You really don't think it's relevant to this story that the president who said he wanted to fund the police in his first state of the union address signed a law that allowed these Republicans to waste federal money on stupid cop bullshit? It's basically guaranteed that if any staffers inside his administration had tried to stop this county or anyone else from wasting this money on stupid cop bullshit they would've been fired on the spot because Biden thought "funding the police" was a political winner.

Stop whining about the past and work for a better future.

This is basically what Greg Abbott and all the Republicans have been saying about this with their "finger pointing is for losers" bullshit, and they're wrong too. Most spoke on the condition of anonymity, for fear of losing their job or being subjected to a polygraph exam. They described varying levels of dissatisfaction but weren’t looking to complain or expecting sympathy—certainly not at a time when many Americans have been disturbed by video clips of masked and hooded officers seizing immigrants who were not engaged in any obvious criminal behavior. The frustration isn’t yet producing mass resignations or major internal protests, but the officers and agents described a workforce on edge, vilified by broad swaths of the public and bullied by Trump officials demanding more and more.

Fr tho, this is awful. It seems like for now at least everybody needs to get their own lawyers and court dates to prove they're a citizen if the Trump administration wants to go after you. BTW, a lot of law firms have struck deals with the administration limiting the kinds of pro bono work they will do. Also deportations to third party countries are legal for now. Also, they may deport you while you have a case pending and then do nothing to bring you back when a court does order it.

So, yeah, they've probably created a "no due process needed, exile all the uppity poor brown queers and any other deviant troublemakers we don't like, unless they have someone inside the system that can get them a pass (and even then maybe do it anyway)" machine here.
