything out there keeping me on Windows.

  • I second this, switched back to EndeavourOS after a brief stint with Nobara and I couldn't be happier. I haven't really found that solid OS I had been looking for until Endeavour, and I think everyone should give it a shot. They literally lay out everything you need to do after the install to get things up and running with their welcome tool.

  • I have two of them, and they're great controllers. It has a really nice dpad and the joysticks never had any reputation for stick drift. The Bluetooth implementation suffers from the same problem all Bluetooth controllers have though, latency. If it weren't for the shoddy Bluetooth implementation it would be the perfect controller.

  • I have YouTube premium included in my pixel pass subscription, so this doesn't necessarily effect me. However, you have a grossly uninformed opinion on data and how it works. You think data caps and fast lanes would've saved us from advertising? I'm sorry but the sad truth is it wouldn't have, the money from the ISPs isn't going to trickle down to the website owners, that's not how it works, that's not how any of this works. That's kind of one of the big arguments against data caps and fast lanes, it limits those websites from receiving traffic and in turn ad revenue. If anything those data caps would make things worse.

  • How about fuck no! Can we please not give this guy a platform to campaign on? Please, for the love of all that is left in this country just don't give him an inch. I can see it now "The crooked Democrats are trying to use the political systems against me! Never has this happened in the history of our great country! The Biden crime family is trying to blah blah blah blah.......!!!!"

  • This is the real problem for me, I can forgive the goofy bullshit and half-ass benchmarks, but that is straight up sexual assault and harassment. There's no way I'm supporting them until they address the allegations professionally and without some stupid "sponsor" joke video apology.

  • The thing about the series s is that it's a phenomenal 1080p game console. Anything higher than that and it's going to struggle without some kind of upscaling technology. I bought one because I don't have a 4k tv and it just made sense. I also have a PS5, it gets more attention but I mean come on, it's a PlayStation and it's a damn good one, but I can't express how impressive it is that Microsoft packed so much power into that tiny box.

  • Went from iPhone 11 to Pixel 6a. The only thing I miss is faceID, The fingerprint sensor works for the most part but it's not perfect, face id was always accurate and worked every time. Performance is great, the os is smooth, I had a moto g power before the iPhone and it was garbage, the pixel 6a is night and day compared to that phone. I was a bit hesitant to move back to Android, I was pretty accustomed to iOS, but Android 13 is amazing and I'm hoping 14 is even better. I just wish I had waited a little bit longer and the 7a would've been available. The best part so far has been using it with Google Fi and pixel pass, I get guaranteed upgrades every 2 years to the latest phone, and it includes YouTube music and premium as well as play pass. Honestly the perks of the pixel and pixel pass have paid for themselves.

  • You do understand that Meta actually releases a ton of FOSS right? The LLM API that most machine learning algorithms use is based off Meta's open sourced language model. I don't like Meta as much as the next guy, but they do SOME good things every once in a while.

  • Nah, they didn't win, the results of these protests are going to be felt for a while and have shone a light on federated social media. Organic growth will always trump corporate growth and greed, that's the advantage of the fediverse.

  • Thunder is very nice but it's very slow to populate comments and posts to the point that it just skips through the comments. I'm trying to decide if I care about the whole sync data collection nonsense or if I want to use a FOSS app instead. I was also using Voyager and it was pretty good.

Edit: thunder doesn't seem to be updating my subscriptions automatically for my secondary account so that's a bummer. I was starting to slowly lean towards thunder as my primary app since it seems to be the smoothest UI experience outside of Sync. Voyager also has a really smooth UI, but it's not a dedicated app. Liftoff is my default at the moment. It just works.
