  • Call from a burner phone and give an anonymous report. Even then, if you have the slightest connection with the victim, you will be questioned, and you should shut the fuck up.

I mean idk how the "anonymous call" and the "shut the fuck up" helps if its your bf/gf or parent or child, that went missing. I you're gonna look very bad to a jury when they hear that you weren't on any record of having filed a missing person report like very early on, or if you refuse to cooperate with police. I mean this isn't like you just robbed a store or something, in which case the jury will probably understand why you don't wanna talk, but like... in this scenario, this is someone close to you that went missing, every jury is gonna have a biased opinion of you for non-cooperation.

Not to mention, the early someone is found, the better chance they are alive.

  • Yea but like how do you know what the cops are thinking. They could assume its a "self-report" if they can't find any suspects. I watched a documentary where the boyfriend was immediately their #1 suspect, but thankfully they later found evidence that someone else did it, and that he wasn't involved with his girlfriend's disappearance. That could've turn out poorly if the cops were being dicks.

  • No Stupid Questions @lemmy.world

People often say "Don't talk to the police", but what if a friend, neighbor, or a loved one gets kidnapped and you want to help the victim?

  • The cringiest thing is when the narrator overanalyze every movement and portary the body language of the criminal as "telltale signs of guilt", and if the suspect is innocent (some videos also include arrests of innocent people), the narrator immediately say the body posture are "telltale signs of being innocent". Lmao wtf. Y'all read the entire story before making the documentary, hindsight 20/20.

  • POV: When you're the socially awkward kid in school during the mid/late-2010s and you don't have a smartphone to be in group chats, so nobody wanna talk to you since they view you as "the loser who doesn't even have a phone"

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

Is it just me, or does crime documentaries have a biased "pro-cop" vibe to it?

  • "Feds"

    checks Wikipedia page for Spain

    Government: "Unitary parliamentary constitutional monarchy"

    🧐

    (Sorry for nitpicking lol 😅)

    But serious tho:

I kinda hate these weird associations. Its like arresting people who wear glasses because intellectual rebels wear glasses? (Pol Pot?)

Like can't someone just use a phone in peace? Most Pixel users don't even use Graphene OS.

Hey you know what, drug dealers drink water. Lets arrest people who drink water!

  • Lol haven't used the app for like at least 7 years? Maybe even 10 years. Haven't used the app as soon as I learned what an adblocker is, using uBlock Origin on Firefox.

I don't "subscribe" to anyone either, I just keep a list of everyone who I wanna watch and check everyone channel like once every 3 days. Takes like 3 minutes to go through the list of like around 20 channels. No accounts, all done over a no-log VPN to a privacy-friendly country.

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

If you suddenly get abducted when you're outside (with zero witnesses), how long would it take before someone realize it and reports you missing?

    Showerthoughts @lemmy.world

We are living in the Pre-"Drone 9/11" era.

  • The same reason you never hear from what happens inside abusive households until someone from within speaks up (aka: a "defector")

Edit: As for the follow up questions:

Imagine you live in the "hood" where the authorities doesn't do shit, and you see someone who's part of a gang abuse their child, are you gonna go confront them at the risk of getting your whole family shot to death? That's what MAD is like on the world stage. North Korea has China as an ally, don't forget about that.

  • I remember waking up like the morning after election day in 2016 and was shocked why a competent woman lost against some bussinessman who was never in politics (this was way before I fully understood politics), I was rooting for Hillary to become the first woman president, I was already feeling very egalitarian at the time, and also because she's a Democrat. Also because I immigrated to the US, so I naturally root for the more pro-immigration candidate. So yea I heard the news that Hillary lost despite having more votes, thats around the time I learned about the electoral college and that felt like bullshit. Luckily, I had derivative citizenship at the time, so I didn't really think too deep.

But now this 2nd term is honestly terrifying. both the 2020 and 2024 election nights was just filled with dread, and now that fear has become a reality, doesn't feel remotely to the first term.

Anyways, now my brain is so scrambled like an egg. Idk wtf is life anymore. Kinda having an "identity crisis" about my nationality/citizenship because that thought of potentially being deported is constantly lingering on the back of my mind ever since 2024 the morning following election night after the results were announced. I mean if I lose my citizenship, I'm gonna look so silly for ever refering to myself as an "American". That's like saying you're part of the family, then your parents removes you from the will.

Oh yea I have no other citizenship. My previous country does no do dual citizenship, and its a dictatorship. Funny how I'm running from one dictatorship right into another. 🙃

Depression definitely does not mix well with political instability/autocratization.

  • Splinternet:

    Europe: Euro-Schengen-Net

    China: People's Liberated Networks (人民解放网)

USA: "One Nation Under God" Net / Liberty Net

Russia: "Glory to the Motherland" Net?

Also maybe mind control. Btw I love the leader. Please tread on me! Totally not being mindcontrolled. /s (we're so fucked when they start inserting chips into babies brains)

  • In the analogy, not that different. Maybe flawed analogy. But humans aren't a exactly a perfect input/output machine, and humans don't have just one "temperature sensor". The official news isn't the only source of information, your problems in daily life such as:

your low wages, bad healthcare, rising cost of food, inflation, water supply being unclean, crime, police brutality, etc...

Propaganda and indoctrination can't erase every the terrible truths of life, it can help whitewash it, but unless you have the absolute mind control that I was talking about where you literally "hack" the brain, there will still be some dissenters. Statistically, there are always dissenters because not everyone will think alike. But with absolute mind control, compliance would be 100%.

  • That's manipulation.

Using a thermostat and central heating/cooling system as an example. So you have this thermostat that has its controls locked by a password.

Manipulation is placing a hot/cold object to the temperature sensor in order to trick it into commanding an increase/decrease in temperature.

"Mind Control" would be hacking straight into the thermostat's software/firmware and directly using its ability to change the temperature.

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

Do you think mind control technology would be possible? How long do you think it would take to be invented? (propaganda and indoctrination does not count, I mean actual mind control)

  • I mean this comment is not intended to say neither "never use violence" or "assassinate your politicians immediately"

I think the internet should be used as recruitment for peaceful methods only, but, if hypothetically when you meet up in person and decide that you want to "escalate"... well... do that in a secret basement somewhere safe, not online where any plans could be easily intercepted and easier for governments to manipulate.

I mean, for legal purposes, I'm not gonna overtly advocate violence in a serious, non-joke way, but I mean, if you decide to use force, then that's you decision, I can't tell you how to plan your actions 😉

As US President John F. Kennedy once said: "Those who make peaceful revolutions impossible, make violent revolution inevitable"

TLDR: Online forums are exactly what you described, a place to vent your frustrations. If you actually want to plan a revolt, do that IRL.
