Even with federated bans, people like that will just find ways around it to continue making alts cause they have nothing better to do with their sad lives. Just like the obvious hexbear alts on different instances these days, losers gonna loser unfortunately.

Much harder to stop them without making it too difficult for real users than it is for them to just keep making alts to spread whatever flavour of bullshit they want.

Tell me about it. It's practically impossible to avoid american news and it's fucking infuriating. I'm so sick of hearing about trump and biden or democrats and republicans etc yet it's pretty much impossible to avoid unless you dont use social media at all. I get that a huge chunk of the English speaking internet is made up of Americans but holy fuck shut the fuck up, as a Canadian I'm fucking sick of their brain dead sports team politics, especially cause that bullshit is infecting Canada now. We even have Canadian trumpers ffs.

r/canada is a complete and utter shithole, don't base your opinion of Canada off that sub cause I'd be shocked if more than a 1/3rd of regular commenters/posters are actually Canadian. Unpopular opinion on Lemmy, but I still use reddit daily on my pc so I can block ads and use RES with old reddit. 99% of the time I just browse by my subscribed subs which are all niche stuff that hasn't yet made its way to Lemmy, but when I do dare to venture to r/all, I can feel my brain cells committing suicide.

Anyways, I've been subbed to r/canada since 2015 when I first started using that website and the massive increase in right wing propaganda is very noticeable. If a non-Canadian looked at that sub, they'd think Canada was a mostly right leaning country, when the opposite is true. If the left vote wasn't split between people holding their noses and voting for the Liberals, and those voting for the NDP (my preferred party for 14 years now) then the tories would never win another election for a long time.

I'm 30 and born and raised in Canada. I can count the amount of right-wingers I've met on 2 hands. Most people I've met are friendly and accepting of people, although the rise in brainwashing from "conspiracies" is sadly increasing the amount of right-wingers. It also doesn't help that the TFW (temporary foreign worker) program is being abused to fucking hell by shitty, greedy corporations and that's starting to slowly turn people against immigrants. Even as a very left wing person, I'm getting annoyed at how many companies exclusively hire TFW's in jobs that used to go to high school kids and young people in general. Why hire a teen that has a complicated schedule with school and just generally being a teen, when you can hire a TFW that depends on your pathetically small pay cheque to make ends meet?

I've been working with immigrants since I got my first job 17 years ago, and I can count on one hand the amount of shitty immigrants I've met. There are far more "natural born" assholes than there are immigrants, it's not even a comparison. 99% of the immigrants I've met are awesome and hard working people that Canada is lucky to have. But companies are 100% abusing the shit out of it to suppress wages, and landlords are absolutely loving the shortage of housing due to our insane population growth. My rent went from $1800 a month in 2017 for a decent, well maintained 3 bedroom in a nice neighbourhood, to $2800 in 2022 for a complete shithole 3 bedroom in a sketchy neighbourhood.

People are rightfully frustrated with the state of Canada, but unfortunately that leads to a lot of brain dead morons blaming immigrants rather than the government that's happily serving the corporate and landlord classes at the working classes expense.

I know the last half of my post makes me sound like I'm against immigrants, but I'm absolutely not. Like I said, I've met far more shitty "natural born" Canadians than I have immigrants. I'm always happy for more good people to come to Canada and help to make our country better and more diverse. I'm just against greedy assholes abusing immigrants for profit at the expense of the common Canadian. Wages are being suppressed and rent is being artificially inflated because of the government caring more about keeping a good stock of wage slaves to support the boomers retirement. Trudeau even straight up said "house prices must remain stable" because god forbid the fucking boomers lose a bit of their net worth by reigning in housing prices.

The average Canadian is just getting bent over and fucked by the greedy owner class and I'm fucking sick of it, but the NDP have basically zero chance to win unfortunately and they're the only ones that would actually help the average Canadian.

I've been using sync since 2017ish or so and the long absences didn't bother me nearly as much because reddit wasn't constantly changing like Lemmy is. I happily paid for sync for reddit, but I won't pay for sync for Lemmy until he commits to at least fixing annoying small issues whenever a new Lemmy version drops. I've defended the author in the past but I'm honestly getting quite frustrated with the lack of updates and radio silence for months at a time while Lemmy is dropping updates quite often. I don't care about new features, just maintain parity with the latest Lemmy version, I'm sick of my posts showing as unread when I know I've read them.

Just small updates to keep up with new Lemmy versions, no need to make huge updates all the time, the app is already awesome, it just needs to maintain parity with Lemmy. Or at least acknowledge that he's aware of the problems and will be fixing them, I don't need a timeline but just a "hey I hear you, I'm working on the next update" would be much better than constantly disappearing.

All that said, I still have an immense amount of respect for LJ and I hope he's doing well. This is just an app for nerds, real life takes priority obviously and I understand that. But I'm frustrated at how long it's taking to fix basic bugs like posts not showing as read.

I would outlaw starting work before 12pm. I'm 30 and I still absolutely hate mornings just as much as I did when I was 10. I'm naturally a night person but working graveyards has more problems than dealing with early mornings IMO. Let all the morning people feel the pain of having to be productive during your least productive hours for a change.

When I was a kid growing up in small town Canada, "swamp water" was all the fountain drinks mixed into one cup. Thought it was delicious when I was 10!

Oh I agree, I play Overwatch casually and couldn't care less about my rank, in fact I exclusively play quick play even after 150 hours. But Starcraft is inherently competitive to me due to its 1v1 focus and even without caring about my rank I still find it too stressful and hard to play without a ton of time invested. When I do play it, I prefer to play the campaigns or coop. 1v1 is too time consuming even without caring about rank and only playing unranked.

Starcraft. I still love playing through the campaigns and coop, but I don't have the time or energy to keep up with the 1v1 anymore. Used to play it a ton back before Legacy of the Void, but you basically have to treat that game like a second job in order to be competitive and not get destroyed most of the time. I remember going like 3-4 days without playing back then and it'd take me 3-5 hours to get back up to my usual level of play.

It's still a lot of fun to watch pros or high level players play the game though, at least IMO.

Unfortunately true, but at least Poilievre is nowhere near as batshit crazy as the republicans are. Still fucking sucks that the cons are most likely going to win though. At best things will continue to get slowly worse like they already are, and at worst, things will degrade faster.

Either way the average Canadian isn't getting any help from whoever wins the next election.

I've experienced -50c where I live, it's typically only for a few days per winter but those days are absolutely terrible. It literally hurts to breathe when you're outside and you can feel your nose freezing up, and your eyelashes freeze shut if you blink too long or too much.

Even a quick 5 minute walk is excruciating. It's always a good reminder of my mortality to be outside in that weather, being locked out of warmth would be a quick death sentence.

It's just a common way to call someone an idiot where I'm from 😅

Mushrooms.

Everything about them disgusts me, from the way they look, to the way they smell, the texture they have and the disgusting mouldy, dirty taste. Even seeing them growing in the ground grosses me out and I'll take a wide path around them to avoid going near them.

Outside of magic mushrooms, they have literally zero redeeming qualities. I hate them with a passion and it's basically the only food I never grew out of hating.

Unfortunately for the bears, it's duck season, not wabbit season!

Tbh I find it much more surprising that there's an overlap of bears and stupid people than I do smart kids and dumb adults.

I've met an unfortunate amount of people that would struggle to dump water out of their boots with the instructions written on the bottom of the sole.

After hexbear got defederated from most of the major instances, the fucking losers just make alts on different instances so they can continue defending that propaganda filled shithole. Now .ml seems like the new worst, no matter what you do these no-life losers will find a way to spread their bullshit.

Takes much more effort to try and stop them than it does for these losers to make alts unfortunately.

As someone that lives in a small city where my morning commute is 15 minutes, and 20 on the way home, this is fucking insane to me. 70 minutes is 3/4 of the way to the next town at highway speeds.

Edit: To add to that, I work four 10s rather than five 8s a week. If I had to drive that long every day for work, I'd only have about an hour and a half - 2 hours to relax before it's time for bed if I want 8 hours of sleep.
