  • One of my housemates has a brother printer and I was testing some stuff out on LMDE and noticed it was available to print to. No searching for it or driver to be installed or anything. I don’t actually need to print but that’s pretty cool.

People keep missing that I'm talking about a all-in-one, and not just a simple printer-only.

I never had a problem with the printing part of the all-in-one printer, but the scanning and faxing stuff required the Brother driver support, and that wad not natively supported, or were supposed to be supported but it didn't work well, or at all. There were issues with 32-bit versus 62-bit libraries, etc.

Took years to get to a point where the brother drivers would just install and everything would work right. And not everything ever worked right from native Linux.

  • In that case you should know that he’s repeatedly said that they’re going to invade Rafah regardless of any cease fire, it’s just a matter of time.

Last I heard they were already starting to do that.

  • Well, that’s a clear sign you haven’t seen Pacific Rim.

But, but..., I have..., multiple times.

And I saw the sequel movie, as well as the Netflix series.

Everything I saw fit into the world building/lore, and nothing pulled me out of the movie, with the one semi-exception of the sword scene.

You said you dislike it when you’re reminded you’re in a theatre.

No, I was stating that I hate being pulled out of the story. If I'm at home in the living room and the same thing happens, I hate that too.

Being reminded of where I am is a after side effect, and not the problem in and of itself. It's being pulled away from the story in the first place thats the problem.

    That's an important distinction.

  • Additionally I believe I was agreeing with you by pointing the fact out while choosing not to engage with the other poster as arguments like this indicate they are likely not worth engaging. Sorry for any confusion, I have problems communicating with others sometimes.

Apologies, I thought I was responding to @grue, didn't notice you were a third party.

I usually take allot of fire for some reason, so I don't always notice non-combatants in my field of fire. 😋

And just for the record, I know what a straw man is, but sincerely thank you for letting me know. 🙂

  • He will not be able to work effectively when he’s dead.

    Would anyone?

"Quick! Someone break out the Ouija Board! We have a bill that needs signing!". /s

Bernie Sanders is not the Golden Child. He is not irreplaceable and its absurd to pretend otherwise.

There are very few ethical politicians that exist today that really seem to care about people, vs. corporations.

We should cherish each and every one of them, they are vitally needed.

He's more golden than you want to see.

  • Is there another politician in their 80s (or even 70s) who you think is an outlier in the same ways that Bernie is? Because I’m struggling to think of one.

Well, I've been only talking about Bernie, and not others.

Having said that, any professional politician who is as cognizant as Bernie, and could do the job, should be allowed to do the job. Not arbitrarily gated.

And please, don't take my stance as one that does not want new and 'fresh blood' in Congress, in fact I would really love to see many more younger people run for office.

My point is just to be fair when judging someone capable of doing their job, not arbitrarily.

Bernie can do the job, and if you believe in his politics, it would be really good for the country if he did.

  • There are legally agreed upon cognitive tests that can be given.

Name one organization that would be impervious to partisan capture if it was charged with grading the fitness of future potential federal election candidates.

Well, first, IANAL, so expecting a list from me is going to be problematic. I know they exist, because I've seen/read other lawyers talk about them before, as well as medical personnel.

They are used by the medical profession often as well, for Alzheimer testing and such. So to answer your question I would choose a medical organization of some renown, backed by lawyers who sign-off on the test. Even in today's environment, neutral/balanced parties exist, especially in the legal/medical fields.

This article, which talks about President Biden not getting tested, mentions this...

The Montreal Cognitive Assessment — the test taken by Trump in 2018 — is the most sensitive test available for detecting Alzheimer's disease, the MoCA Cognition website claims. It consists of 30 questions that include (in Version 8.2 of the test below) labeling drawings of animals and drawing a specific time on a clock

It seems like a standard test used by the medical profession for quite a while (IANAD as well).

  • I don’t want to ask any kind of LLM anything at all. Ugh.

While my default/off-the-cuff answer would be the same as yours, if I travelled fifty years into the future, and had a 'discussion' with a LLM that was specific to the topic being discussed, I would probably be ok with that (as long as it was programmed properly and trained on good (not cheapest) data).

Time will tell, but the future will pimp slap you if you try to avoid it. Best to surf it the best you can.

  • The hypocrisy is ridiculous “no no it’s ok cause it’s the guy I like!”

Nobody can stop you from going straight to 'Killing the Messenger' mode, but it doesn't really solve any problems doing so.

Try seeing better. Not everything is hypocrisy.

  • With some notable exceptions like Bernie

My point exactly. Any who are cognizant, should stick around to help out the younger members rising up through the ranks. They're not there to replace them, but also they should not be thrown away just because of a biological counter, wasting their decades of knowledge and wisdom.

  • Guy who had a heart attack while back when he was a spry young seventy-eight is going to be fighting fit for another six years? Doubtful.

He could be a brain in a jar Futurama style and still be able to work effectively.

Its the cognizant abilities that are needed, he's not "Running the Mile" around the Congress building.

  • Having said that, everyone running for office should have to take a cognitive test.

    Ah, yes, literacy tests ...

    Looking at the link ...

How Literacy Tests Were Used To Stop Black Americans From

I could definitely see how that would test someone's mental capability for running a political office. /s

... were a great idea that we should definitely bring back! /s

Cognitive and literary tests are not the same thing.
