It's Friday, I'm in love 💕
Woo, got a call back for the job I applied for. Interview week after next. Still feel numb about it but it's something! Not getting my hopes up but it'll be good practice and a relief to shut up my brain that thinks I'm unemployable after 7 weeks of bumming around
That's awesome, I really hope you'll have some good luck with this.
Is it a good role?
It's so-so. Pay could be better and I don't know what the org/team is like, also would be a bit of a drive away - but the experience level is just where I'm at, varied tasks, and a good foot in the door in local gov. If I got it I could see myself doing it for a year and moving on
Tell brain to shut up! This is the universe telling you that you are fully worthy of a good and great employment experience. That having been said, though, I wonder if this job is exactly right for you long term. Thinking of it as a good stepping stone seems pretty sensible to me. And no real need to weep if it doesn't happen. There most definitely is the right job out there for you. Might take just a tad bit longer to find it.
Brain is really a bit too loud and overbearing sometimes, even when it's in a fog, rude thing. Am legit feeling fairly casual about this job though - no hard feelings if it doesn't happen. I'm not really pushing for my dream/forever job at the moment, just an inroad to local government so I can expand my options and bide my time a little. A contract role would be ideal, but so far it's all been permanent 🫤
I do need to get my arse off the couch and stop eating into my savings though, so if nothing pans out by March I might chase up some low-stakes temp field work.
Cat tax
Ted is obviously scheming about biting your bum again.
always
Déjà Vu. They've changed something in the Matrix.
Ted is on the left????? It's getting really hard to tell them apart.
yes, Ted is on the left, he's about 5 cm shorter
Nup. Too cute!
Look at those two little nuggets. Peas in a pod. Ted is looking nicely filled out now. He can nip my bum for a change.
Bill has been slowly losing weight while Ted has been slowly putting it on. They are each served the same amount. ( Bill lets Ted eat his food , Ted was half starved in his previous life )
The young Seagoons call them potatoes. 😻🥔😻🥔
Oh my goodness!!!
They're so beautiful I wanna cry. 😩
I've been quite poorly with this back injury/sciatica this past month and they have barely left my side. 😭
😻😻😻I loved Ted with his freshly shorn coat, but he's looking so good now that it's growing out too!
I’ve been slowly befriending a lil black bird in my yard and today he felt comfortable enough to hop up towards, flick some leaves in my direction, and hop on 20cm right past me instead of flying a further distance to get around me.
Pretty chuffed.
🤗
The last earthquake I felt actually fixed the shower screen door that used to stick. Nature's own handy man.
I've fed the dog and he still tries to hustle a meal from other family members. Fucking scammer.
I can't get Vegas to eat his food today. He just keeps whinging for a treat (he has these chicken milk stick things he loves) but I said this afternoon no more sticks until he eats his food and I meant it.
I did treat him with a little bit of roast chicken at lunch time though..
Smear the food with peanut butter.
Or clever? Hehe.
He has the street smarts but I'm pretty sure cats do this too. Haha.
Have a great day people!
Have a great day too!
You too!
My good next door neighbour is having work done on his house today. Asked me if the tradies can use my driveway to park and set up. I agreed. He just dropped a case of Coronas at my house as a thank you.
At least I'll have something to give to guests now :)
Or you could ask a favour from someone and thank them with a slab of Coronas.
Just need to make sure the neighbour isn't around when it happens.
It’s not even 9:30, but I’m ready for bed. Nigh nighs
Peace out homey
This is for @melbaboutown. I was reading about how you're worried you can't focus because you keep looking at new things.
Looking at new techniques and materials is awesome, not a fault. NOT A FAULT.
What I was taught at art school is to do projects. Every new student is encouraged to choose a project, every week they are guided in learning and practicing technique and materials for the project. More than one project is encouraged.
So focus on the project but at the same time your interest can drift in all kinds of directions, and the drifting can all go towards achieving the project.
A project is typically something than can take a lot of hours of research, reading, testing, thinking, learning, practice, actually doing. A project is a work of art.
Good advice for anybody. The point of a hobby is not a race to the finish. The point of a hobby is enjoyment and personal knowledge growth. Meander as much as you want. That’s the best part.
Thanks! It's only a problem when I collect hobby stuff or never really progress or finish anything due to not being able to apply myself
I have hobby type stuff. Lots of beading and jewellery making supplies. Years ago I went on a kind of hobby rabbit hole learning techniques and materials.
Here is what I learnt. Nearly every craft hobby developed over the past 150 years was made by manufacturers of hobby materials and books. It only works when you use their exact products. Because the materials are so specific creativity is limited. ( a good example is diamond glue pictures). It's expensive.
old fashioned hobby materials are best for traditional projects and are always going to look rustic and handmade.
Art supplies and resources!! ( not hobby materials. )
and strike while the inspiration is hot 😊
I'm surprised. Was looking to spend quite a bit of dollarydoos on a new trench coat. I had specific design details that I wanted (not all trench coats are the same) and I saw one (online) that I'm assuming was last season's stock (all sold out). By chance I went into the store and asked. They had one left and it was 4 sizes bigger (I was looking for oversized) and I wasn't sure it would work, but the lovely store person made it work! I'm so chuffed. (It was also missing a small bit, but not bothered.) From looking at spending 4-something (it was also originally priced in that range) to less than 70.
In fact, I love it so much I'm sitting in it typing. Haha.
I've bought bigger sizes before thinking I could get the oversized thing to work, but I don't think it works with all pieces of clothing.
He needs a big Tongan guy and his mates to hold him down. Scumbag.
omg
that is sick 😫
I'm awake so I'll do the new thread.
My daughter has been invited to study (online) some sort of science subject at Southern Cross University in Queensland in which she maybe offered a scholarship later on. She will do the subject but will not take the offer for said scholarship.
🤜ARISE. G O FORTH AND FULFILL THINE DeSTINY🤛
I arose, went forth and put my recycling bin out. Was that my destiny?
Um, ultra nit-picky grammar correction here. THINE refers to a proper noun. If you want to attribute ownership to the destiny you have to use THY.
So either - "ARISE. G O FORTH AND FULFILL THY DeSTINY" or "ARISE. G O FORTH AND DeSTINY wILL BE THInE".
Either one works. Not both.
Also, the whole THEE/THY/THINE thing is the intimate mode - for use between close friends, lovers and family members only. Think "tu" in French. The YOU/YOURS is more formal - suitable for strangers, grown ups and the government. Think 'vous' in French. Though calling a government (any) grown up is a bit of a stretch.
Last remnant (or nearly) of this sort of distinction in English.
I knew there was something I liked about you. Thank you and Bless Thy Heart 🙏❤️
Your typesetter appears to be drunk
Got confused, fulfilled density.
Not enough hippos for that. Do you have access to a secret, sacred supply?

Yeah, nah mate.

The delivery driver is a gosh darn legend. He rang me to ask if he could leave the bike instead of taking it back to the depot.
Tassie truly is a different world. Took me a week after getting back to stop saying G'day to everyone, cause they all looked at me like I was crazy.
Hamilton soundtrack blasting for the afternoon
You say, the price of my love's not a price that you're willing to pay.
My name is Aaron Burr, sir
I'm a bleeding heart leftie for the most part, but shit like this makes my blood boil.
Age should play no part when sentencing in such an obvious case.
Cannot imagine what the victim's parents are going through
someone's gonna reply saying stricter sentences don't work for youth crime. That investment in public health services and early prevention are far more effective.
I'm going to be downvoted for what I'm about to say here but I don't give a fuck: Rehabilitation is a joke we tell ourselves to sleep at night whilst more people get killed.
I knew someone who was killed by an asshole who had previously been charged with violent sexual crimes who had no business being released and yet somehow made parole. He shouldn't have made parole, we should have killed him (or at the very least locked him in the deepest darkest hole ever).
How can I say such a horrible thing? Because that's exactly what happened. The fucker attacked a police office after the murder and was shot and killed. He committed a violent sexual crime, we let him out he did the same again before someone finally did what we should have done in the first place. As a society we failed the victims. Both the first, the second and the police officer that was attacked.
Judges make calls as if we can rehabilitate people. But we lack the infrastructure or investment to actually do that. Someone's gonna tell me "But TinyBreak, that's callous! Think of the human life". To that I say: I am. I'm thinking of the victims. You attack someone your no longer human.
Either we get serious about rehabilitation (never gonna happen) or we get serious about punishment. You want it both ways? get comfortable with stories like this.
Sorry, rant over. I just... have a lot of feelings about this. The world was a better place with the victim I knew in it.
Disgusting. Brutally kill someone, and get a slap on the wrist. I bet those kids were laughing and fist bumping as they drove away. I just feel so deeply hopeless and depressed when I see stuff like this. Some people are pieces of shit, and that includes the judge.
Moobeans was super reluctant to eat her medicated wet food tonight... she jumped up and banged on the wardrobe door which is the 'feed me wet food' signal while the bowl was right next to her. She relented and ate some after I put a blob of plain cat food on the edge but she's hiding in a cardboard box cubby, obviously not feeling well. It's possibly from the antibiotics, not finishing her pain meds, or being constipated/being given stool softener I guess... It's jarring. She hasn't done this in quite a while. I'll let her sleep.
I found a Kmart $3 clearance acrylic paint set that seems close enough to what I need and includes a few brushes. 🤔 It sucks but I don't want to buy professional supplies.
Cats are so finicky… hope your kitty is feeling better this morning. ?
She seems a bit better, thanks
Okay. I am up
I was up. Then I fell up the stairs and bashed my shin against the sharp hard concrete and now I am regretting my life choices (i.e. getting up). :-(
Coffee was very much necessary to get things going today. Felt like I was trying to climb a hill in 5th gear at 20km/h.
Today there will be mandatory fun. Woo…
lunar new year? it is customary that your boss should give you an envelope of cash
That would be nice. Last day of conference, we are supposed to be best buddies now.
My cat has engaged Velcro Kitty mode. He's been a bit standoffish this week, so I guess we're overcorrecting by demanding affection. Its a tad annoying when your trying to work, but I'll take Velcro over Speed Kitty any day of the week.
My dog is sunbaking outside. It's embarrassing that the birds drink from his dish while he snoozes.
Meeting in a cafe. It's rather nice to do my meetings this way
Not even remotely embarrassed to say I bought an ungodly amount of soap because it was on sale and the scent is a limited run. It just smells so fkn good, and the little bits in it that make it abrasive are doing wonders for my chest eczema.
hahahah couple weeks ago I found a mob flogging off their Ethique stock on catch. I too now own a ridiculous amount of soap and I regret nothing.
My bike is meant to come today, of course they won't leave it and I walked to work so I can't meet them at home so I won't be getting it today. I am miffed.
Can anyone here that works in IT spare a few minutes to look over a resume by any chance? Can pay in pizza and cat pictures
I am not strictly IT but related industry. I could take a look. Send me a message (I wonder if you can send attachments here....)
Edit : might be tomorrow am not far from sleep
Thanks so much! Really appreciate it. Will send a google drive link tomorrow 🙂
Kittenpants is still spurning the wet food then jumping up asking for wet food - or asking for something :/ It's got bonito flakes, crumbled treats on top and everything. This is a repetitive issue. What's worse is if I ever do get her to eat some of it she gets an appetite and asks for more portions which get eaten no problem.
she has kidney problems?
She might have a little kidney problem induced dementia
She does have some kidney disease, but I was told she was doing really well with it and her kidneys were good... she has had a stubborn extended uti though (still being treated) so I might have to get that checked out.
I'm hoping really hard that it's just nausea from constipation or the antibiotics. And that the jumping for my attention is conveying 'I want something/please fix something' because she's not feeling good. 🤞
Edit: Actually I did hear that utis can cause confusion in in elderly people or people with dementia :/
I threw out the ignored meal and made a fresh one with meds, slid it into the hidey hole... she woke up and is having it now
Edit: It's cuddle time
earthquake i think
Looks like out Leongatha way. I'm way too west for such things tonight.
According to the zillion posts on reddit I think you are right.
i contributed one comment
We wondered what that was
I keep feeling there’s earthquakes at night but it’s just my cat on the end of the bed scratching or stretching that shakes my mattress. I sleep with earplugs so can’t hear anything . Seems like last night was legit and I thought it was the cat again.
It felt longer and a little stronger than the last one but nothing like the COVID one. It's a go-back-to-sleep quake.
Watching The Marvels and it's honestly not a bad flick.
For recent Marvel offerings it's a pleasant surprise
Work from home day. I have been a good little health trooper this week but I am going to shout myself some junk food for lunch....pizza, loaded fries or nachoes????
pizza
I decided to go with nachos because I needed some groceries so I caved and did a Woolies order including stuff to do home nachos.
Will definitely get/make pizza this weekend tho
I'm a bit invested in the missing woman in Ballarat, Samantha.
People go missing in the bush all the time. Some are found and some are not. This is given me Alison Baden-clay vibes.
I didn't know about this but googled... new info has come up as of 2 hours ago, a woman was violently attacked by a man on a running trail like 20km from the search for Samantha.
Edit: The attack happened a year ago.
Some reddit armchair detectives are calling suicide. Trouble is with so few details available you can make almost any theory sound convincing with a bit of conviction. With any luck she's just run off with someone she met online, she's reinvented herself, she now goes by becky and she's a barista over in Bali or some shit.
Copped a slight black eye and multiple body bruises at training last night. Also got the beginnings of cauliflower ear. Getting it drained today, so hopefully it doesn't fully form.
Just saw the clip for the new "Roadhouse"... Why don't they just call it something else?
Then watched the trailer for the original. Hot damn, Patrick Swayze.
Mmm, productivity
I feel that Herb from Peaches and Herb fame is held in a squirrel grip here. Reunited
4 weeks of rest now, I should start moving around again. Still sore tho but not in agony.
So um, how come this guy opened the door twice? Why didn't the driver lock the door? https://youtu.be/I7j_IYYEYaE
Driver should have locked his doors, but the dude on the scooter (and his mates) are just drop kicks
Just speed watched "The Gift", a beautifully produced 3 series Netflix show from Turkey.
Turkey really is a very beautiful place. The clothes were lovely. All the different Hittite, Assyrian, Seljuk and Turkic peoples were represented.
This was the slowest episode of Ancient Aliens I have ever seen. Every single story line from Ancient Aliens was in it. I really hate Ancient Aliens, it's neo-nazism as written by von daniken.
Postie has the hump now the ombudsman and auspost are making him do his job and keeps repeatly ringing the doorbell until we answer and snidely handing us every single package regardless of whether or not it needs a signature. For some reason he seems to think this is vengance.
Bless the little idiot.
This result sparks joy. I wish I could receive parcels like this.
Don't understand how they make their job so hard.
In this case, emotional maturity of a hamster i'm guessing. He can't go the ol' yeet route 'cos of the cameras.
It's because it's not hard and they feel entitled to it being even easier. My years in public service have taught me that, essentially guaranteed employment for people with few transferable skills, leads them to think they should be doing even less.
Going to each door, ringing doorbells and waiting up to a minute for every parcel takes time. They can get through their route an hour quicker if they skip that and just leave the cards.
In ye olden days, over half of the houses had nobody home during the day anyway. The good posties learned which houses these were and pre filled out the cards. That saved loads of time. It eventually evolved into just about everyone getting a card.
These days, a lot of people work from home and actually want their deliveries. That's eating into the posties' previously saved hour. Some of them seem to resent it.
I think I missed it but did you end up involving the council and vicroads in the end?
