Why is it so easy to avoid nettles as an adult?

  • In the United Kingdom, an annual World Nettle Eating Championship draws thousands of people to Dorset, where competitors attempt to eat as much of the raw plant as possible. Competitors are given 60 cm (24 in) stalks of the plant, from which they strip the leaves and eat them. Whoever strips and eats the most stinging nettle leaves in a fixed time is the winner. The competition dates back to 1986, when two neighbouring farmers attempted to settle a dispute about which had the worst infestation of nettles, and one of them said, "I'll eat any nettle of yours that's longer than mine."

  • I've never seen a kid at an adult-oriented drag show, fortunately, but I've seen Pride events occasionally offering a kid-friendly show, and there's the drag story hours that are a perennial conservative lightning rod. Drag queens are good at interacting with crowds and they're generally really colorful - they're probably quite entertaining during story hour.

  • This isn't even an isolated thing, I was a physics math double major and I've got into discussions with friends, and the overwhelming consensus was that calc 2 was the worst. Possibly because it's where sequences and series show up, whereas calc 3 is just calc 1 but in more dimensions.

  • Pineapples specifically are the code for availability to swing. A pineapple print Hawaiian shirt would also work. If you see a house with a bunch of pineapple decor, they might be a swinger. Or they might just really like pineapples. Regardless, I personally can't look at the ubiquitous summer pineapple decor for sale in stores the same way I did before I knew about swingers and pineapples.

  • I initially thought I had been. Like the other person commenting, I realize that completed surveys are good for the poor schmuck working in the call center. But a few questions in, the questions themselves became extremely biased. Like "were you aware that [Dem local candidate] voted in support of the LGBT agenda?" type shit. And then the "pollster" asked some questions that mentioned local towns in rural Minnesota - completely mispronounced. I asked where the caller was located. It turns out the local GOP candidate hired a call center in New York.
