  • While this is true, I probably should have added additional context as it may be lobbying but differ in the way lobbying is currently done.

It would preferably be someone currently working in acedemia as well as holding an office (state or federally) subject to a code of ethics etc. With prerequisites within the field of question.

Now each judge or policy maker having their own expertise would be ideal, it's not really practical/feasible at this time. It's not necessarily lobbying in it's entirety that's an issue more so how it's done currently.

One could argue any person with any statement to a judge or policy maker (I'm context) classifies as lobbying since they are trying to sway the decision in their way. So by definition there's not really a way around "lobbying" but we can mitigate the (effectively) statement bribes we have screwing our system

  • Pretty much exactly this. It also makes watching adaptations pretty tough since books give descriptions of characters, then you male up an idea of what they look like and the adaptations just screw it up (usually).

The recall is amazing when you can remember a "scene" by "playing it out". I think it's usually more so just a skill people pickup when they read a ton and not super unique. I read an absurd amount when I was young due to being effectively blind and not prescribed glasses till puberty

  • I haven't really seen it mentioned here yet but policy makers and judge rulings should either have additional schooling in the area they are making the policy/ruling on OR have a mandatory specialist/professional input throughout the process. So many of these brain dead policies come from not even know what TF they are talking about.

I want proper understanding from these people before they agree or pass something because "it sounds good" from lobbying

  • IIRC we have 2 solutions 1 is what we currently use and the second is more or less the best but a tad expensive so we don't. (This is for the highly radioactive waste that has long decay and makes up about 1-3% of waste, the stuff we "worry" about)

The former is we mix the radioactive material with glass, ceramic, and concrete into large pieces and just leave em. Standing next to them you actually receive more radiation from the sun and they cannot be recovered into usable material because of how they are melted and mixed together.

The latter is more or less the same, but we dig, on site, an L shaped bore into the ground a long way into the earths crust where it can be stored indefinitely, is not recoverable, and can keep a site running for it's entire lifetime without filling the hole. You then fill in the hole at end of life and done. No harm to people, environment, or earth. Basically a DGR (Deep Geological Repository)

  • I have an Instagram, by which that means it's been abandoned but not deleted (was created by pressure from an ex anyway) Otherwise nah, I don't use any of them. They just don't really provide anything I want or care about.

  • You could do what I just did and get a horrible stomach bug that leaves you in bed for four days dreading the thought of food and barely able to suck down half a glass of water! -5/10 would recommend active effort to avoid.

RIP myself, silver lining though lmao

Edit: I did lose ~10lbs though likely a fair amount is water weight

  • Pretty sure it, along with some other items were donated to the Church and the church, having no real way to use such items gave them out to big donors. Other people got like, (also not scientology) vacuums, one big ol office printer worth 5k, and one of those leather couches you'd probably see in a grandparents house.

As far as I'm aware, none of those items (picture included) were related to the religion. I'm not a fan generally of religious stuff but it has nostalgia from when I was a kid and since it's just a picture and religion only plays into how it was obtained I saw no reason not to accept it

  • I'm a firm believer that "Next Saturday" refers to the upcoming one, however, I understand most people do not, therefore it's easiest to ask how many days, or the specific date. I.E. Saturday the 15th, Weekend of the 15th, in 12 days.

  • I have a picture from my parents that's apparently now worth 3k-ish they got it for donating to a church when I was real young. Though I don't follow that religion it's still a neat picture (does not depict anything religious, is actually SciFi)

  • I could see how lesser populated areas would become more viable since jobs can be distant, but everywhere else it would be effectively moot, yeah? For example, UBI of 1k for everyone, why would an apartment complex not just raise rent by 1k? The people could already afford what they were paying and now guaranteed have an extra 1k a month, so the price change is "net zero" to the consumer (in a twisted corporate view) and now rent is baseline 1k greater and the people gain nothing from this change in any reasonably populated area.

If this example is wrong in some way lemmy know!

  • So UBI is really just a call for more social programs provided by the government (local or otherwise) not supplemented funding that goes to companies/corporations and is an inherent accessible resource with no prequalifications other than (in the USA for example) having an SSN?

  • So in the end, it's not about UBI at all, it's about having social support programs that are not private companies/corporations funded by the government but supplied directly by the government? I.E. government housing paid by the "UBI tax system" that remains a stagnant amount based off the UBI number?

So UBI just amounts to more fair distribution of taxes and social support programs?

edit to clarify, these social programs are just inherently given with no pre-requirement from any person

  • I've always wondered this about UBI, so if anyone can please inform me that would be welcomed: If UBI is implemented, what stops companies, rent, etc. From using UBI income as a baseline to increase their costs due to the fact they know you always have certain minimum incomes? I feel like those cost increases completely negate any extra one would get from UBI

  • I just had a guy retire where I work and he never moved out of his parent's place. There is no age you should leave. If you're happy and they are happy then there's no issue.

Maybe you'll feel that desire to leave when you get into a LTR, usually the need for privacy/space is what drives people to seek their own living space. Until you feel that way (if ever) save up and enjoy spending the time with the people you care about.
