  • For me, it's any situation where you know you're fucked but can't do anything to stop the inevitable.

Give me instantaneous death where idk what happened or a slow progression of disease where death would eventually be a welcome relief. It's the in between that freaks me out.

  • Misleading title is misleading. He was in an 18wheeler truck, not a dumpster.

"This is a tractor-trailer style (trailer). You know, you picture that 18-wheeler, this is what the trailer would look like. A box trailer is where he was located, right in the back of that," Sauschuck said. "Some of those trailers are locked. Some of those trailers aren't. He was found inside one of those boxes that was unlocked from the outside."

  • I used to watch this YouTube channel ~5 years ago, called Lets Chat, where a guy would go to different places and have conversations with people about their beliefs.

Digging through my history, it looks like the technique is called Street Epistemology. It's basically a way to understand deeply held beliefs without coming across rudely. Here's a site I found that explains the process well

  • Absolutely. And to be fair, this is in comparison to other attractions I visited while in NZ. It was perfectly in line with what you would expect from somewhere in the USA. I think I saw a single gift shop during my entire time on the South Island, and the ones on the North Island seemed shockingly reasonable.

  • Yes, it seemed everything they sold there was overpriced. Especially compared to everywhere else we went that either didn't have souvenirs, or if they did they were reasonably priced for what they were. Their cafe also seemed expensive, with lower quality food than other places we went.

For example, I bought a Hobbit hole figurine from Weta workshop. The exact same figurine was almost double in price at Hobbiton. I considered buying a T-shirt there, it was 40 USD, and I ultimately decided was not worth it. I bought other gift shop t shirts elsewhere for under 20 USD.

That said, the tour itself was fantastic and I absolutely loved it. They did a great job of capturing the vibe of Hobbiton and the detail they put into the holes was awesome.

  • I think the most likely outcome is that they will remove coverage for wildfires, which would likely have to be purchased separately like flood insurance works today. You are correct that if it is covered by the terms of the insurance they pretty much have to pay out at that point, as it is a contractual obligation.

  • Yep. I can only speak to my experiences that occurred over a decade ago. I will say that everyone was shocked at how relatively easy to deal with they were at the time. I imagine as wildfires become more common and hit more populated areas that insurance will refuse to pay out more often. In our case, it was the most expensive fire that had ever hit our state, since most previous ones had occurred in remote areas.

We were actually lucky that our house wasn't ruined because my parent's policy actually changed at midnight the night the fire destroyed the neighborhood. I can only imagine the insurance trying to get out of paying up in that scenario.
