  • 'Multi-Account Containers': https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/containers

With it, you can open tabs in different 'containers', which have their own set of cookies, etc.. So, for example, you can be logged into two accounts for the same website, just in different containers, or keep all your shopping accounts in one container (and set those sites to always open in that container) to reduce tracking and targeting.

  • Yeah, that is very silly. The usual convention when you have a tie for a ranking is to skip the appropriate number of rankings afterwards. Probably deliberate so that more countries' media picks up the story because their country has a high ranking.

Also, hats off to Henley & Partners for somehow convincing the media that a very straightforward ranking needs to be a brand-named 'index'. They don't even compile the data! They just take it from IATA.

Full rankings and more info here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henley_Passport_Index

  • Yeah, fair enough. I don't have any first-hand experience, but advice I've heard is that if you can get just one other committed person on board, you're halfway there.

If you've got a local Food Not Bombs group, that's a good place to find people that are into cooperation. There's other community groups around that might have people who are interested or that are willing to provide infrastructure of some kind - men's sheds come to mind. Otherwise, it's worth a try posting on local Facebook groups.

There's probably a guide or blog written around getting something like this set up. I should have a dig around.

  • Yeah, I don't see why they shouldn't be treated exactly like cigarettes.

From October that'll pretty much be the case, except only purchasable at a pharmacy. I can't see why they shouldn't be sold at servos, etc., but I don't think it's a massive problem in terms of personal freedoms. It'll give pharmacies a cash boost, and maybe even cause expansion of their opening hours in some cases, which could be helpful.

In any case, I think that the deal the Greens got is probably the best one Labor were ever going to give.

  • People have already given direct answers, and the indirect answer of 'set up regular automated backups' (which everyone should set up right now if they haven't already), but for the sake of throwing another option out there, people could take a look at 'trash-cli': https://github.com/andreafrancia/trash-cli

(P.S. I know OP might not have actually deleted the files with 'rm', but this addresses a broadly similar issue.)

  • I think it's worth emphasising here: Don't put it off!

There are millions who can tell you from experience that good intentions count for nothing when it comes to backups.

I'd recommend going and setting up Timeshift right now: https://github.com/linuxmint/timeshift

It's easy to set up, it takes literally 10 minutes, and if you decide later you want to use something else, you can just uninstall Timeshift and delete its backups. But in the meantime you'll be protected with backups.

It's literally the first thing I install on a new system and it's saved me multiple times from having to do a complete reinstall.
