  • You know what's really funny? CDPR only had one big AAA game release without any major problems, the Witcher 3. Thronebreaker was a small scale game based on something already made and I don't feel that one counts.

    The Witcher 1 and the Witcher 2 were bad enough at launch that they had to release an "enhanced edition" of both games to fix the problems. If you don't believe me, then just look at the piss poor Linux "port" of the Witcher 2.

    The only reason the Witcher 3 wasn't in such a bad state was because it was delayed like 4 or 5 times and released a year and a half later then it was intended. Cyberpunk 2077 has followed the same development path as the Witcher 1 and 2, but for some stupid reason people thought CDPR was immune to bad releases.

  • This is really good information, but I just can't get behind it I'm sorry. Things started to go downhill once dlss and fsr really started to take off and it's shown in damn near every major PC port. Remnant 2 is another culprit, the game ran like trash, even when I was running it through an rtx 4080 on GeForce now. I couldn't get it to go above 45fps even in 1440p on high settings without dlss in ward 13. This is becoming more commonplace with every release, baldurs gate 3 seems to be the only exception.

  • If fsr and dlss are any indication, new technology has the capability of improving that performance for lower end hardware. The problem we're seeing now is that games are using dlss and fsr to "optimize" games instead of optimizing the game first then adding those technologies afterwards. I'm not saying every dev is doing this, but there are clear standouts where fsr and dlss are being used to pick up the slack for optimization, Starfield being the latest culprit.

  • For the most part they use stock android on their Zenfones. Their camera software, I have no experience with, but the pixel phones are typically the best quality photos out there because of Google's machine learning and tensor chips, so any competition is going to have a hard time catching up to the pixel in terms of photo quality.

  • The loading screens are atrocious even for a Bethesda game. Walk up a ladder, loading screen, open a door, loading screen, dock with another ship, loading screen, travel to another planet in the same system, loading screen, land on a planet that's already loaded, loading screen, exit the ship, loading screen. Maybe it's different on PC, but I'm playing on a series S that has pretty fast read/write speeds and that's just absurd. Pretty sure if my character could use the toilet there would be a loading screen for the bathroom.

  • I mean, my opinion is anecdotal I suppose. I have friends that like it and some that think it's just okay. For me, I just wasn't having fun and that's the point of games, to have fun. I also don't really think their whole "NASApunk" style is very good. It doesn't feel like it has any unique style or identity. It's honestly baffling to me how it's gotten some 9's and 10's for scores. It's easily a 7 out of 10 for me, maybe even a 6. It's definitely not the game Bethesda sold everyone on with marketing IMO.

  • I don't like it, so many loading screens, the faction bounties are copy/paste, the space combat is awkward, neon was a huge disappointment to me being just one long corridor with neon signs, the main quest railroads you like no other Bethesda game before it and it's just not fun to me. I've come to the conclusion it's just not for me and moved back over to baldurs gate 3 and recently started another new run in the outer worlds.

  • That's great, then I stand corrected. I don't use pop on a regular basis so please don't think I'm trying to insult your work, simply stating the perception from the outside. Clearly that's not the case and I'm in the wrong. I also didn't know you rebuild the ISOs every week as again, I don't use pop regularly.

  • I think after a certain model number they fixed most of the stick drift issues or at least made the controllers more reliable. I think it was around when the horizon forbidden West bundle came out, they had a new model number and then they released the colored versions of the controllers. I have two dualsense controllers that have been beaten to shit by children and they don't have stick drift, one of which is a camo controller and the other is a white controller from a horizon bundle. I also have an edge controller for myself, but I bought that for the peace of mind mostly.

  • It's just refreshing seeing a company publicly state smurfs aren't tolerated. It's always this unspoken thing that smurfs are just always there because they're not technically against any TOS. Finally a company has the balls to float out say smurfs ruin the game for others.

  • China absolutely steals, my company had a data breach about a year ago, the bad actors were traced back to a Chinese competitor. Thankfully they didn't get any of our IP, but they were specifically looking for IP to steal. It's a known thing, China simply steals and uses shitty materials to make substandard products, they've been doing it for decades.

  • Mint is based on LTS and they release two versions a year and update their package base. I respect what the pop_os guys are doing, which I guess includes you, we need more modern DE's besides gnome and KDE. I know what LTS is, it's just odd that you guys haven't updated pop_os for over a year, and the last time I used an OS that did the same thing, Solus, the whole project went to shit. I'm on endeavourOS now, but I've been keeping an eye on the progress of cosmic hoping to see an updated version of pop because I genuinely love the style and look of the OS. If you're updating packages and keeping up to date on as many packages as possible then I definitely retract my original post.
