  • I agree with that point.

I would love it more if we could fix the issue by having the population informed of the consequences of capitalism and extensive consumerism but even I have to doubt that that would work on it's own and that people would still be lured by the false promises of everybody becoming a millionaire and "trickle down".

Anyways thank you for taking the time / dedication to chat with me, I rlly enjoyed it!

    Stay healthy and hydrated! :3

  • By directly auth I mean that someone with a political interest only needs to have ties to high class party members. By indirectly auth I mean that the same person needs to have ties + smh needs to make sure that the person / person's party actually gets reelected the way Musk has been doing it in the US and the way he has tried to do so in multiple European countries.

And as someone born into a GDR family I could add something to freedom but yeah. We were loyal enough and had someone in the party so we had more freedom than most GDR families... And tbh, life - as long as you were loyal - was, according to my fam, pretty chill with people being nicer because of less stress to compete for shit. They even say now they want socialism back.

The thing is I can be disloyal now, say that I vote for the communists even tho I live in a capitalist society and face no reprocussions even without having political connections. Travel wherever the fuck I want - to North Korea if I want to. So yeah. I want this system of "who tf cares" but without the greedy capitalists and the fucking corrupt opportunists but yeah. I mean the average middle class Chinese can visit capitalist nations so they fixed that problem.

Tbh I have been writing and thinking how to explain myself for so long that my adhd ass brain lost track of what I initially wanted to say...

Ah tldr something like: if peops have the freedom of movement and speech a communist system would be pretty chill but in the past freedom of movement was connected to having someone in the party - at least in the GDR

  • I agree with the points you make. Of course both Marxism and Liberalism is auth to a degree but I think that both the council republic and the single party state are both more directly auth whilst liberal systems tend to be more indirectly auth - through influencing the media & corruption "LoBbYiSm".

Thanks for the mander tip, I might decide between mander and .zip since .zip has broad federation too and multiple frontends and was also recommended a lot.

  • I prefer an instance that is unaligned in the lemmy civil war between the auth left and left libs. Using a hexbear, 'grad or ml account would instantly brandmark me in literally any conversation whilst most pure lib instances censor auth left content.

Overall I prefer to get both sides opinions and then make my own unaligned one

  • Oh! Sänk yu, Jürgen!

  • Afaik Teams is just Skype for Business rebranded with a new UI and more features so the spirit lives on

Still it is impressive how Microsoft managed to kill a voip & messaging service that had established itself to the point where you would use the brand name as a verb (at least in some languages)

  • I've just been to Romania... Kosovo & Albania are next on my Balkan adventure list ;)

  • Def agree but the experience may vary greatly from "best you ever had" to "dfq this is trash" depending on the freshness of the pineapple and the skill/determination of the cook. Like pineapple pizza is hard to get right but if you get it right it's extremely good

  • Plus if the destination lies on a higher sea level you may want to put the locomotive at the rear to push the wagons uphill (especially if you have a driving trailer). One of the reasons being that uphill pushing doesn't strain the couplers like uphill pulling does and that with a driving trailer there is no need for a locomotive to be rearranged for every drive to be in the front where you have the best view and train control.

Also putting the locomotive in the back allows for better driving control and stability, "particularly when travelling downhill." This allows "the train to be backed up into a siding or other area without having to turn the locomotive around. This can be particularly useful in situations where there is limited space for turning a locomotive or where it would be impractical to do so."

  • Doing my BSC in Informatics atm but I am already working as a student intern network engineer for the state railway working on the internal train network and the train-to-land connection but also on stuff like the announcements and dashboards. Wherever I am needed.

  • Ahh got it thx

Someone who gives up without even googling will def have that problem. But I for myself see the intervals in which my machine breaks increase a lot (and it's not only because of more experience) and especially immutables could decrease the risk to break Linux to a point where it is close to zero (with the nice side effect that it is easier to maintain for both the pc admin and the distro manufacturer).

Also: My experience (and that may differ a lot from the normie perspective) is that as soon as you are able to check forums for help with software at least the beginner friendly/popular distros are less painful to fix when your Windows pc got screwed. And the overall tone in Linux forums has softened a lot compared to when I first briefly tried a distro in 2016 (I returned in 2020 during the pandemic because I had the time and proton had been announced).

  • Atm if you use Linux you either are computer-literate yourself or have someone in your circle (even if it is an online friend) who is and who can help and if we ever got to the point where a random normie suddenly has Linux on their machine I'd assume someone at the computer store will be able to fix it

  • As far as I know a lot of Windows users are unhappy with Windows itself but can't/won't make the switch for various reasons. I don't mean them, they are usually very nice.

I mean those people who judge you for not using Windows because "Linux is crap because of drivers and updates" (as if those were uncomplicated/unproblematic on Windows) and then blame every tiny inconvenience on Linux. One dude I used to play games with topped it when they blamed my Linux distro for him experiencing lags claiming Linux was "messing with the game server" (before that they used to say "switch back to Windows" every time I encountered lags or similar).
