Isn’t apple consistently removing ports on their newer products? I thought that was a common complaint.
It’s genuinely been ages since i’ve heard anyone try to defend the pricing of apple products for anything other than luxury purchases or rich people products. They’re vastly overpriced and underpowered, and they’re locked into the apple ecosystem. If you aren’t buying apple products for everything, suddenly a lot of shit doesn’t “just work” anymore lmao
bottom line, sober or not, evasion is not reason enough to kill someone.
i don’t think anyone should run from the police, provided the system is working the way it should. but i also don’t think police should put themselves in front of an evading vehicle either. that’s needless danger, and any force used with that danger as justification is needless force.
in this case, unless she’s in a stolen car there’s no way the cops couldn’t find her basically immediately after this crime. obviously for violent/dangerous criminals the approach should be different, but for shoplifting? are we serious here?
this many officers being dispatched for fucking shoplifting is already a waste of resources, are we gonna die on the hill that it’s totally fine for police to facilitate the escalation of that into death? there’s so many ways this coulda gone that aren’t death, and if cops can’t figure that out then they need more training at the very least.
i mean no disrespect by the way, you’re making your points very well and i appreciate the discourse.
oh don’t get me wrong, she’s certainly not blameless. she did all those things while pregnant as well, putting both her and her unborn child at risk.
i just feel like the cops could’ve recognized it was escalating and not allowed it to become a life or death situation. and i don’t think it’s unrealistic to expect something like that from a keeper of the peace.
edit: fetus is probably better in place of unborn child, i’m not trying to make a lowkey pro life statement
I don’t understand why the cops couldn’t just arrest her at home. They would’ve had positive identification, AND footage of her committing another crime by fleeing the scene. This was escalated into a life or death situation, and I can’t honestly say that’s entirely her fault.
There’s a niche. I’ve only ever driven older cars with less than stellar stereo setups for phone play. The idea is getting a small-footprint and quick to navigate stereo interface without actually having to replace whole ass stereo, and I find it pretty appealing!
For me the problem was connectivity. I assumed the car thing would act as a go-between for my phone and stereo, and it would remain always connected to the car audio system. Instead it’s just another thing you’re connecting to. It actually slowed me down significantly more than it helped.
If it could send/receive audio and just used your phone as a source, that’d be ideal for me. Like a suped up bluetooth receiver with spotify connectivity.
You literally can’t buy them anymore! Spotify quietly canned the project. Support pages are still up but I can’t find a purchase option anywhere.
I bought one pretty early into launch and even then they were already heavily discounted. It was a weird choice for a peripheral, but personally I really wish they had tried a bit harder instead of giving up outright
Funny, I switched to Ubuntu because my brand new laptop was continually bricking with Windows 10, specifically due to Windows Update.
Roundabouts the time period of the forced Windows 10 update I had a desktop and laptop BOTH completely break, booting only to a black screen on startup, having received somewhere around half of an update I had no say in.
I’d like to think they’ve learned their lesson. I’d like to think I could safely leave a windows computer on overnight without waking up to a surprise new version, or bricked PC. But even having that as an outside possibility is enough to turn me off windows entirely.
i think you’re viewing “tests” in this context to be mean deceptive. there’s no amount of trickery here, it’s literally just observing someone’s reaction to stimuli.
golly, lotta good QOL in there! thank you for taking the time to type up this reply, and extra thank you for not talking down at all. people really do be getting spicy about this lol
dog i said i know there’s other options available, it’s the premise i take issue with here. for a player completely unproven in this space to even have an option to pay $100 is wild.
conversations tend to be nonproductive when you don’t engage with them in a meaningful way.
i’ve used 3 and none of them were missing features i needed, what are you referring to exactly? lack of messages is something i’ve seen, and i don’t make use of them myself so i admit i wouldn’t notice them missing. what is there beyond that, customization options?
i’m not trying to be a shit by the way, i’m genuinely curious.
i’d suggest he get some supplemental income then. the market for lemmy apps is oversaturated. sync has dedicated fans, but the overall response to this pricing structure should be proof enough that this wasn’t the optimum move.
this could’ve started with a regular ass subscription price to get rid of ads, and a message asking for donations with the intention to add more (maybe even paid) features later on, once sync is established as something more than a big name from the reddit days. instead we get a $100 price tag and an assurance it’ll probably be more worth it later on (i know users don’t have to pay for ultra premium or whatever to use the app, but it’s a matter of principal).
if you’re already a sync user it’s easy to do that on trust, but consider the perspective of someone who’s first real exposure to the app was this brushfire. the amount of vitriol that’s been thrown over comments on the level of “i think $100 is too much” hasn’t exactly given anyone warm fuzzies for sync.
if literally the only justification behind the price hike is “probably people are willing to pay more”, then i guess all the people yelling “greedy dev” aren’t completely baseless.
to be clear, i don’t think they’re actively searching. the “drunken wander” bit is specifically aimed at people who got here from an “all” or “local” front page, but then started engaging without acknowledging or even noticing where they were, much like a drunk might do after wandering into someone’s home lol
i do love the response though, very well thought out and structured. thank you for being so constructive on such a hot-button topic.
