  • Mamdani destroyed Cuomo in the first round of RCV, when it was expected to be much closer. This gives me a hesitant hope that nationally the voters want real change within the Democratic party. Let's just hope this isn't a fluke, and the technofascists have really awoken a huge progressive voting bloc.

  • That's not what I said. It's absolutely dystopian how Musk is trying to tailor his own reality.

What I did say (and I've been doing AI research since the AlexNet days...) is that LLMs aren't old school ML systems, and we're at the point that simply scaling up to insane levels has yielded results that no one expected, but it was the lowest hanging fruit at the time. Few shot learning -> novel space generalization is very hard, so the easiest method was just take what is currently done and make it bigger (a la ResNet back in the day).

Lemmy is almost as bad as reddit when it comes to hiveminds.

  • Generally, yes. However, there have been some incredible (borderline "magic") emergent generalization capabilities that I don't think anyone was expecting.

Modern AI is more than just "pattern matching" at this point. Yes at the lowest levels, sure that's what it's doing, but then you could also say human brains are just pattern matching at that same low level.

  • You seem to be ignoring the entire class that owns them. Peter Thiel, Marc Andreeson, etc. can "create" political capital through manufacturing it. That's how Vance even got elected to Senate in the first place.

He doesn't resonate as strongly with the MAGA base as Trump of course, but since when did the will of the people matter, especially now that there are loyalists in every notable and important position in the whole of the executive (all agencies), legislative, and judicial branch.

  • They actively are. To run legal battles for recounts/audits in many different states is a ton of time, money, and manpower, so it's not like they can just do it overnight. Also they are building their case to ensure it's built on actual evidence, rather than Trump's lawsuits in 2020-21 that started with the conclusion and worked back to find something.

  • I posted this elsewhere, but there's already enough "weirdness" that the 2024 election should at least be double checked. I'm a senior data scientist and ETA's reports are enough to at least raise my eyebrow. We need more comparisons to past elections to confirm that this is truly anomalous, but if that's shown, then we've got some real shit to deal with.

To say they hacked the tabulation machines to inject vote flipping code is a massive accusation, so that requires a lot of solid evidence and we don't have the smoking gun right now, but we do have possibly some shell casings at the scene.
