  • Absolutely meeting my husband. Joining the military absolutely laid the groundwork for breaking out of my conservative/republican ideology, but it was truly the work my husband put into me to pull me in Progressive thinking. I tell him all the time how he's made me into a MUCH better human being.

  • Ugh yes. I canceled my Amazon Prime like 5 years ago, and swore off Amazon completely until they started streaming Vox Machina. Sucks that's the service Critical Role went with, but it is what it is.

I should check out Tales from the Loop too.... and cancel AppleTV now that Ted Lasso is over.

  • I agree. 100%. Like YES, Israel is being maximum scum by retaliating with excessive force. We get it, they have all the "1st world countries" funding them. They keep murdering people with a crazy multiplier compared to Palestine.

But to pretend that Hamas is not at all culpable or disgusting for their OWN actions is not it.

  • Denver the Last Dinosaur!

I've never met anyone who knows what this is, even if I sing what I remember from the theme song.

My husband is slightly older than me and he had no idea wtf I was describing. It was a late 80s/early 90s cartoon with a green long necked Dinosaur with sunglasses that performed in a band.

I had to YouTube the theme song to make him believe it was real.

  • Samsies on the timeline. It was 2020, I was deployed to the desert, and I was taking classes for a Masters Degree in Public Health.

I could NOT mentally deal with all the Covid misinformation flying around, and my family's love of Trump. But I for some reason also couldn't stop myself from checking FB constantly.

So, I deleted it, and the whole 30 days wait time was hella annoying because I had to stop myself from logging in. But when it was finally gone, I felt SUCH an immense relief.

  • My husband and I don't have kids, and we've severely cut back (not fully cut out yet), but really cut back on our meat consumption. I also avoid buying plastic whenever possible, and buy things like toilet paper/paper towels/regular linens made from recycled materials. Actually, if I have the option to buy anything made from recycled materials I'll typically opt for that. That's about it right now.

Only tangentially related to your question, but I'm also in a Master degree program for Public Administration so when I retire from the military I can roll right into law school. My goal is to become a Public Defender, which, I know, is fucking hard work with a lot of burn out for little pay, but I do have confidence that I can be an extra pair of hands for an overburdened industry. Everyone in the US is entitled to competent representation, and I've no interest in representing those who can afford their own lawyers.

And it burns me up that the rich can often get away with paying simple fines while the poor who can't afford it go to jail and become essentially legalized slave labor. Fuck that. Anyone I can help save from losing their livelihood, home, family, car, etc, is a big fucking W in my book.

  • Bruh Lemmy is so fucking supportive and wholesome. Thank you!

I will admit tho, it's taken me until my mid-thirties to hit this point, and there are many relationships from my past that I wish I could have saved. Can't dwell there though, gotta save the ones I have now and be the best wife I can be for my husband (and the best me I can be for myself!)

  • My codependency. I completely rely on others for my own validity. If people are busy/don't want to hang, it really upsets me.

I know it burns out my closest friends. I talk to most of them daily and over analyze the fuck out of our friendship if they get busy/distracted.

I'm honestly lucky I still have the ones I do. I'm also starting my first therapy session on 31 Jan so I don't lose the people I have in my life.

  • Yeah. Military member with a uterus stationed in TexAss here. We're tracking how precarious the situation and how much Tuberville and supporters are fucksticks.

I would highly, highly recommend that anyone with a uterus who values their bodily autonomy heavily reconsider joining the military at this point. I'm grateful for the steps that the DoD is taking for us. I'm grateful that the abortion provisions that we do have were protected in the latest military package. However, I'm all too aware of how flimsy it all is for us.

But not just us serving. It's flimsy for EVERYONE with a uterus. I hope people in blue states realize when they cast their vote that just because they are where they are won't protect them if Republicans enact a nationwide ban. I hope that they remember/consider the young girls/women in red states who aren't allowed to have birth control (religious zealotry), or who were raped, or fuck it, they just had sex because that's what people do, and they don't have the means to travel away for an abortion. I really, really hope that they're remembered.

I also hope that they consider that a Republican man will NEVER view a woman as an equal.

  • Yeah, I saw the connection you made, and then the confusion from the original poster, and I was like "Oop. Some conclusions were jumped to here!"

It wasn't an illogical leap at all, but Texas-New Mexico border towns are already trying to claim that their towns are "Fetal Sanctuary Towns". They want to prosecute women for driving on their roads to seek abortive care in New Mexico. So the last thing we need is people like that assuming that every woman driving anywhere is doing so just for an abortion.

    Ugh. This state blows.

  • I think she was on a road trip bruh. Like just a normal, every day road trip. She didn't want to give Texas any of her $$$ in gas, taxes, hotel, or food. If I didn't live here, I wouldn't either, and I openly applaud her for her dedication.

Not every single road trip across the US needs to be specifically for medical care. In fact, I'd argue that no one should have to take a road trip for medical care. Don't make assumptions.
