  • Pause interrogatives and interrogative starting marks - aka ,? and ¿

Interrogative starting marks are extremely useful for clarity and pause interrogatives better align with natural speech.

Eh buddy, me and Bob were thinking of heading down to Timmes. ¿Do you want to come,? there's a sale on the chili.

  • Alberta can't dictate the construction of pipelines and destruction of habitats on BC. She's 100% Calgary Oil Baron - even within her province there's a lot of push back against energy dependence and other provinces don't want to subsidize AB's economy with our future.

  • I think it's embarrassing we were still keeping private information from so long ago (outside nuclear stuff and the like) and I always appreciate more transparency... but yea, this is nothing but "look over here" being yelled by the turd as the stock market, the economy and his approval rating tumble.

  • As a BCer I'd agree that is normally the case but there's significantly more independence between provincial and the federal parties than exists in the US. My example? Christy Clarke, the BC Liberal party former Premier who was more deeply conservative than Doug Ford.

  • Yup! Also, Chinese intelligence work is insane - the chances that America could keep a kill switch out of Chinese hands is so vanishingly thin that anyone with a brain would prefer that such a kill switch didn't exist so it couldn't be used against the US.

  • I'm a Canadian-US dual citizen - the US can only exist in two forms: supermajority and dysfunction. Trump is an outcome of this binary choice because either someone can do everything they want or nothing - majority governments are a terrible outcome because the divisions of us, the populace, get subsumed by the party platform and policies that may represent just over a quarter of the population can get forced through.

When you have a minority government you need to give and take and policies end up better aligned to the public will - including priorities that the plurality party may not focus on (like the NDP's new dental plan).

Everyone except the CPC is united in rejecting American expansionism. If we have a minority government there will be no hesitation when it comes to telling Americans to fuck off.

  • Canadian here - it's unclear. Doug Ford is a slimey politician first and an everything else second... smöl PP is floundering in the polls, and had he taken the tactic of Ford (taking a strong stance against American aggression), it's possible we could still be expecting a CPC majority government in the next election. I suspect this is Ford saying "You made your bed now sleep in it" and that he doesn't want to tarnish his image standing by a clearly sinking ship - it may also be a setup for a national party run but I think Ford is aware that he'd struggle in such a campaign so that seems less likely.

Doesn't seem super noteworthy. It does seem like yet another nail in smöl PP's coffin, but nothing close to a party fracture or anything of the kind.

  • This aligns exactly with what I expect is the real truth. I have doubts there's any actual killswitch because that'd be dumb - but a constant devouring of proprietary parts is absolutely the case.

I maintain that what actually happened is an airforce general bragged to Trump about how every F35 sold means decades of political dependence and service fees that would act like a kill switch to keep our allies in line and Trump heard the words kill switch and just ran with that.
