  • There have been studies proving its significantly cheaper to house the homeless than to manage the secondary effects of mass homelessness as we do. We want homelessness because our culture is highly punitive, with many believing some deserve to suffer for making "bad" decisions to feel superior. Schadenfreude is a hell of a drug. They also function as scarecrows for the capitalists, ensuring the working poor knows what happens if they fail to show up for their scheduled exploitation.

  • My example isn't in the news everyday because our people don't care about them, otherwise the news would report on them.

Our news knows what drives views. We largely only worry about people of means who are preferably also photogenic who are in trouble.

It scales too. We basically moved heaven and Earth to rescue that billionaire's goo from the bottom of the Atlantic from trying to show off as it dominated the entire news cycle and the nation and world held its breath for a week.

It's the world we live in, I just find it morbid, inhuman, and proof of a severe socio-cultural disease.

  • It always fascinates me in a morbid way how we can hyperfixate on individual suffering when there are people unnecessarily suffering and dying in droves both domestically and abroad.

It's sad, but a woman got kidnapped on vacation and is likely dead or in sex slavery. People unnecessarily die horribly in our tent cities of exposure to the elements and police harassment constantly, as we consider their lives without value because we're a sick, broken people. Some of us even wish death upon them for lowering local property values by selfishly continuing to exist without capital.

But this victim is affluent and photogenic, so it's very important and no resource will be spared.

  • As usual, corporations want all of the PROFIT that comes with automation and laying off the human beings that made them money for years, but they also fight for none of the RESPONSIBILITY for the enshittification that occurs as a result.

No different than creating climate change contributing "externalities," aka polluting the commons and walking away because lol you fucking suckers not their problem.

  • They feel they're prepared this time.

The owners have gotten so much better at propagandizing the peasants from birth with the media they own and the curriculum they inform having long captured state and federal governments that there are literally millions of poor victims of this system that will fight to defend it against their own interests.

True believers who kill themselves working for shareholders who would never even bother to learn their name, let alone let them into their country clubs, deluded into literally believing anything but this rigged market capitalist hellscape must be an evil marxist, Leninist, socialist, communist word salad of terms they don't understand at all but were indoctrinated to hate and fear anyway blindly.

The owner's numbers are tiny. Their doting, self-hating class traitors begging for senpai oligarch's love that will never come are what prevents what you propose.

  • Agreed, hence the 50 year range.

Got elected 44 years ago, another 6 years to minimize prominence beyond being a shitty B actor who just... dissappeared 50 years ago...

Oh wait, probably need to back up a little more to prevent his Governorship. Do we have enough temporal gas?

  • Don't trust corporations, especially those where one egomaniac has all the power.

I disagree with the inference of the second part, publically traded companies are forced by shareholders to lay off workers and sabotage long term plans for short term profits all day every day, and they're emboldened and desperate knowing their grift has nowhere left to grow/metastasize on a finite world they've already largely raped, pillaged, and conquered for it's capital value.

The problem isn't whether one egomaniac majority shareholder capitalist or 1,000 egomaniac shareholder capitalists let their insatiable greed disease do the managing.

The problem is capitalism and the worst of human impulses it stokes exclusively by design.

Fuck Elon Musk the blood emerald heir with a bachelor's degree playing pretend he's Tony Stark though.

  • Embracer joins TimeWarnerHBODiscoveryParamountSoonblahblahblah in confirming capitalism is in its terminal stage.

No unexploited markets in which to further to grow/metastasize, and entire economic sectors eating their own tails to be gutted of their ability to actually make the products/services their sector existed to provide in the first place for a short term stock bump celebrating cruelty.

This is a fire sale, and the capitalists know it. The worst bit is, it's happening in every economic sector, even the life and death ones.

  • Yet another example proving that having more money is no indication of intellect or critical thinking skills.

Teslas have always been junk. Junk the manufacturer doesn't even bother stocking adequate replacement parts for because you already bought it, suckers.

  • Anything to make it sound nefarious, because to Republican voters, everyone is as dishonest, tribal, and ammoral as they are.

This is all Fox "News" and other conservative outlets do all day every day, take the news and add sinister innuendo to it. If Biden were doing a state visit to the UK, Fox would almost certainly say "Biden flees overseas to avoid American's scrutiny of his administration's failures" or the like. If he had that state visit planned but canceled it due to some urgent matter, the headline would be "Biden cancels state visit. Health concerns? What's he hiding?"

Republicans basically spin any positive or neutral information about their many enemies, everyone outside their in-group, as an attack on them. Republicans have no empathy, so of course the sun moon and stars all revolve around them in their view.

  • I think they'd need to send something bigger than tsar bomba up there to do that, wouldn't even a nuclear explosive lack it's terran scale in space without the enhancing effects of an atmosphere? Edit: ohhhh nevermind, EMP.

Also that would certainly be a MAD event where we'd be forced to retaliate on a nuclear scale?

  • The funniest bit about this Taylor Swift thing if you think about it is that Modern Republicans love the negative attention they get for all of their hateful causes, they literally try to make people outside their in-group hate them for their own amusement. They welcome the rest of America's disgust of them as a badge of honor. It's in their rhetoric, threatening "Give me an excuse to shoot somebody" door signs, and "fuck your feelings" bumper stickers.

They're blowing a microchip over Taylor because hatred is their brand, positive popularity is something they've always shunned and devalued, and now their ENEMIES have most of the popular figures they drove away, leaving them with... well... kid rock.

They want to be hated, and they want to win, at the same time. So it's literally offensive and not fair to them, and anything not fair to them is a "conspiracy," that social popularity is relevant in an election. 😂
