  • Agreed, my wealth is building, but I'm not well off. I don't want to be viewed as struggling, though in some respects I still am, and likely will be for some time. That said, I've spent the past 10 or so years really focussing on comfort above all else. I've got all the tools/toys I need for my hobbies, a stable and livable income (hard to come by these days) as well as growing savings and investments.

While I'm not well off, the only showy parts of my life are my vehicles. Everything is relatively low-key or intended purely for me, such as gaming rig, 3d printer etc.

As a former (and possibly returning) shiftworker, having multiple forms of transport is near compulsory due to my location and nearby infrastructure shortfalls.

Where convenient I will usually ride my skateboard (eskate) for shorter trips weather permitting, whereas for pleasure I have a motorcycle, and finally for inclement weather or when I need to carry items, the car.

Apart from these things, the only thing i could want for is to not be renting, I'm glad that is almost the only and largest difficulty currently facing me. I do not envy those less fortunate than I.

  • The duality of humanity, smart enough to fix almost any challenge we're faced with, but lazy af unless properly motivated.

Having just spent a significant amount of time recovering from a nerve injury, I can attest most wouldn't make near full recovery (as I have), or in as short a time, primarily due to a lack of personal drive and motivation.

This is clear and present in the fact that, the majority of folks allowed to have kids, drive cars and get on a soapbox online to share their "opinion" (useless regurgitated garbage they saw on TikTok) are either not educated enough, or do not care enough to put their effort into something fulfilling and worthwhile, because that takes EFFORT. Something so few seem willing to put in these days, it's saddening. Convenience over security and safety I guess.

I'll sit here with my popcorn and happily watch the human race sleepwalk into dystopia, we're already so close! That's not to say I don't make a significant effort, just that my expectations are so low at this point I'm not sure it'll make a difference.

  • My smarttube is glacially slow, but it's the TV hardware that can't keep pace, I assure you.

I've also noticed when the stream is cut by YT, smarttube will almost always manage to get it back, very rarely do I have to actively pick up the remote to fix it.

When my TV plays nice, it's a perfect YT replacement, and I highly recommend it.

  • Yeah my current PC is only just starting to hit it's (gaming) limits now, still plenty strong for literally any other purpose, but yeah no I'll just build a whole new PC just so I can be forced into an OS I don't want when they stop supporting the one I'm on. It's a fucking joke, I hate this ride and I want off of it.

I'm only just starting to get comfortable on Linux, I had a crack many years ago but switched back promptly to windows. Once I'm more comfortable and there's better gaming support I'll make the switch, it's just not quite there yet for me.

I've been distro hopping a bit with my orange pi, I'm glad I didn't dual-boot my desktop as I'm already struggling for storage with these 100+gb games being the norm now. I don't think my steam library folders have seen more transfers between HDD and SSD ever.

With that said though, I did just order all the parts for a new PC, but that was only because of some good deals and am able to bring a bunch across. I've got a fair few parts that are still very new or low mileage, or were overspecced for the future and still have many years of viability left.

  • I played at launch, and there were game-breaking issues every 15-30min for me, constant crashes etc. I rage uninstalled for the first time in years, due to a bug in the smasher fight the game would crash in the same spot every time, as such, I couldn't actually finish the game.

I revisited it after a broken leg earlier this year and it's come a long way, but yeah I really wish it had spent far more time in the oven as well as cutting out older hardware. The time they spent trying to get it to run somewhat stable on old hardware could've been far better used in QA and bugfixes.

I'm 7 characters deep, and I've stepped back to play other games (BG3 came along at the perfect time) while I wait for the DLC later this month. I foresee another few hundred hours of my life being sacrificed, if only so I can try my luck against maxtac.

  • Yeah we pay an 80% markup just for existing and I hate it, but the gaming industry has been dropping quality while simultaneously increasing prices for some time now.

The only games in the last couple years I've paid full price for are CP2077, BG3 and Battlebit. Everything else is bought during the sales, usually at a steep discount, where many of these games should be priced by default.

Fuckin corpo dogs, they'll ruin anything and everything they can to make a buck.
