  • I've said this before, but I'll say it again. He is doing (some) good shit, Dems are just shit at PR.

The Union Busting was a bad look, all around. No one can dispute that. It left a (rightfully) bad taste in the mouths of the working class. The Biden Administration publicly showed that it does not support Labor Rights when push came to shove.

But, the Biden Administration did end up putting continuous pressure on the railroads to earn said paid sick days for the rail workers

No one is fucking talking about it though (I myself just learned about it a week ago), because again, Dems are fucking awful at PR. And it's going to hurt them in the election.

I'm starting to truly question whether or not it's on purpose that they're so quiet about certain stuff that they do, especially when it's to their own detriment.

  • Yeah, if I had it my way, I'd be voting for someone more in line with AOC or Bernie Sanders, but until a candidate like that takes the Primary, I'm left with Biden. Just because Biden isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination, doesn't mean it's worth it to take a vote from the Dems and by proxy give one to the Republicunts.

That being said, fuck the DNC is fucking terrible at marketing. I just found out like 3 days ago that rail workers have indeed been getting the sick days that they were asking for due to regular followup from the Biden Administration during negotiations. The strike and him being a Union buster was a huge (rightfully so) story, and a bad look all around, but fucking tell the public about your wins too, jfc. It's not that hard.

Also, his move to keep the Space Command in CO was pretty meaningful to a portion of the population (women and LGBTQ+ in the USSF), and it actively fucks over Tommy Tuberville in AL (who hates women and LGBTQ+ people).

Should we demand better? Yes. Do we deserve better? Also yes. But let's not pretend he's the worst candidate up there. Let's keep pushing for more actually Progressive politicians, but in the meantime, don't let perfection be the enemy of progress.

  • Cries in Texas (We have a depressingly low voter turnout)

Nah but for real, it's news like this that gives me hope. This was such a good headline to wake up to! I'm stoked for you guys in the North!

Turn this shit tf around! 🙌

  • I had hopes after the impeachment that he'd be permanently removed. Not high hopes, but hope was there.

Now that I know his PAC bought off the judge though, Id be surprised if he gets anything more than a fine and a finger wagging.

  • YES OMG GET FUCKED TUBERVILLE, YOU FUCKING PRICK!

I've said before I was terrified of the DoD capitulating to this fucking sorry excuse for a human being, but I'm glad to see his actions have had negative consequences for him specifically.

Ugh, even if this wasn't done to protect the younger generation of women joining the armed forces, I'll take it. It's one less location that they can be sent to (yes of course Maxwell exists, as well as Scott in MO and alllllllll the fucking bases in Texas and Florida, so it's a small win, but it IS a win)

  • Okay. I admit it. I grinned.

But in all seriousness, it is good to know that even in states with lesser consumer protection laws, purchasers will still be protected.

I love learning little random tidbits of knowledge like this!

  • I was wondering if this violated false advertising laws? I'm definitely nowhere near a Lawyer, so I can't begin to grasp the nuances of things like that but...

If someone buys the car under the pretense that it will drive 500 miles on one charge, and it consistently only makes it 350 miles, that's not a variable tolerance issue like +/-10% . It's a straight up "I sold you a falsehood" issue.

  • As an overweight child, I for some reason thought I was athletic enough to try acrobatics on my mattress.

    I was not.

My first attempt at a back tuck, I landed on my back and kneed myself right in the eye. My mother was super pissed because she knew teachers and shit were going to ask questions. I can still hear her cussing under her breath as she applied makeup to my eye before school 😂😂😂😂

  • Agreed and I love this quote. I've never heard it, but it's top notch. If everyone would get out of their own bubble, truly see other people and the struggles that they go through, and gain some perspective, then the world would be such a better place.

Instead, people legitimately fear leaving their own bubbles, gain a "fuck you I got my own shit to worry about" mentality, and close themselves off to so much about the world around them. Or, in my MAGA family's case, they think by leaving their legit small town (truly tiny, not Jason Aldean "tiny"), the world outside is a wasteland where everyone else is waiting to shank you, rob you, shoot you, make you speak Spanish (the horror!), and turn you gay. 🙄

  • Indeed. I was raised in a right wing bubble, and as a child/young teen I spouted off bullshit that makes me cringe and is a gut punch to this day.

It wasn't until I started thinking critically as a young adult and left home to see the world that I was like "Holy shit. We are fucked up."

And so now, whenever I see someone using their children who are too young to truly understand the implications of what they're saying, and are just spouting off hateful rhetoric to gain their parents approval - almost nothing fills me with as much disgust. I write off the parents as terrible people instantly. I haven't listened to him in a while, but I was a fan of "Big Green Tractor" when it was released. Never again though. Fuck him, his writers, his agents, and his producers.

And couching all these right wing ideals in a catchy, basic, palatable-to-the-masses country song and releasing it to the public is fucking insidious. It's normalizing the idea that if you disagree with authority or the government, you don't speak up: country boys will come after you. Just shut up and deal with the status quo. 🤢

And while he's normalizing the idea of staying silent to stay safe, Florida is trying to push that slavery was beneficial to black people 😮‍💨. Fuck this timeline.

  • And it's fucking false too. Even before the repeal of RvW, federal funding could not be used for abortion unless it was a risk of life to the mother, or due to rape/incest. That's it. That's how it was 10 years ago, that's how it is today. Tricare legally cannot cover abortions except for those circumstances.

Now, the military is currently allowing those of us unfortunate enough to be stationed in Florida or Texas or Missouri or Alabama or insert-red-state here, to go on non-chargeable leave and a portion of travel related expenses are covered. Not the procedure itself.

And fascist pricks like Tuberville and DeSantis are doing their best to claw just that much back. Because the cruelty is the point.

  • Agreed. I was here for the 2021 Snowpocalypse. Bruh, idk how it was in more rural or northern parts of Texas, but in San Antonio the amount of snow was laughable for shutting the major metropolitan area down like it did.

I was on call for my job and I had to go in three times, and other than under the overpasses where the snow melted and then froze, driving was a non-issue. And yet...businesses were shut down while we all suffered through the rolling blackouts.

My husband and I were lucky, we were getting 15 mins of electricity every hour or so. Other friends were getting 3-5 mins sporadically. I could at least boil our eggs to eat throughout the week.

And now with this heat wave, all over the place ERCOT is advising Texans to keep the thermostat at 80. And certain areas have gone through more rolling blackouts because the grid can't sustain the AC draw. I'm flabbergasted at this state.

  • Um. Yes. It fucking SUCKS to be a woman, LGBTQ+ + community member, or a minority here in Texas. Good luck if you're all 3.

This state is a steaming pile of shit and a blight on America. I wish it would secede, but only after the government offers refugee status to those of us who are sane and want to leave.

Then Texas can take its misogynistic, racist, bigoted, xenophobic self and go create its own country. And it can take Florida with it!

  • Have taxi cabs started embracing apps yet? The best thing about Uber/Lyft when they started was that you didn't have to make an actual phone call to a company and request a cab and then be told to wait ~30 mins for one to show up.

I say this as a partier who used cabs weekly for over a decade.

That being said, agreed on the hotel. I only use Airbnbs for group trips where we're all trying to stay together. If it's my husband and I, I'll rack up those Hilton Honors points while not needing to do anything pre-check out please (though we never leave the room gross. Trash is always left in the trashcans and the used towels are always in the bathroom specifically).
