  • Splinternet:

    Europe: Euro-Schengen-Net

    China: People's Liberated Networks (人民解放网)

USA: "One Nation Under God" Net / Liberty Net

Russia: "Glory to the Motherland" Net?

Also maybe mind control. Btw I love the leader. Please tread on me! Totally not being mindcontrolled. /s (we're so fucked when they start inserting chips into babies brains)

  • In the analogy, not that different. Maybe flawed analogy. But humans aren't a exactly a perfect input/output machine, and humans don't have just one "temperature sensor". The official news isn't the only source of information, your problems in daily life such as:

your low wages, bad healthcare, rising cost of food, inflation, water supply being unclean, crime, police brutality, etc...

Propaganda and indoctrination can't erase every the terrible truths of life, it can help whitewash it, but unless you have the absolute mind control that I was talking about where you literally "hack" the brain, there will still be some dissenters. Statistically, there are always dissenters because not everyone will think alike. But with absolute mind control, compliance would be 100%.

  • That's manipulation.

Using a thermostat and central heating/cooling system as an example. So you have this thermostat that has its controls locked by a password.

Manipulation is placing a hot/cold object to the temperature sensor in order to trick it into commanding an increase/decrease in temperature.

"Mind Control" would be hacking straight into the thermostat's software/firmware and directly using its ability to change the temperature.

  • I mean this comment is not intended to say neither "never use violence" or "assassinate your politicians immediately"

I think the internet should be used as recruitment for peaceful methods only, but, if hypothetically when you meet up in person and decide that you want to "escalate"... well... do that in a secret basement somewhere safe, not online where any plans could be easily intercepted and easier for governments to manipulate.

I mean, for legal purposes, I'm not gonna overtly advocate violence in a serious, non-joke way, but I mean, if you decide to use force, then that's you decision, I can't tell you how to plan your actions 😉

As US President John F. Kennedy once said: "Those who make peaceful revolutions impossible, make violent revolution inevitable"

TLDR: Online forums are exactly what you described, a place to vent your frustrations. If you actually want to plan a revolt, do that IRL.

  • I remember used to live in a house very close to McDonalds. We'd just walk there and open up a laptop (very cheap one) outside to use their free wifi. No money for internet lmfao.

Thinking about it makes me sad about the inequality in the world.

  • I don't block users, I have a "firewall" on my brain (metaphorically speaking). I over analyze every comment, its kinda like a "spot the bot" mini-game.

I estimate there are like 1/3 bots especially on very heated political memes on the front page. I'm automatically just blocking out the "voting is useless, don't vote" sentinment, very unproductive. Also idk wtf is with the "don't protest, revolt now, kill [insert name of politician] right now", like why the f would you say that on the open internet where there are government automatic data scrapers archiving all this for evidence? (Remember you can get extradited for making threats) Like jokes sure thing, but don't be that explicit lol. Fed-posting is so common lol.

The less political, the less "bot-like" it feels.

I get what you mean, that's why I always overthink every comment and scan for like everyone's profile.

    Hey... Wait a minute...

GET DOWN, JOHN CONNOR. THE OP IS A TERMINATOR /j

  • To be fair, you have to have a very high amount of beans in order to understand Lemmy and Fediverse. The memes are extremely subtle, and without a digital grasp of software engineering, most of the code will go over a typical Fedi-user's head. There's also Lemming's anti-fascist outlook, which is definitely woven by its leftist characterization. Its community draws heavily from Leftist Literature. Leftists understsnd this stuff; they have the emotional capacity to truely appeciate the depth of these memes, to realize this isn't just memey- it represents the shared humanity of all (almost all) Fedi-users. As a consequence, those who dislike the Fediverse truely ARE lazy bastards that can't do 5 minutes of duckduckgo'ing to read a wikipedia page explaining how this shit works- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in the fediverse's egalitarian catchphrase "Eat The Rich" which itself is a cryptic reference to Jean-Jacques Rousseau's French phrase, which translates to: "When the people shall have nothing more to eat, they will eat the rich". I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those fascists and "centrist" right-wing-sympathizer dipshits scratching their heads in confusion as the genius of our decentralized leadership reveals on the open source code on their computer monitors. What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have a ACAB tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the rebel's eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 EQ points of my own (preferably higher) beforehand.

  • Chinese culture is like you pretend to be very nice to other people, but the abuse is within the family.

Like the 红包 (red packets) for Lunar New Year is so... wild.

Like so you give your friend's kids $50 and their parents give your kids $50 then pretend like this is an actual gift, but then when they go home, the parents are like: "给我帮你保管" (Let me help you safeguard it)

Like... what is the point of the red packets then? Money gets shuffled but it just end up in the same people's hands.

I mean at least that's how my parents did it, I think my aunt's more Americanized family actually let their kids buy stuff?

I went to my cousin's house once (not willingly btw) and their family arrived in the US earlier than mine, so they cousins were born on US soil (as opposed to me who is first-gen immigrant), their father (my uncle) was from Hong Kong, so basically very western-minded.

They had an entire game system (Nintendo Wii something) in their house, I never had a game system lol, I was so jealous. Tbf they are slightly richer (like "middle class" rich), but even later on when my parents got more disposable income (like teenage years), I never got any games, or toys.

Like the vibes I was getting was that their household was still very strict, but not they actually get to have fun sometimes.

I think its this "filial piety" thing that is fucking toxic as hell.

I guess I see this with politics as well. I mean on the surface you never see Xi acting like the buffoons in the US-Republican party (I mean y'all know those crazy trump tweets and thinnly veiled racism, that sort of crazy stuff). The CCP might not outright do crazy shit like that, they do put up this act that make them look good, but deep down, they are both the same. In this analogy, the country is like the family, the civillians are like the children, children gets yelled at or even beaten (police harassing dissidents), but then the parents (the CCP) talks to everyone else (other countries) like everything is fine.

    Family, Country, these patterns repeat.

I mean on the other hand, the US is like that conservative man in the suburb that open-carries a gun everywhere (the 18 aircraft carriers and hundreds of military bases world wide) and sees everyone as a threat ("inverventions" in other countries)

Seems like culture and politics are so intertwined.

(I feel like I'm rambling... idk if this wall of text even makes sense)

  • Not sure if this is relevent, but I just wanna share my story.

My mom wants me dead because I have depression.

Not schizophrenia, not sociopathy/psychopathy, just being a little more sad than "normal".

The reasoning? "Because you wouldn't be able to enjoy life anyways, and your life is meaning less", threatning to leave me out of the will because "you can just get welfare from the government", despite me helping her with a lot of her stuff like bussiness licenses, filing taxes, translation (they are first-gen immigrants), etc. Like wtf is this concept of leaving someone with nothing when they have been so helpful throughout your life, just because "you have depression and you are no longer useful to society". Then put obstacles in me getting antidepresdants because "you can't be relying on meds for the rest of your life, just go outside" bitch wtf? Go outside to the ICE agents swarming the streets?

    (I'm Chinese-American)

I mean at lesst I'm not dead yet, so I probably don't deserve to complain too much, some people have it worse than me, I mean this person in the article literally got murdered. Tbh there were moments when I was a teen that I thought my mom was gonna stab me when I sleep. The fact I'm even alive is a miracle.

This toxic culture is why I never want to return to PRC, not to mention, the CCP problem.

But... now... the USA is also on fire becauses... I mean... you know... current events...

    Life is going great! 🫠

Can't complain! (literally can't complain else you get arrested)
