  IIRC Orcas are one of the species that does shit that appears to have no biological advantage. Other species of dolphins do too.
  Dolphins as a whole have some really creative behaviors, especially in social circles. And it appears that they do these things "for the hell of it."

  Do they eat salmon? Maybe they are signaling to the humans that their ships and garbage are killing off their food.
Meanwhile, trout mask replicas are always in style!
Imagine if orcas start a fad so popular, humans start getting in on it, too, and it becomes the first ever cross-species fad.
