Got my flu shot yesterday and feeling a bit meh today. Generally I have little to no side effects, but this one has managed to kick my arse slightly.
Get your flu shots anyway people!!
Snap, got mine yesterday too. I've been fine though.
As far as I know I've never had influenza and I'd like to keep it that way.
You'll probably be fine. I was sick a fair bit last year, so I figure my immune system isn't as good as it once was.
I've only ever had 1 flu shot which was during COVID times
OCD chillo sorting achieved.
I am very interested in the small mid right ones. The cultivar is old, no longer common, sweet and fuckn' hawt:
Gawd I'm starting to sound crazy.
I like that the chopping board and the colander tone in with all the glorious red. It all looks amazing.
those are birds eye aren't they?
Ugh I feel like I heard somebody walking around on the deck at the front door. I'm not home alone, but the roommate is asleep. It's probably just possums on the roof, but it definitely felt like somebody on the verandah. I know that it's probably nothing and to put my mind at rest I should flick the light on and have a peek out the window, but I really don't want to. The conundrums of being an independent mini human :/
Sometimes just flicking the light in is enough. I hope you’re okay!
It was probably just your friendly neighbourhood Slenderman, nothing to worry about
Is it possible to get a stick on Ring camera? I seem to remember a rental friendly option but then again I think you have to pay a subscription
Edit: You can also maybe use an old phone as a security camera but you'd have to hide it and it's not protected from weather. Game cameras don't let you see out there live which is what you want
My new passport arrived today. Pretty impressive turnaround, I only put the application in on Friday. Definitely a huge improvement on the post-Covid backlog days.
Get a message from mygov 'link your digital id!'
Actual link goes to using your digital id to log into your mygov oh hell no.
yup, I got a mygov scam today too
Oh nonono this was legit.
My gov inbox letter inviting me via mygov to link my digital id...as a login method to mygov.
Again, hell no.
If you've got the energy, make an account on https://www.phish.report/ and start a takedown. It automatically find out who the domain registrar is (in my experience usually namesilo) and the domain host (usually Alibaba cloud) is and gives you a little button you can use to report it to them. Usually gets taken down within 24 hours
If you don't have the energy for all that, DM me the domain page and I'll do it
Edit: it also has buttons to report it to google and Bing threat intelligence/safe browsing, which is what triggers that "THE PAGE AHEAD MAY CONTAIN DECEPTIVE CONTENT" warning with the big red screen
Miss Meow says it is definitely dinner time right now and is claiming my explanation about changing clocks to be an unfounded conspiracy theory.
Out walking the doggo with a beer, thinking a burger would be nice right now...Whatever happened to food trucks at parks of an autumn evening?
Ugh, fkn clothes moths. uGH UGH
Noooo
Not you too
Mine seem to be dealt with now but I've moved on to fighting fleas
Bill and Ted are such lazy arses that they are getting moths. 😬
I'm not kidding.
They sit down and little moths fly up from their fur. I'm brushing them but obviously not enough.
I need 10 hours sleep from now on. 8 isn't enough. So tired...
Is it Hot Take Thursday? I think it is. Anyway my hot take is: Milo is not that great. It's ok on ice cream or the occasional hot drink but it's pretty bland.
You've just gotta put 10 tablespoons in and then layer it on top of the milk so it's all crunchy.
I think Nestlé deliberately made Milo Hydrophobic so you're compelled to add more thus buying more.
That everyone as well as kids <5 need ankle bracelets that deliver an electric current when they're not walking on the left of footpaths.
Nothing crazy.. maybe 220,000 volts or so.
I think if you have a toddler, you and the kid should be implanted with a magnet and it automatically activates in carparks.
Most children under 5 should be leashed
Mine were, lol.. both were pretty keen on doing a runner as soon as they were released from the confines of a stroller/car/parent, and I had foot issues after the 2nd pregnancy (plantar fasciitis for example) so i didn't fancy my chances of hobbling after them. My chase-hobbling looked like a John Cleese silly walk on speed so the cuddly toy baby leash backpack was employed. When my mum passed away and I was clearing out the cupboards I found a 70s baby leash with parental wrist strap.. looks like the apple didn't run far from the tree 😆
heh..
Actually saw that recently at the shops and wasn't quite sure how to feel about it.
Lord of the Rings movie : kinda boring and a serious lack of Tom Cruise🔥
I agree with your hot take, although I guess that makes it a cold take
Tonight tackling the pile.
Seed collection, making flakes/dust, fermenting and trying not to rub eyes or no no bits
Only fermenting the really little ones as they're unique for some reason and I need to see what happens.
But.. planning on collecting a lot of the seeds, so if anyone wants any, lemmy know if you Want it (they last for years).
Which brings us to today's rave choon:
gloves
😻
I didn't know capsicums and chillies could ferment
Online friend group drama has gone full batshit and is affecting my own mental health. Time to log off and just try and take a break from there. :/
so many hugs, listen to nice music instead 🤗😘
Clouds are clearing in Gippsland, this is good as I didn't want to inspect a car in the rain. Please let this be a decent one, I hate car shopping so much.
I hear you re car shopping. I’m going to have to do that soon, too. Good luck! 🤞🏻
Ooops! Overslept and hour and a half and was late for work today.
Hope the day goes quickly today.
My hope for no rain today?
ground and everything is so wet here, I'm wondering if was just a heavy dew
Please guys remember to post your meals on !foodaustralia@aussie.zone. I just had someone from Spain post which is pretty cool. Special thanks to @bull@aussie.zone and @PeelerSheila@aussie.zone for their regular contributions.
I have about an hour of work left, and zero (0) fucks left
Oh no 0 as as oh 🍩 hi he ho 🎶
Got my new shoes, got my haircut and saw my doctor. Time to go home and relax.
Fairly productive day all things considered.
I’m going to get my roast veg in the oven, and then I’m going to have a luxurious hot shower followed by cozy jim jams
Haircut in the arvo and some new running shoes. Life is good.
Enjoy your day everyone ❤️
I'm dusty and frazzled from my unexpectedly hyper extended trip thanks to trespassers on the track and my overall confusion around inspecting a car and trying to decide what can slide and what's risky. I get different answers from different people about how important documented logbook servicing is.
Folks with a working class background tell me it's not everything if it clears a pre purchase inspection and drives ok, and won't impact resale value that much, plenty of people just get their mates to do the servicing and it's turned out fine. Everyone else is like no way... rather even take a similar car with some aesthetic panel damage if it's got a solid logbook.
Log books, particularly logs where the owner paid for the service tell you that regular maintenance mattered to the owner. It's an indicator that the car has been cared for and looked after.
But they aren't everything. And their lack doesn't say that the owner didn't look after the car.
That's the thing with the second point, it's hard to decide whether it was just the owner being negligent or just looked after it in other ways.
However, adding onto the fact that it was an ex-auction car before this person bought it... and then left the country and has got her mum to handle selling it... is really adding up to some ???
Don't forget radar cruise (if it's available at that budget, not sure)
Hahaha hahaha absolutely zero chance of it being available at the budget I'm after! That was very nice to enjoy when I had my work car. But well out of my range with car prices being what they are. Right now I just need an affordable old thing to do basic commutes and a few weekend drives over the next year or two and then I might pass it onto a young relative.
My "real" car spend will likely be in 2-3 years time.
Who wants tomorrows thread - friday April 12, 2024?
I'll make it if I look in later and it doesn't exist. It's only 10pm my time.
The kiwi daily thread is just "anyone make the thread if it doesn't exist yet" - seems to work fine.
Alright. You've got tonights. I'll stop asking ahead of time
I'll do it if I wake up in two hours thinking it's 10am
My duo bird is now sending me countdowns
I would do duolingo but they don't do mandarin with traditional characters ( my duolingo looked as bad as a neglected tamagotchi )
so I've looked up some other apps. 👍
thank you for the prompt :)
and good luck with your streak :)
My bin doesn't make clink clink clinkity clink any more. I miss saying "that's my bin" when the truck goes past.
You could always tell the pissheads in my street lol including us
It was like a fortnightly intense wind chime.
Woke up early naturally... what a strange feeling! Taking the right dose of melatonin - 0.3g now that I actually have it in that dose - seems to be a huge difference compared to 1g.
Gonna be taking a long v/line ride to go look at a car today. It better be worth it!
Was it worth it, JK? How far did you have to go?
I went as far as Traaaalgon. It was sort of 50% worth it. I learned something
ffs, I forgot to put the sweet taters in the oven
Microwave
Second tea of the day
Gatecreeper tonight at the Prince Bandroom. we'll see how the kids go falling asleep tonight and maybe I'll go
You will not win this argument. I’m bigger and have thumbs.
meh, you have only two thumbs
For now…
I am not taking this footy tipping thing very seriously - I had 2 minutes to spare when I remembered I hadn't done it yet. Luckily, you can just tip tonight's game, save it and then do the others after that one is locked in.
This is a much easier round to call than last week. There were a few I wasn't sure what to choose last week. This week, not so much.
I’m thinking I should have tipped the lions tonight.
I wasn’t sure if they’d front up tonight against Melbourne or if Melbourne would be able to put up a fight against them.
Rest of the games for the round I think is predictable.
Looking at the score, I'm thinking we both should have.
I can't seem to make a post with both an URL and a separate picture. I'm sure I've done it before, not sure why I can't do it now.
First tea break of the day. Chamomile, and a sesame snap
Hey I have a silly question...
I have a Mac given to me by family when my old laptop had an issue, but I'm finding it really awkward and/or not compatible with many things I do. I have an old Windows desktop that I've pulled out that still runs. However it's Windows 7 which is now out of support. I'm not paying a large fee to buy Windows 10. And it's too old to be compatible with the free Windows 11 upgrade.
I do have a Windows 10 rescue disc but it's specific to a different laptop so wouldn't have the right drivers.
I'd go Linux but it also doesn't do some stuff I want.
I did manage to find a loophole and get a downloadable Windows 10 iso by accessing the downloads page with the Mac, which showed me a "Windows 10 multi-edition iso". It's too large to fit as a bootable on the format offered by the stick drive and too large to fit as a bootable on a non-double sided DVD, but I could mount the iso directly from the partition.
However. Is this iso legit to use? It's from Microsoft so it wouldn't be cracked, but idk if there could be some tech issues cropping up or I could get stung for not being licensed to use it or some shit.
Linux is your best bet, win10 is on the way out as well. Win 7 does still work as long as you're not a dumbfuck with it, but up to you.
Wrt things you don't want, what's missing? Mint is the easiest transition from a windows environment and will put less bloat on your system
Basically I want to be able to have a wide pick of games and apparently Linux can be difficult for that and a fair few don't run on Mac or Linux. I know there's stuff like Wine or emulators but I don't really have the spoons to keep running into roadblocks and stuff. It can be a learning curve and I just don't really have the brain cells to spare right now
Edit: I also find it easier to sign documents digitally with the mouse and email the signed copy back. This was something I did easily on Windows but the tools for that on Mac are really really not suiting me.
does this help https://www.howtogeek.com/509087/how-to-upgrade-from-windows-7-to-windows-10-for-free/
as to the question, I don't know.
It might! I do know the period to get Windows 10 for free is over and I'm not being allowed to upgrade to Windows 10 or get the iso on the Windows machine, but I may still have the key for the Windows 7 to use their suggestions. I am a bit concerned about Microsoft getting litigious about it though. As Adobe is considering people using old versions of Photoshop as not having permission.
There may be free online aps that you can access through your Mac browser, eg with a google account you can use google word processor or spreadsheet. If you have a specific task maybe some more knowledge people here can help on how to do it without windows?
I'm super wary of free online apps but thanks for the suggestion
Oops - wrong day.
Sometimes, in a split second I get this kind of sadness when I see something.
I saw a guy with his son and he was showing him how to fill the car with petrol.
Nothing special. Unless you've never really had a father. Then you think about all the other stuff you had to learn by yourself; like shaving, driving, finding your first job and hundreds of other small things you don't normally think about.
I suppose there's pride in having navigated from age 14 till 41 by yourself. But it's a poor 2nd place prize.
Sorry for the downer.
I feel this so, so hard. I can usually ignore things in real life, but I don't watch family movies or shows very much because they make me feel the same way, and if I ever do something or have an experience that feels like my idea of normalcy I end up in a euphoric like state for a few hours before crashing really hard and ending up really sad for the next few days
I think you deserve all the hugs in the world for having to feel that way 🫂 That's heartbreaking. I know you can't do anything about how it all is and you're unbelievably bright and level-headed and observant for all you've been through, but I hope so much you do find your own family when you become independent and get some of those happy family vibes in your real life. The physical feeling of belonging and security is absolutely unmatched. May you get to experience that for real with good people who will be there for you :D
so many super hugs
I get that feeling from "normalcy" too, then I see the dysfunctional fam and have to tone down my normal.
I'm the same with any family related media. It just hurts. I know about that euphoric state you're talking about. For me, they happen when I succeed at something I've been working hard at. I feel really good for a while, then the thoughts of "wish I had a family (that's average) to celebrate with".
All my victories are silent.
I lie to people when ask me about my family. I made up a story about how they are all overseas. Stops the weird vibe that happens when you tell the truth.
I felt this with some of the dads at my old workplace. Hearing them having to leave on time to go watch a game or going to a 9 day fortnight so they could spend more time with their kids. I kinda teared up for a bit thinking about how my dad never bothered. If he picked me up he was often late and I once spent 90 minutes waiting on the kerb (in the day before mobiles). The only time he ever came for an accomplishment of mine - the highest one I ever had - he made it all about himself and was a total embarrassment.
It must hit a lot harder as a man. Hugs
I'm sorry you went through that. I really am.
I saw a lot of that when I worked in manual labour. These guys were rough around the edges but they genuinely cared about their families and would do anything to make sure they were safe, happy and secure.
The way they talked about their kids, you could tell deep down they loved them. Even if they had this tough guy exterior.
Sometimes I tear up when I see families in public having fun and just being happy together. Lucky I always wear sunnies outside.
so many many hugs. Yes, your achievements are yours.
I'm a little older than you and am still finding out all the things I should know but don't, things that an interested parent would have taught.
But I did get taught a whole load of shitty baggage.
Thank you ❤️
Yeah that last part I know all too well. I'm so fucking grateful that I'm nothing like my father. I learned early that he was bad. But it took a hell of a lot of work and effort to correct the bullshit he instilled in me.
