  • That's very useful information, I'll try that when I'm back at my pc. Thank you!

  • I'm kinda mixed on it so far, I feel like I should've gone with something like Endeavour OS or something similar. Using a more commonly used distro would simplify troubleshooting and provide a bigger user base to siphon information from. I don't have any problems with Bazzite but I'm kinda feeling like I'm missing out by not using something a bit more complex tbh.

I've read about rpm-ostree and my impression is I'd rather not use it to install anything if I can avoid it, which also feeds into my desire to use a different distro.

Bazzite comes pre-installed with distrobox and boxbuddy, I'll need to put more effort into learning how to use it. I've read up on the basics of it but I haven't yet put in the effort to fully understand that program.

I'll check out that video, thank you for the link. I also wanted to say that you've been a massive help and I greatly appreciate all of your help that you've provided me! Thank you!

  • Yeah that's completely fair, there are valid reasons for not liking dogs, I'm just being a bit hyperbolic.

  • Dogs are the best, I'll never understand how people can dislike them.

  • I hate discord as much as the next lemming, but it's meant to be a quick chat style service, so lack of proper spelling and punctuation doesn't bother me like it does on most other social media. As long as the information you get from others is correct, who cares about the spelling tbh.

  • Fuck right off, my life sucks enough. My precious little dog is my one ray of sunshine in my life, he's always happy to see me and never fails to bring a smile to my face. Dogs are just the best, idk how anyone could possibly not like them, it just doesn't compute for me.

  • I'm perfectly fine with that, in fact I'd like to learn more about how to use the terminal in detail cause I find it fun. Part of why I switched to Linux is because I'm bored of Windows, among many other issues it has these days. Learning a new OS is fun, I'm enjoying my time with Linux so far.

You're the 2nd person to bring up my choice of Bazzite, I don't have much installed yet so I'm open to switching to another distro if that'll make things easier for what I want my system to do. I almost installed Endeavour OS but ended up going with Bazzite because I've heard that Arch distros can be a pain to keep up, but I'm speaking out of ignorance, I still know barely anything about Linux.

Basically I want something at least somewhat stable for a Linux noob, but I don't want something like Ubuntu or Linux mint, I'd prefer a more "intermediate" distro over a beginner one like the previously mentioned distros. Building Arch from scratch is a bit much for me for example, but I don't want it overly simplified either. What would you recommend for a distro?

  • Thank you, I'll look into that and see if that works for me!

Yes I'm trying to install the Plex media server app so that I don't have to boot back into windows whenever I or my family wants to use Plex. I don't have a dedicated server so I just install it on my main pc. Still haven't figured out how to get it installed tbh, any help on that front would be much appreciated!

  • Absolute rookie mistake by me to not go to the source for information first, that's my bad. Thanks for the link!

  • Thanks for the link, I should've browsed there before asking my questions, lots of good info there.

    Thank you!

  • Thank you very much for the detailed response, it's very helpful! Browsing through the discover store is actually fun, like the good old days of checking out random programs on windows before everything went to shit.

    Thanks again, it's much appreciated!

  • The worst is when you're dead tired all day and struggling to stay up after work till it's late enough to sleep, then when the time comes to go to bed....

    Wide awake

    I hate my body.

  • That's the thing that people who want flavour bans don't get, it helps people quit cigarettes cause it tastes good and gives you your nicotine. Yes it's more appealing to kids as well but if flavours get banned then more kids will just start picking up cigarettes again cause they're dumb kids(I was one too, no shade) and want to look and feel cool, and if their friends are doing it then there's a good chance they will too.

Idk what the solution is but banning flavours is just gonna push people back to actual tobacco which is absolutely worse than vapes. Kids are gonna use nicotine no matter how much or a fuss people make or how hard you regulate it, a flavour ban isn't gonna make things any better and will piss off a lot of people that aren't kids, including me.

Fuck off and let me poison my lungs with fruity vapour if I want, that's basically my retirement plan at this point anyways is lung cancer or liver failure.

  • I agree, I'm quite happy with Bazzite so far!

For now, I'm going to stick to Steam games on Linux since I still have a 2TB Windows drive for my main games. My plan is to use Bazzite to get a feel for Linux and eventually move completely over from Windows once I'm more comfortable with the OS and know how to get everything I want up and running. I'm honestly having fun with being new to an OS with more options, I haven't had to google such seemingly basic tasks for a computer since I was a kid.

I'm using the KDE version of Bazzite and I'm really liking it. It reminds me of being a kid and exploring Windows 98 for the first time, everything is new and interesting, and searching through the menus to see all the different options brings back a certain nostalgia.

I'd like to ask a few questions if anyone is willing to help me out :)

My mouse is a Logitech G502 X+ and I don't know what software to use to configure my mouse in Bazzite, what's the Linux replacement for Logitech GHub? My mouse works perfectly but I don't know what to use to customize the DPI for example.

What's the best practice for installing apps or programs outside of the built in "app store"? For example, I downloaded the Plex media server app as a .RPM file but I'm not quite sure how to install it. I already installed the Plex app through Bazzite OS' default app store, but in Windows I needed the Plex media server app to be able to serve up videos to other people as far as I know. Makes me feel dumb, but I'm used to .EXE's where it just installs itself. What do I do with a .RPM file? Or any other Linux programs downloaded from a website, like (I think?) tar.bz etc? I know how to access the files and extract them, but I'm not sure where to put the programs in general.

Thanks for your useful information btw! It's much appreciated!

  • I just installed bazzite on my 2nd SSD last night, haven't used it much yet but I'm looking forward to customising it to my liking and getting a feel for the OS. First time using Linux since 2014 when I dabbled in Ubuntu and mint for a while.

Any tips for a computer literate but relative newbie to bazzite(Linux in general really)? My pc is pretty much exclusively a gaming pc so thats my only real concern. About to download some games from my steam library to see how things go.

  • Infinite poop.

You sit on the toilet to poop, but the poop never stops coming out of your butt. You have to start flushing the toilet every two minutes to keep up. You try to pinch your butt closed but that makes your insides hurt. The poop accelerates. You call 911. The paramedics call for doctors. The doctors call for specialists. The story trends on Twitter. You turn down talk show appearances. Your septic tank fails. People form a cult. Your toilet is finished. Volunteers arrive with buckets and shovels. You are completely used to the smell.

The poop accelerates. You are moved to a stepladder with a hole in the top step. The poop accelerates. The shovelers abandon the buckets and shovel directly out the window. The poop accelerates. A candlelight vigil forms around your house. One of the workers falls over and can't free himself. The poop accelerates. A priest knocks over the stepladder and tackles you out the window. You land in the pile. The poop accelerates.

The force now propels you forward and upward. Vigil goers grab at your legs. The poop ignites from their candles. The Facebook live event hits 1 million viewers. The poop accelerates. You are 30 feet in the air. The fire engulfs the vigil and your house. 60 feet. The poop accelerates. The torrent underneath you is deafening. 5 million Facebook live viewers. You try to close up shop but your butthole disintegrated long ago. 120 feet up. Your house explodes. The poop accelerates. 1000 feet. You are now tracked on radar. You try to change your angle of ascent but you should have thought of that way earlier.

The poop accelerates. 4,000 feet. NORAD upgrades to DEFCON 3. Concentric circles of fire engulf your city. The poop accelerates. You have broken the sound barrier. 30,000 feet. You no longer take in enough oxygen to sustain consciousness. 60,000 feet. CNN is reporting on all the world records you've broken. 200,000 feet. You are no longer alive. The poop accelerates. Your body disintegrates but your poop contrail remains. NASA can no longer track you. You break the light-speed barrier and we can no longer bear witness.

    The poop accelerates. Forever.

  • Anything that fucks over landlords is morally correct. Fuck those parasites, get a fucking job.

  • But he uses the right buzz words, just gotta say "I'm not Trudeau" "that's woke" and "evil LGBTQ agenda" etc and the right will eat it up like pigs eating slop out of a trough.

r/Canada is such a fucking shithole these days, it's never been good, but it's insane how badly that sub is astroturfed these days. I'd be shocked if more than a quarter of regular commentors there are even Canadian or have even been here.
