  • I used to have a lv. 1 character who had end-game equipment and spells to grief in Dark Souls. Once, after wrecking someone, I get a DM with language so fowl and awkward I was sure it was a young teen boy.

I replied: sorry, I'm new and this is my boyfriends account, am I playing wrong?

  • 99/100 times complaints about "politics" is a someone taking offense at being confronted with politics they don't like.

But yea, if you like reactionary politics, Windows, or AI, Lemmy is going to be a bad time.

  • Fun fact: Robert Durst's attorneys convinced a Texas jury that he killed, dismembered, and threw his roommate into Galveston bay in self defense. The reason he tried to hide the body, they told the jury, was because he was afraid of Jeanine Pirro, who had unsuccessfully tried to prosecute him for his wife's murder.

But don't worry, rich assholes are only allowed two murders without consequence because Durst is convicted of the third person he killed.

  • Logic is the wrong tool for ethics. In formal logic, you can only assign values like true or false to something called "descriptive statements". These are statements of fact, that can be observed.

Morality deals with "prescriptive" statements. Unobservable and unstable statements about how the world ought to be.

Logic breaks down because it's impossible to argue for something that should be using only facts about how thing are.

The prescriptive statement "it's wrong to harm" relies on the prescriptive statement "harm is bad". Their is no bottom to it.

  • Everything good about reddit is a fruit of unpaid people doing labor to help, inform, or entertain what they feel is a community. Trying to crack down on their volunteer workforce is threatening to kill the goose who lays golden eggs.

  • Gaming is an grownup hobby for adults. Under 18yo are less than a quarter of gammers.

This idea that games companies don't understand their customers is a myth. They know who plays their games and more importantly who buys their games.

When games companies act in ways that disappoint, cheat, or exploit their customers, it's not because they goofed (usually). It's because they're business assholes and customer satisfaction is subordinate to plenty of sinister things that are opaque to the gaming public.

  • The reflexive hate for M$ is not irrational fan-boys bashing a rival, but bitterness over prolonged and profound annoyance, suffering, and downright abuse experienced through using the products produced by that dogshit company.

I switched because I wanted software that didn't hate me and my values.

What's irrational is the Stockholm-syndrome Windows user who thinks it's normal and right to run software that spies, advertises, and generally treats users like a resource to be exploited.

  • When I was in HS, a dude hung himself and everybody blamed his bully, who to be fair was a dogshit person. However it turned out that the dead student had been sexually exploited by both his parents his entire life.

You would have to show me strong evidence ala Michelle Carter before I'll draw conclusions about what's going on in the mind of a suicidal person.

  • It is not "natural" to prefer one ethnicity over another. That's because ethnicity isn't a material condition that evolution could adapt to in any meaningful way.

Not to say that ethnicity isn't meaningful as such. Boarders, sovereignty, and money are also abstract constructs that effect great influence over our lives.

  • It's ironic that the design of blockchain is to be impossible to edit as security against fraud. Because crypto is famous for all the fraud, And the block-chain's nature makes the fraud permanent and fixed.

At least one of the currencies had to fork because fraudulent transactions couldn't be undone.
