War and Genocide?

Jump
  • No, genocide has a specific meaning -- the wholesale destruction of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group. If someone holds up a bank and shoots two people, that's probably not genocide. If I invade a country and 200,000 civilians from that country die, that probably is genocide.

  • It's almost like the goal was to wipe anyone that opposed the US and its allies or that supported the old guard in Iraq... a large number of people from a particular nation.

  • People are targeted based on their membership in a “national, ethnical, racial or religious group”.

    Targeted like Iraqi Ba'athists.

It isn’t just killing. It’s systematic actions taken to destroy a group.

Systemic actions like the planning and execution of Desert Storm, armed invasion and occupation of Iraq's cities, ports and bases?

  • To anyone struggling in the USA and wondering how to possibly get out, just live like Congress and become rich. Then, money problems are way easier to handle. If you have as much money as a Congressman, you will be equally as unconcerned with them as to the state of our union and you will be able to say things are great with a straight face.

  • Given that there will be more people like Lia Thomas who want to compete at the highest levels in sports and that people who were born male can have natural advantages at sports, doesn't this mean that over time people who are born male will displace all people who were born female in sports, leaving no biological women in the top slots? If this trend continues, I don't see why this wouldn't happen over years and years. No matter how one feels about this issue this would feel like a profoundly unfair outcome.

  • Articles like this strain the credibility of MSNBC with clickbait headlines. This comes from a conversation regarding cheap imports causing a "ECONOMIC bloodbath" in the automotive industry.

I have NO love for Trump, but for the love of God, save your outrage for something else he's going to do other than lament the state of the auto industry.

A more honest headline would be "Trump discusses ECONOMIC bloodbath" "Troubles ahead for American autoworkers says Trump", etc. but of course MSNBC is filled with hacky journalists so they go for maximum outrage, knowing full well that most people only read the headline and that's it.

  • I’ve never had sympathy for this line of thinking. Is the average person truly too ignorant to understand that science is a constantly developing process of better understanding our universe, not some set of unimpeachable rules carved into stone tablets once and forever?

YES because often times the opposing model is the Bible, which is updated very irregularly and people will form sects over a single differing interpretation of a single passage.

Changing your mind / learning new information can be construed as the super-hated "flip-flop".

Unfortunately, the illogical are immune to logic. No amount of it will be effective.
