  • Is it 100 a month? I thought it was 100 total, no specified time frame. It's intended as a trial period not a free tier.

  • ACT campaigned on removing all building regulations, abolishing the human rights commission, abolishing the climate change commission/zero carbon act/etc, and allowing unrestricted overseas ownership of NZ for investors in OECD countries (except residential property), among other things.

Here is the list of party policies for the 2023 election.

Act has always been the party of selling out our country and our planet for money.

  • Ah interesting, I didn't realise Apple Music was available on Android.

For the life of me I cannot find an Apple Music website that lets you buy and download songs. I keep getting directed to download iTunes.

  • From the article:

The RMS Niagara's journey to Canada was cut short when it was sunk by mines laid by the German naval cruiser the Orion in the Hauraki Gulf - the first act of war against New Zealand by Nazi Germany.

In case you were wondering, from wikipedia:

Niagara's only apparent fatality was her ship's cat, a five-year-old grey and white long-haired tom called Aussie. His mother had been Niagara's cat before him, his father was a Persian in Vancouver and Aussie was born at Suva. Aussie was put in one of the lifeboats when Niagara was being abandoned, but he jumped back aboard ship. A few days later, residents of Horahora, Whangarei claimed that a cat answering Aussie's description came ashore on a piece of driftwood, and that one of them had taken him in, but the cat escaped and had not been seen since.

But yes, we should probably do the survey. But we still need to somehow pay for the pre-emtive tax cuts so it's unlikely to happen under this government.

  • That is insane. They have always been insane but I can't believe this was written down and publicly published.

  • So the billionaire that bought our biggest media company may end up with all of them. Perfect.

  • I know Apple has a music store. But if I use Android and Linux, how do I access it?

  • My favourite thing about Qobuz is they have a store where you pay money and they give you audio files, like in the old days. So you can pay for your music then keep it without an ongoing subscription.

  • AI scrapers are a massive issue for Lemmy instances. I'm gonna try some things in this article because there are enough of them identifying themselves with user agents that I didn't even think of the ones lying about it.

I guess a bonus (?) is that with 1000 Lemmy instances, the bots get the Lemmy content 1000 times so our input has 1000 times the weighting of reddit.

  • Reading through Geologic time scale, it defines an age as equivalent to a chronostratigraphic stage, which it says are normally millions of years. But you're right, interestingly the current Meghalayan age only started 4,200 years ago.

It seems all the recent ages are only a few thousand years each (until 2018 the last 10,000 or so were one age, but this was split in three in 2018).

After all that reading I still didn't really understand how they decided that this was a new age.

But anyway, I agree there isn't going to be any difference between 2,000 and 4,000 years so we might as well consider Pompeii fossilised even if not strictly true under the definition. I'm just surprised we consider anything within human history to be a previous geological age, but it seems we do.

  • Is Pompeii from a past geological age?

2000 years ago doesn't seem important on geological time scales.

  • Oh that's a good idea! We have some of those. I didn't think about that. I think that would be ok, thanks for the suggestion!

  • Sweet thanks. There aren't dimensions so was wondering.

It looks perfect so thanks for the suggestion!

  • Ah yip they still have them. Did you get the full size or the mini?

  • Thanks for the suggestion! Where did you get it from?

  • Well so far I don't wrap them at all. When I was a kid they were in a plastic bag but I'd prefer to avoid that.

  • I have a 4 year old starting school soon. Anyone got tips for a good lunch box?

I've never been too happy with the ones the other kids have. Having compartments is good but then it screws you over when you want to put a banana in.

I'm wondering if the answer is just a big open lunchbox with smaller containers inside?

I've been thinking about the discussion the other day about ice packs to keep things cool if you want to put in something that isn't going to like being warm, but wouldn't that attract condensation and make sandwiches all wet?

  • If you're using Nextcloud All In One then it's easy to enable it in the AIO settings.

If you're not, I suggest looking into it. It's the new officially recommended way of installing and it's been great.

Nextcloud has an export/import data function but at the time I did it I only had a few GB of data so not sure how well it scales.

  • Only when they enable it 😆. We are also here waiting with excitement but it's nice to know there is someone else that can be the guinea pig 😋

  • Thanks for the links. I read through both, I think I will read this book when I get a chance. I already dislike facebook so much that it will be hard to drop any lower on the scale, but it's good to reinforce why.
