  • Any ranking Democrat would be far too committed to trying to manifest norms by acting as if they were still in force to even consider such an action.

  • Belarus did this a few years ago with a flight from somewhere else to Lithuania that was carrying a Belarusian dissident. The few minutes it spent in Belarusian airspace was enough for the air force to intercept it, force it to land and arrest the dissident.

IIRC, there was a huge outrage, which didn’t help the dissident (rogue states gonna go rogue and all that), but since then, no EU/western flights have overflown Belarus.

  • When the oligarchs bought land in NZ and built their apocalypse bunkers, you didn’t really think they’d let the country remain a social democracy around them, did you?

  • Doesn’t Dutton own a chain of childcare centres or something similar?

  • Depends on how well Starmer fares, and how good the right’s data microtargeting game is. If left-leaning voters stay home due to Starmer tacking to the right (and, in key electorates, precisely targeted Facebook ads inducing disgust in just enough voters), while the right-wing papers keep going on about Labour’s loony-left socialist programme driving Britain off the cliff (illustrated with photos of empty shelves in Venezuela), Labour will find itself falling between two stools.

  • Judging by their mugshots, they were perpetuating a longstanding family tradition

  • They could well eclipse the Tories in the next election, especially if Tufton St. switch their allegiance. A Reform LLC government is not less likely than a second Trump administration in the US.

  • Distributing a lactose-based food as charity to low-income neighbourhoods, when people of colour, who are most overrepresented amongst the poor, are also most likely to be lactose intolerant, has a certain energy.

  • Not quite, but they have a town that is entirely in one big building.

  • You know how a lot of DIY gadgets have slogans like “trans rights are human rights” on the circuit boards? I wonder if the Modretro has some fascist slogan similarly inscribed. Perhaps “Deus Vult” or some particularly authoritarian Bible verse number, or maybe just a couple of plausibly deniable 14s and 88s.

  • Ace Frehley, surely. Nice Jewish boy who was in one of those beat combos

  • It could be a threat, or it could mean something like “hang in there” or “stay the course” (“dead” as in dead straight, dead reckoning or similar), possibly from some specialised vocabulary. Is there more context?

  • Depends on who you are. If you’re Brock the quarterback, you’ll be fine. If you look a bit queer or neurodivergent or are from a racialised minority, probably not a good idea.

  • The Pope keeps acting like a Catholic

  • I suspect Nicole is a similar sort of operation to Aidana the pretty lady dentist from Kazakhstan, only aimed at people who’d be more sceptical. So instead of stealing images from a fitness influencer, they got some from a more average-looking young woman and made up a story. If it’s like Aidana, there’s a guy somewhere (probably in the hinterland of Russia or elsewhere in the former USSR) whose day job is to string the people who reply along, lead them into believing they have a relationship with this lady, make sure they’re absolutely sure this isn’t a scam, and then pig-butchering them for all they’re worth.

  • Given that he regards the Department of Justice as his personal litigators, it makes sense that he’d regard NATO as his enforcers.

  • Their hearts would have to beat a lot slower, as pretty much every species gets 1-2 billion heartbeats per lifespan.
