  • From the article...

Over the years, Tesla has periodically offered cheaper vehicles with shorter ranges, and rather than building a new vehicle with a smaller battery pack, the automaker has decided to instead use the same battery packs capable of more range and software-locked the range.

I can see business wise why they would want to do that, but P.R. and public perception wise, that's one step forward, two steps back.

  • And Bernie alone isn’t deciding legislation, no matter how great or smart he is.

It’s about the movement, not him

You realize one single Senator can introduce a bill, right?

And that one Senator, if they're knowledgeable and experienced, has a better chance of getting that billed introduced, and actually voted on, than one who is not.

  • I remember my reaction to the sword moment in Pacific Rim the first time I saw it: This is dumb and I don’t care. I was taken out of the story

Could you elaborate about what was it about that pulled you out of the story?

In my case I had the same reaction you described, but for me it was like "wait the other pilot wouldn't know that thing exists?", and I got pulled out of the story for a moment. It did affect my enjoyment of watching the movie.

If I was the editor for the movie I wouldn't have included that. And if they wanted some other deus ex machina moment to surprise the audience with, I would have tried something else.

With theatre, they give you an intermission so you don’t pee on the seats.

Um, that wouldn't pull you out of the story, as at that point the story is paused, for you to go to the restroom.

To be pulled out of the story, you have to be watching the story, and then see something completely wrong with the storytelling, while watching it.

That used to be the case with movies, too.

I remember them, as well as the music in the beginning before the movie actually starts to get everyone in their seats.

Star Trek The Motion Picture was one of the last movies I've seen in the theater that had that.

And even today if you watch the movie Ben-Hur on your TV you'll see a lot of times they play the bathroom intermission break halfway through the movie.

  • Okay, I guess I see that, but allowing that the storyteller fucked it up, some failures of storytelling stick in my craw worse than others.

Me as well. For some you just smirk negatively at, others you cringe at, and others you get pissed off at.

But all of those can pull you out of the story, and back into the movie theater. They're all bad, just in varying degrees.

  • That’s what I mean, he’s spent his whole life saying it’s not about him, it’s about the movement. He needs to let a younger progressive take his spot so that person gets “the experience” and run for president.

Both can be true. He can continue to run, while looking for a successor. He sounds more than capable to be able to continue.

As long as he's capable, we all need his wisdom and his ethics and his experience.

There's plenty of time for younger people to come up through the ranks and replace them.

  • Last week, Senator Joann Ginal, a Fort Collins Democrat, proposed an amendment on the Senate floor permitting the use of rent-setting algorithms, provided that the data utilized was publicly available. This version of the bill subsequently passed in the Senate.

People who live in the state should call her office and register their displeasure with her vote.

  • It doesn’t matter because if Israel doesn’t accept it, the war will continue as if it didn’t happen.

Well, I didn't say it would be effective or not, just that it matters in the moment, it's a focal point.

That's what I meant by "Wheels within Wheels". The political chess game that is played after each move. It's not something to be simply ignored.

  • I hate it when storytelling pulls me out of the story, and back into the theater.

    It’s a balancing act though, isn’t it?

Don't mean to be argumentative, but generally speaking? No, it's not.

Either you're in the story, and enjoying it, or you're in the theater, noticing the seat you're sitting in, and not paying so much attention to the movie being shown you.

A good Storyteller keeps you in the story, and doesn't let you escape until the end credits.

  • Since that article says virtually nothing… does Israel accept that proposal?

My understanding is this just happened, and Israel has not had a chance to respond to it yet.

    Otherwise, this hardly matters.

Actually, it matters a lot, as Israel was just about to invade Rafah.

  • But no one, absolutely no one, is as sharp at 82 as they were at 62.

My dad was, did great until early 90's, and then at 97 he tanked within 3 months and passed.

You never know, nothing is 'absolutely', especially on a case-by-case basis with human beings.

In either case, cognitive test, regardless of the age, will catch situations where that person should not be in a position of governance, because of lack of mental capacity to do the job.

It's not the age, it's the mileage.

Bernie has spent so long building a movement larger than himself, it’s a shame he hasn’t put up a successor yet.

Agree, but I had thought AOC was going to be that at some point. ?

  • dispute revolved around an adopted amendment

Does the article say which state senator submitted the amendment?

If you live in the state, you should be sure to know, or find out, and consider the next time you vote.
