Here's to the Matildas win and the man's birthday
Image of a Double chocolate mousse cake.
Criticism 1: Note the air bubbles in the base. That is because I poured the whole mousse into the base instead of a little bit first, then smooth it out, then the rest.
Criticism 2: It was quite crumbly. That's because I made it yesterday so it's been in the fridge a whole 30 hours instead of the recommended 3 hours.
Conclusion: Apart from those two things it was relatively easy to make and quite delicious. Whipped cream was served with it. Would make it again. 4/5 yum yums.

I added up the Ks from my trip... In 26 hours I covered 1,157km
319km yesterday (23km by train and 296km by bus). 838km today (188km by train, 643km by bus and 7km of walking)
I also slept for 56 minutes over this time so fun days 😆

Friend planned their birthday drinks at 6pm at a brewery unknowingly, booked a table. Get there, apologetic brewery owner: sorry all the soccer fans have colonised your table. Place was packed to the rafters. Owner: we'll give you some free food and drinks I'm sorry. Us: hell yeh easy, thanks. Enjoyed last hour of game with buzzing crowd, got free food and drinks and eventually our spot. Solid W.

It's come a long way from the catering cans of International Rust that I've unfortunately partaken in, that's for sure. It all depends on whether I'm drinking for pleasure or need. It is after all a drug, and if instant is my only option then I'll gladly partake rather than go without.

Yeah home made real coffee isn't worth the effort. I lived on that cheap home brand stuff for a couple of years. Annoying it doesn't seem to be around anymore, but the big jar of moccona on special are fine.
While we're at can we laugh at the word barista and coffee artists in general? Sure, its a skill like any other, but lmao. My first part time job was in a cafe. I wasn't a barista, just a short order cook basically. The pretentious single origin cold pressed $8 stuff for those with a pallette makes is a lot like the "vinyl revival", it's all fucking overpriced hipster marketing with no substance.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who replied last night to my anxiety freak out. I had a shower, a cup of lemsip and that helped me calm down and I got a decent sleep. Woke up this morning feeling less catastrophic and thinking that maybe sometimes shitty things happen for good reasons. I really want to return to study so had the idea to maybe do a bartending short course at the vic bar school and get a hospo job and get out of retail management so I can finally return to study and do a counselling course. Anyone done a course at the vic bar school per chance and has advice?

You could be better off just doing an rsa and dropping your availability in at a bunch of bars close to where you live. Any kind of management experience will be highly regarded. Source: worked in clubs and bars for a long time. Every bar is similar but has their own way of doing things. I can't comment on the vic bar school, but I hardly met anyone who had a lot of experience or actually did a course starting out.

Thank you for your advice! I was thinking I'd do the bartending short course and just learn the basics of drink making. I have no idea how to make cocktails and can't pour a beer on tap. I also assumed that bar or pubs would want someone with at least some training as they may not have time to train someone from scratch

I feel like we need a tutorial (maybe pinned?) on [!meta@aussie.zone] ? for basic posting instructions for images, gifs, links etc..
I see heaps of images posted sideways and it took like two months for me to figure out how to post a gif (thank you Pilk).

I think some of it can be solved by updates to the Lemmy software itself. I've seen the issue with image rotation and my assumption is that Lemmy is ignoring the orientation EXIF data. Also allowing the upload of GIFs, or fixing it so the image picker doesn't show them.
Then there are the laborious to users and communities when using desktop site which definitely needs a bit of streamlining. Sync for Lemmy lets you use the @ symbol to mention others, for example.

Day 17 of exercises completed. Baku's interstate adventures inspired me to get my lazy weekend arse out of bed. 3 loads of laundry done, one hung inside and 2 outside. It'll probably get rained on but I don't care. Better outside than loitering in my bathroom. Now just waiting for grocery delivery.

Today on Melbourne roads:
- Bicycle rider jumping a speed bump on the wrong side of the road nearly hit us.
- Doing 105 on the Calder overtaking a bunch of cars doing 90. SUV towing a caravan cuts me off and proceeds to fish tail and nearly lost control a few times.
- Tonight also on the Calder. Absolutely pissing down so most of us were cruising at 80kmh. Except for that muppet who decided that he could fly past at maybe 120.
- Doing 80 on a very quiet rural road of some sort. No idea what I did wrong but a bird somehow managed to land a massive shit on our windshield. Of all the places and time they could've shitted, it had to be on us driving past under the tree.

People that complain about the Ring road or Monash don't appreciate how good they have it.
I'll take being stuck on either of those than dealing with knobs between the airport and King's road.

Somehow the Bunnings site randomly set itself to another store which permitted delivery. So I have managed to secure two self watering herb planters, some potting mix, and some seeds.
My physical state is actually really bad at the moment but I seem to do better mentally when I have plants. Hopefully keeping the pots inside and the self watering pots help me keep them alive

There's a little recipe for this in my book of Vinegar. So mix half apple cider vinegar and half water and use it as a rinse after shampooing and conditionering. Then rinse again with just water. I can confirm it is extremely cold but it worked for me. I mixed the vinegar with warm water. Not shocking that way.

Ahhhh what a hectic few hours it's been but between last night and this morning I got 95% of what I wanted to do done and I am frankly amazed at myself. Frantically washed and dried the sheets, doona cover and towel as soon as I got out of bed (two quick loads), finished packing everything including random shit of mine in the fridge and freezer, last round of dishwashing and cleaning the surfaces, cleared the bins, cleaned the coffee machine, chased the cat down after she did a runner while I was loading the car ... And I remembered to have breakfast too. Couldn't vacuum, but I'd already done most of it yesterday.
15 minutes late for psych appt after all but it still turned out to be an amazing closing one (I'll really really miss this dude)...
...and I think most miraculously, I only left behind TWO things - rusty old secateurs and backup gardening gloves. Got home and have unpacked everything so the rest of the day is free. That's a pretty damn good ending to my month away as far as I'm concerned.
Although reportedly they've just come back and the cat is very cautious around them and even hissed at her favourite human :( :( :( poor poor kitto is probably confused as fuck and feeling betrayed. Hopefully she warms up to them again pretty soon.

Miss Meow had developed an underwear fetish. Hanging them to dry too low ends up with her pulling them onto the floor and rolling around on them. I also hung a towel over my weights frame because I was out of room on the drying rack and she has decided that makes a good cubby house.

Not odd. A good podcast, tv show, book, movie etc can be a good way to get some respite from anxiety. I think distracting the brain lets it calm down a bit. (My totally non medical opinion)

Sorry to harsh your buzz there friend. If you need a change of scenery while you decompress the shitstorm of your old workplace, bar work would be fine. I was in the music business, as a performer for the last 17 years. So I worked in hospo by proxy. I never got my rsa by I dealt with a lot of drunk people and was still treated like a sex object by a lot of bar staff. Bartending is not without it's pitfalls but an easy job you can probably leave at work in the short term.
I took a cleaning job with a great small business. At some stage I'll do something else, maybe. This employer is the best I've ever had and actually cares about my quality of life and not just making super duper profit. If you're at the end of your rope, no matter what industry you're in, it's probably for the best you do something low pressure for a while. I was a nervous wreck after my last job. Drank way too much etc, kicked up too much fuss and got spat out after incredible loyalty and severe mistreatment. I as anxious as fuck. It takes time to work through that's for sure. But I quit drinking, am much healthier and have a less bleak outlook despite only scraping by really.

So I tried the sardines in oil today. Mixed it in with a bowl of pasta for dinner.
Not quite as tasty as the herring and was quite….grainy at times?
Little bit of a tougher sort of fish as well, I’d still eat it but if there was a preference it would still be the herring.
I’m not sure if the taste was influenced by it being 90c a tin as well.

If it was 90c a tin, it was almost certainly packed in SE Asia for the export market. Check the packet. The one good thing worth paying for with the more expensive brands is the source of the fishies - SW Africa and/or SW America is prime. As is Alaska. The upwelling of cold water along the SW American and SW African coast is where sardies bloom. And fush from there are the best.
The grainy feel is almost certainly the bones of the sardies. Yes, just crunch them up - extra calcium and useful collagen. Not a problem imo but I can see that a newbie might be confused by the texture.

I was gonna unwind by finishing The Bear s2 but after a hectic day, between the shock of the cold at my place and, I suspect, drying clothes in my living room with the heater on which I think messed up the humidity (or maybe there's something going on with the reverse cycle splitty), I've ended up with a sinus headache/cold feeling. Great.
Then I ill advisely chose to watch the SBS doco on the Argos taskforce in Qld (that recently made the news with that childcare worker arrested with thousands of child exploitation images). It's called The Children In The Pictures. That was a heavy watch. Not graphic or sensational but just... even seeing the very edges of the surface of the forums these people have had to infiltrate. And the kinds of words used in the posts and stuff. I need brain bleach but alas I am catless.

It's a difficult watch particularly because ::: spoiler details - no, no personal experience a close family member - someone I've trusted a lot and the only person i could really talk to about mental health who understood depression, etc - is serving time for consuming such material. (I was never at risk as I didn't grow up with him and he isn't into girls anyway).
He would've used forums like these... and I just want to throw up visualising that side of him on the screen. Like seeing him actually do it. Juxtaposing that with all the good qualities I know about this person and how long I chose not to think too much about the offending. It's a mind fuck.
On the one hand you're absolutely right about the ongoing work to chip away at the abuse and that there are people working at it. On the other it is just so... The desire for people to seek more and more gratification seems unprecedented and partly a function of our modern lives, I feel. Leaves one feeling uneasy

It's a game based off D&D 5e. Same rulesets with a few tweaked to make it easier for video game vs tabletop. I've been playing it on and off in early access, as I pre-ordered, and it's a great game.
Larian made it this time, and I am a huge fan of their other series Divinity, which is D&D inspired but not based on any of its rulesets.

Alrighty, I made it to Mildura a couple of hours ago. I didn't really come to do anything, mainly just for the trip. I did, however, walk over to NSW and took a photo of the welcome to NSW sign (I'll share my pics when I get home - Jerboa doesn't like images over like 5mb)
I was wearing my jacket though, so I did sweat a lot, and I'm getting on another bus back to melbs soon and I'm a little nervous. I did bring deodorant, but not a spare shirt... Ah well, I'll be right I think, I've got a bit over an hour to dry out. Also I've issued 23 "morning!"s this morning, and I've received 15 back with 8 just ignoring me. Not too bad, better than I'd get in Melbourne I think?
I really don't know why I love Mildura so much. This is my seventh time coming here, and coming from Melbourne that seems like a fair bit. Also, to travel almost 1,000km I only paid $8.60 + food and drink, so that's not too bad I say! I love this fair cap

You can get to Mildura in about 6 or so hours by car, and I think it's similar if you take the fast way (train to Swan Hill then coach) but I like catching the night coach from Melbourne which goes all the way there, it's a night one and takes about 9 hours getting there at about quarter past 6. It's a great trip, and I do recommend!
