Because when normal people with critical thinking skills see a rainbow in the back of a classroom, we don't even register it. It's not political to us at all. It's just a wall decoration. So why would we hone in on it? Most of us probably don't even "see" it.
Any sign of a rainbow at all is triggering to those who lack critical thinking skills. They latch onto it and start screaming about the LGBTQ+ agenda. And they spread it to their base to fill the hate tank and get them all riled up.
Meanwhile the rest of us are like "There was a rainbow on the wall...?"
Frederick Taylor did an exact study on this sort of thing for multiple manual tasks back in the late 1800s/early 1900s.
Of course, he also advocated for higher wages and shorter working hours for those who were capable of accomplishing more, but that part gets conveniently forgotten about 🤷♀️
No lie, that's actually my biggest fear. I'd have never moved to Texas if Uncle Sam didn't make me, and I have no idea how long the military will keep me stationed here.
It's one of those things that I have to tamp down on my anxiety brain, otherwise I can truly envision a genuine Handmaid's tale or Mad Max scenario, where women are just constantly impregnated.
Do I think it's likely? No. But anxiety doesn't gaf about likelihood 😭
I'm not technically past child rearing age, but I'm in my mid-30s so I'm pretty goddamned close to it. I did change my residence to Texas last year, specifically to vote in the elections, and I was a Deputy Registrar so I did voter drives to register others to vote...but we saw how well that worked out last fall.
I'm fighting while I'm stuck here, but the second that the military moves me, I'm out. Changing my state of residence. Removing all ties to Texas. Etc.
When Abbott was voted in again, I had to try very hard to not be like ""Whelp. Fuck you Texas. You get what you voted for."
I live in Texas, and I'd favor this heavily only if the US allowed us non-crazies out first, gave us refugee status and then some financial support to those of us who need it to get started again in a sane state. Getting a new job + place to live is hard.
Then all the hateful assholes can go live in Bigotriopia all they want without us pesky compassionate types.
Bye Texas! Bye Florida! Bye Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi! I'm sure y'all'll get a few years to live in your Happy Hatred before the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean swallows y'all up!
God this is a depressing thought. We have enough people here who ARE already publicly vocal for the likes of our far right. To think that there are posers is kinda as terrifying as it is believable.
Yeah, it sucks too. A couple years ago I was trying to get out of a Sirius Satellite subscription I had opted into during the height of the rony 'rona.
Instead of sitting on the phone with CSRs for hours on end while they pass me around and offer me incentives to stay, I thought I'd be smart and report that my credit card was lost. (At the time you couldn't disenroll online, that changed I happily found out a few months ago)
Joke was on me though. Sirius updated my new card info, and I was without a credit card for ~8 days.
Bro, you're talking about a 13 year old being forced to give birth. Why tf would you ask "What trimester is she in?!" Versus "Holy shit how have we failed her this badly?!"
Favorite Poe short story ever! I made a D&D arc loosely based off it once! (And at the end when one of the players was like "...that NPC was amontillado'd!" I whipped out a bottle I had picked up from the liquor store for a little extra flourish amd was like "Yup, and lets have some!"
We all had a glass for the first time, and I gotta say, 10/10 would not follow a dude into a creepy underground staircase for a cask of it. Not worth it.)
Bruh, try to understand this: The people who are facing dehydration, starvation, and heat stroke crossing the desert are not rich people. There are legal methods of immigrating to the US, if you have money. These are poor, desperate people. Even people who immigrate illegally with a little bit of money tend to favor flying in legally and letting their visa expire...not potentially dying while crossing the desert on the way.
Think about it, no matter how bad shit gets in the United States (whether R or D in charge), the only people who actually leave the US are people with means. Everyone else toughs it out, because they can't afford other options. Shit never gets bad enough here for poor people to get up and leave.
Where these people are coming from, their lives are literally so fucking bad, that it doesn't matter that they have no money to their name - they have to get out. They see no other options. Leaving and facing the US Border Patrol (or worse, Piss Baby Greg Abbotts personal army) is legitimately preferable to what they're leaving behind.
Let's treat them like human beings. Let's try showing some goddamned compassion.
I mean, that's a good point/solid possibility. It is the bare minimum, more should be being done, and they know that blue voters aren't worshippers like the MAGA folk are, so the Dems know we will ask questions/demand answers.
However, selling wins right now, however small, has to do something for the party, right? It's gotta give the voters a little to be...idk...less bleak about. Right?
I've said this before, but I'll say it again. He is doing (some) good shit, Dems are just shit at PR.
The Union Busting was a bad look, all around. No one can dispute that. It left a (rightfully) bad taste in the mouths of the working class. The Biden Administration publicly showed that it does not support Labor Rights when push came to shove.
No one is fucking talking about it though (I myself just learned about it a week ago), because again, Dems are fucking awful at PR. And it's going to hurt them in the election.
I'm starting to truly question whether or not it's on purpose that they're so quiet about certain stuff that they do, especially when it's to their own detriment.
Yeah, if I had it my way, I'd be voting for someone more in line with AOC or Bernie Sanders, but until a candidate like that takes the Primary, I'm left with Biden. Just because Biden isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination, doesn't mean it's worth it to take a vote from the Dems and by proxy give one to the Republicunts.
That being said, fuck the DNC is fucking terrible at marketing. I just found out like 3 days ago that rail workers have indeed been getting the sick days that they were asking for due to regular followup from the Biden Administration during negotiations. The strike and him being a Union buster was a huge (rightfully so) story, and a bad look all around, but fucking tell the public about your wins too, jfc. It's not that hard.
Also, his move to keep the Space Command in CO was pretty meaningful to a portion of the population (women and LGBTQ+ in the USSF), and it actively fucks over Tommy Tuberville in AL (who hates women and LGBTQ+ people).
Should we demand better? Yes. Do we deserve better? Also yes. But let's not pretend he's the worst candidate up there. Let's keep pushing for more actually Progressive politicians, but in the meantime, don't let perfection be the enemy of progress.
Okay that caught me off guard and made me fucking laugh.
