  • The Culture series by Iain M. Banks.

Not sure what it was. Maybe expectations were too high. Tried the first two books and they were fine, just didn't really trigger anything in me that made me want to keep going.

  • Thanks heaps for that. At the moment I'm relying on my Enlighten app login. Will check them out.

  • Mine has an integration which is handy (enphase). But it doesn't tell me my grid usage. I'm trying to calculate it by taking my total consumption and subtracting my solar production. I think it roughly gives me the right overall number.

The problem is I can't seem to get how much I'm feeding back into the grid. I might be able to work it out with some sort of calculation.

I might DM you about the P1, as it sounds like that might do the job.

  • Nice one. My system has that with its integration which is good. I'm yet to put it into a graph. The part missing from mine is working out how much I'm using from the grid.

  • Voyager. I've tried a couple others but keep coming back to it.

Yeah with the cost of Sync. I don't think it's right. This isn't Reddit. I've donated money to support a local instance and I'll donate to Voyager as well. I'm for supporting developers. But this is an ad free platform, so it feels wrong to pay so much for an app that adds ads to it.

  • You should have an option. I'm not on iOS. But try go to settings > appearance and there should be a Votes section that lets you pick separate.

  • Yeah there's definitely a bit of a circle jerk happening with Sync. People proclaiming it was the best Lemmy app ever, while up until a few days ago you couldn't even submit a post.

Edit: realised I even got downvoted for pointing out Sync doesn't have that functionality. How ironic that the only reason I can see that is because I'm not using Sync haha

  • Where did Microsoft or Larian say that was an option? Where did Microsoft say that they would be happy to have features cut from the X to keep parity with the S?

I pointed out how poor a business decision this would be if Microsoft would allow it. It ruins their offering for the Series X. How can it compete with the PS5 if they start allowing developers to drop features from Xbox games? The entire point of the article is that Microsoft has boxed themselves into this corner. And your suggestion isn't a good solution.

  • It's literally in the title...

Microsoft’s Xbox Series S Parity Demands

    And in the article...

While there would be some variance in technical capabilities between consoles, feature parity between the two would remain the same. It would remain the same because Microsoft would demand it remain the same, from both its own studios and third parties.

  • Hey guys, you should get a Series X because BG3 is coming out. Sure it will be missing features that you'll get on the PS5 like split screen, but you guys understand we need to support the Series S and have parity between our two consoles.

So even though you spent more money on a Series X, that's capable of running the full game that the PS5 is getting, you should just be happy that you're getting the game at all. Don't worry about having paid for a console that's capable of more.

    -Microsoft

  • Let's say that's something Microsoft would even allow, it diminishes the ability to compete with the PS5. Why would I get a Series X if there's a chance that some big game launches will have less features than other current gen platforms?

Microsoft really hamstrung this generation of consoles by releasing the S and demanding it runs feature parity with the X.

  • My comments are actually after seeing the local pricing. I still think it's too expensive. Perhaps other locations are more affordable.

  • This post is asking what apps are worth paying for. Someone suggested Sync is worth paying for. I disagree and offered a different opinion. No one said you had to pay for it, just whether it was worth paying for or not.

  • I'm sticking with Voyager for now. Sync is too expensive for a beta app. There's no post functionality in it yet. I'm also not sure how I feel about paying so much for an app to access Lemmy. I'd rather put some of that money into the instances themselves.

  • Honestly, there are actually some great apps on Android that are feature rich and I think all the others I know about are free too. I'm using Voyager and really liking it. Which is why I can't spend $25 on Sync. It's just way too much and despite having a great UI, is missing features like being able to submit a post.

Edit: To be clear, Sync is free with ads. Other apps I've tried are free and ad free.

  • The developer posted this and asked to let him know how it looked. Hence, I provided some feedback.

  • Yeah I noticed it had been changed. My feedback is that it's still too high. Sorry. The app is still in beta and missing major functionality. I think you may also need to look at some competitors as I haven't seen any priced like Sync and some are actually pretty damn good. I'm really enjoying Voyager for example.

I totally understand you need to make a living, but this isn't Reddit. And I'd rather put some of my money towards supporting the instances I use, rather than just in the app I use to access them.

I'm sure you're gonna do fine. You've got a great app and plenty of support. Just wanted to provide some honest feedback.

  • Still too much in Australia. Sorry, want to support the work like on Sync for Reddit. But this app doesn't even have functionality to post yet and is $25 to remove ads. It just doesn't feel right considering it's the fediverse and there are no ads at the source.

I know you need to make a living. So you do what you need to.
