Now a psychopathic murderer/dismemberer is gonna be someone's next-door neighbour... how in god's name do you fuck up a case THAT badly? Like, they won't even retry her because of this, so she just walks. Unreal.

Holy shit, this woman should be behind bars. The article indicates she had a child with the other confessed murderer, is that child at least OK and out of her hands?? Jesus christ.

Wow, holy fuck. According to the article, they confessed to killing a man, dismembering the body, and throwing his head into the Rio Grande... and the ADA was such a superstitious fuckup that it doesn't matter. How does a guy like this get to that station in the first place?
The way I read it was she was in the hospital when the murder went down, not sure about the disposal, thus the prosecutor had to come up with the story of her being a "witch" to make her culpable. I may have read it wrong though.
This article was very poorly written so I can see how you ended up with that idea. The first few pages of the NM Supreme Court filing, which you can read here, clear that right up. This woman and her husband independently admitted to murdering and dismembering the guy.
This woman isn't walking free because she's innocent because by her own admission she's not. She's walking free, literally getting away with murder, because the prosecutor in her case fucked up so bad.
