  • People such as yourself are the reason I'm here, wouldn't have known about the Lemmyverse without all you folks spreading the good word.

I'm paying it forward where I can, but I think I understand many folks frustration with the sheer indifference and laziness of the general public regarding these major issues.

  • This is the correct method, my tiny corner of the internet with my friends playing games and chatting in ways we enjoy.

We use the internet for us, if I have to cut a huge swath of the internet in order to maintain my healthy space, I will.

  • I was explaining today to a close friend that I (anecdotally) have noticed a significant reduction in battery usage on my GOS pix 6.

The whole device feels snappier, more responsive, and I can certainly attest that I got 9+hrs out of this thing at max brightness playing terraria. Can't say the same for stock rom in the same conditions, while I don't have the technical knowledge to prove it (and I'm happy to be proven wrong) I'm convinced the majority of my stock rom Pix's battery is eaten by proprietary software phoning home.

With that said, unless I go out of my way to disable certain privacy aspects of this phone or implement spmit-tunneling on the VPN it's set to go through, unfortunately many sites/apps break. For these instances I generally use the stock pix. (Eg. Gov services/KDE Connect).

  • Sorry for the delayed response here, however I primarily use a proton address, and I currently have a redirect in place for my Gmail to the proton. My intention is to close the Gmail all together, however that's not yet possible as I will likely miss important emails in the process, I am (as discovering) updating my email addresses for each service as it becomes known so as to avoid such occurrences.

As it stands, I have GPS on another user profile to add to the security provided by GOS sandboxing, not that I don't trust GOS devs, I don't trust GPS not to sneak in somehow.

I hope this answers your query, do dm me if need be for further explanation.

Edit: I cannot speak further as to email clients, as I have yet to perform further experimentation. I do intend to get to it soon, though if you beat me to it, do message me to let me know how you went and what you'd do differently.

Edit pt2.: I have checked, both my pix6's were from a close batch and manufactured the same month, I suspect due to this battery degradation is not applicable.

  • It's given me a huge perspective shift on why the 7-hour war was only 7-hours.

The combine in their prime before Dr Freeman's crowbar entered the scene, is a terrifying machination.

My appreciation for Alyx Vance has also skyrocketed, badass woman, through and through.

Edit: forgot to mention A FUCKING VIDEOGAME LETS ME PUSH THE DAMN ELEVATOR BUTTON

  • I'm not even finished Alyx, I started again when I got my new build done and I went from an 8/10-10/10 and I haven't even finished it yet. I played HL2VR mod immediately prior and it has completely changed the way I view the whole series.

  • Yep, having stumbled around and learned many of this the hard way (guided by a knowledgeable friend) it was a big headache, however it's stuff I'm not going to forget anytime soon.

  • I was going to do this, but ended up happening across the Orange Pi 5 upon release and managed to get an order in.

I had it running Ubuntu 22.04LTS, but there were some OPi specific issues I just wasn't capable of troubleshooting myself at that stage, I've since switched it to 23.01 non LTS and is much better suited to me.

That said, even after discovering gnome extensions I still dont like gnome that much. I'm trying to get a better handle on CLI so I can abandon the desktop all together later.

But yeah, having a whole device just for experimenting with has been huge, very much helps keep me from distractions, I usually will just swing my monitor towards my bed and play twitch while I mess around.

Edit: it's also saved me the issue of adding to my already chaotic daily filesystem, all my projects are on GitHub, I've gotten more proficient at getting a distro going, the urge to hop around a few more is really growing now.

  • I've been powerlifting (just returning now after a major injury not caused by PL) for 5 years. Had you asked me 6 years ago if I'd ever see myself as a gym rat I'd have told you to fuck off.

And yet here I am, returning to the gym, having breakdowns having missed it so much and pulling far heavier weights off the floor after the first few returning sessions than I did for months in the beginning.

The body remembers, and I'm so here for it. My sleep has improved, my strength is returning quickly and steadily and I FEEL GREAT (and sore) after every session.

Powerlifting changed my life, gave me something to aim for and work at consistently, consistency is absolutely pivotal and has been the cause of immense gains that I was barely able to perceive due to the incremental nature of lifting.

It is the same energy I use to pull a heavy deadlift that I use to deal with the stress of life, I know exactly what I'm capable of and knowing that I can lift removedly heavy things at a mediocre effort really helps me mentally and emotionally in a crisis. Needless to say, prior to this injury I never hired removalists before.

  • I'm on a similar wavelength, however I've noticed my "couple nightly drinks" over time has turned (at times) into half a bottle.

Please do a better job managing your intake than I have, it was a hard look in the mirror that night.

  • Were it not so extremely expensive in my currency I'd already be using one. I just spent slightly more than that for a rig that will last me close to 10years. I really want to see more competition in the handheld space, near future is looking promising, but its not there yet.
