  • We're also expected to have similar fuel loads and fire risk to 2019-20 bushfire season.

3 La Ninas in a row feels good while you're in it, but the El Nino that follows this year will be a disaster, for our country and the atmosphere.

  • Cheers for the in depth response! I can't decide if you've made my decision making harder, easier, or some combination of both.

In the rare occasions UBO/Adguard let one slip through, I find 99% of the time a refresh solves it (different ad it does pick up maybe?) Failing that, I just wait for an update and that process has yet to fail me.

I'll have a look around, my server is not yet entered into service, but I am looking to run Pihole network wide, I have yet to decide on a DNS for it, but I will certainly give NextDNS a looksee as a starting point to see if it fits my use case.

  • I think you've done readers a service, I checked your comment before even looking at the article, as I've seen so many garbage articles posted here (no hate Lemmings, it's not your garbage writing, it's bad journos doing bad journo stuff).

I appreciate you fam, and those complaining of ads need (on Android at least) to use an ad blocking DNS (I use Adguard DNS) in conjunction with an actual ad blocker.

I find it laughable that there are people out there in 2023 not using some form of ad blocking.

  • SOT for stock OS from last charge was 4h52m, SOT for GOS was 4h36m.

Battery curve shows sharper dips on the stock rom, though at times it's usage (for work due to needing maps) is understandable.

Battery curve on the GOS has more gentle dips, but more consistently. Surprisingly at the same percentage of charge, the projected 0% is different by close to an hour between the two.

I have been using the stock ROM for a couple years now, whereas the GOS ROM has only been in use 6-8mths. So I expect there's a level of learning occuring over time based on usage, as well as a likely (small) loss in capacity for the older handset.

I do often find both are surprisingly accurate at predicting with a reasonable accuracy when to expect to charge.

  • Great to hear! I still have one with stock ROM and I like it less and less every day. Slowly getting everything across to the GOS one.

I too have noticed significant difference in battery life between the two, stock ROM always runs out first, even if at idle.

The only adaptive feature I want is for charging, I want to be able to have the phone stop charging at a percentage determined either by me or the device for the battery health. To expand, my tablet has a battery protection feature, where if it is left plugged in, holds the battery between 40-60% for long times on the charger. The device draws until it's down to 40% and then charges back up to 60%.

I only ever charge my pixels to 80%+/- and their batteries are still going an entire day with reasonably heavy use inc. Gps

I hope to see GOS continue to do great things.

  • Not from steam no, used yes.

I'd consider a second hand one if I found a good deal, plus a long drive to collect.

ROG Ally for example I can go down to the hifi store and they have them. I'm waiting to see also how the software support evolves.

  • I appreciate your comment and sentiment, could you come over and inform my country on how to build a city? As it stands, it's more convenient, planned for, and infrastructure installed for cars. The only thing keeping me from using one of my smaller transportation methods to commute, remains safety. Safety of myself, but also safety of my ride.

I certainly don't have enough good ideas to remedy this, but I sure hope someone else does.

  • I agree, good luck getting it past even the most progressive government in my country. Nobody wants to pay their fair share of tax (and votes accordingly) and yet all expect the investment in infrastructure that comes with it.

    Shocking, to say the least.
