  • Snapchat gives you options to not give permissions to access your decice's media, notifications, contacts, text and/or calls. It has no active background activity or network activity. It only stores content that I give it authorization for. That is not anywhere close to meeting the defined parameters to be considered spyware. It literally qualifies it as not being spyware.

Spyware will not request consent because its purpose is to access data without your knowing about it. When legitimate software includes spyware, they are only able to do so by burying the consent in the installation agreement. They dont give users options to opt out of it.

  • Fuck I thought from the title it was an answer to the identy of the creator of bitcoin who is often credited as being the creator of the whole cryptocurrency concept, Satoshi Nakamoto. Not a story about a douche who created another useless crypto coin.

  • Woman: fears for her life and the police do nothing so she disappears for 60 years Cops: "Women can be so flighty!"

How to tell people you were born after 2000 without telling them you were born after 2000.

What do you expect the cops could even do in the 60's to help the woman? Press charges or arrest the husband? Oh wait the first comprehensive domestic abuse laws weren't even made until the 1970's.

Ok well I assume you would then want the cops to take her to a battered women clinic? Oh wait that wasn't a thing either at that time either!

Have the cops advise her to get a divorce? Ha, only gays, whores and hobos didn't marry for life back then.

Cops wouldn't have even investigated the abuse part of the complaint, they wouldve investigated the threats of murder that were made but its not like they could obtain any physical evidence like text message transcripts or emails or phone logs. They wouldve gone to the house, asked the hisband if he threatened to kill his wife and he would say no and that would be the end of it.

I apologize if im off in my assumption you are under 25y/o but the context of your comment jumping to the cop's incompetence throws enough flags to assume you didn't experience much of what the world was like before the internet.

The real take away from this article should be the absolute balls on this woman for taking action into her own hands and never turning back. I respect the fuck out of this woman.

  • What is signal? To me when I hear someone refer to signals they are referring to a gas station chain called signals. Which also have payment machines for credit cards that will prompt you to enter your card's pin but you can just hit the enter button without putting in your pin in order to process the purchase as credit card payment and not as an atm card payment.

If you are referring to a different company, product or service that isnt the gas station signals, than I am absolutely delighted at this mix up and how much the two have crossed verbiage uses. 🤣🍻

  • I live in Ruralasfuck, USA. Most of my peer mellenials think the word "firmware" is some made up Harry Potter nerd shit. Thats coming from my generation who grew up with technology. You start going up the generation ladder from there and it doesn't get any better. The older generations will maintain a similar void of understanding but its delivered with more homophobic or racist sentence enhancers than I normally get from my mellenial peers. Usually will sound something like, "What the fuck is firmware? More made up shit you learned from those Harry Potter f*gs you used to jerk off to?"

  • It could just be karma whores expanding to other platforms than reddit. Idk if it's still a thing but there was a time on reddit where people would steal posts, repost old top posts and aquire as much karma as they can on new accounts. Then sell the username to shills so they can push their agenda without looking like an obviously belligerent shill. They might try the same approach on lemmy before realizing karma doesn't mean shit here which is where you see them deleting their accounts.

While possible I do think it's a stretch, I also think it would be completely inefficient to try and train any LLM by feeding it data from lemmy. I wanna say the average number of active users on lemmy at any point is around 40,000. Compared to what google says reddit's avg daily active users which is 52,200,000 users per day, it would seem like a complete waste of resources.

  • I mean the statement was heavily implied to be anecdotal to my experience but I'll add to it by also saying I haven't met a single person who runs an emulator console using anything but raspberry pi hardware.

What are the 98 out 100 people that you know using? Mini desktops?

  • Not saying you are wrong or anything. I just remembered seeing Bill Gates' name being brought up as a supporter of raising the estate tax for the richest rich people. Its not the article I remembered but didn't feel like spending time sorting thru the search results for the most reliable source but here is a Forbes article that mentions Gates as supporting raising the estate tax:

    https://www.forbes.com/sites/cartercoudriet/2019/10/15/billionaires-more-taxes-gates-buffett-bloomberg/

There is prolly more/better articles out there but all the top search results today are referencing Trump's estate tax hike that was announced in the past day or so.

  • How is retropie still able to operate? Seems like 9 out of 10 people who buy a raspberry pi are using it with retropie to play retro games. Seems like something that holds that much of the emulator industry share would be targeted by Nintendo.

Subsequently, if I know someone who knows someone who has a retropie for gaming, what's the worst case scenario that could come from Nintendo shutting down retropie's ability to provide the means to emulate? Will it be fine as long as the OS isn't updated any further? Just run the emulators and roms already installed on it as long as no new emulators or roms are added after the possible crack down?

  • Pretty sure the sync app was abandoned by the creator. Hasn't been update in months and have seen other posts by users complaining that they receive no reply when reaching out to them.

Source: recently switched to Thunder app after experiencing too many bugs using sync and found no information for future updates or patches.

  • Guna just lay out the obvious, your check book manages thousands of dollars accross hundreds of transactions. The federal budget manages trillions of dollars accross millions of transactions. A certain amount of tolerance leeway should be expected but to your implied point, they are still fuckin terrible at it.

  • From wikipedia:

but now it is rarely prescribed, due to concerns of misuse and addiction.

Sounds like its a diet amphetamine and in my experience our Healthcare professionals only like prescribing amphetamines to rambunctious children and teens./s

  • It's 5 one way trips. The article says the trucks run from Dallas to Houston which is about 250 miles according to google. It does mention that over 4 years it's made 10,000 deliveries but I wasn't sure if that meant as a company or with the self driving trucks but had a driver in the truck for the 10,000 deliveries. It only specifies that the 1,200 miles has been done without a person in the truck.

  • Stories like this is all informal thought about watching one of the new episodes of Black Mirror. To bend your elbow past 90 degrees or raise it above your head, please upgrade your subscription plan. Not saying anything based off the article its just a gut feeling some of these soon to be real medical advances are going to allow our already scum bag ran Healthcare system to exploit impaired patients and their dependency of a tech device.
