  • Gamers continue to buy the games by publishers that do this and will continue to put up with it as they slowly boil like frogs.

It's difficult to fight the slow conditioning that started with horse armor and Farmville. There's no escaping it until we replace capitalism with something better.

  • It's hard to comprehend what 8 BILLION people really means as well. All of these social systems. Religion, governments, anarchy, empires all existed before there were even one billion people. Before globalization, before instant communication. During the fascist revolutions in China in the 70s there only a third that many people on the whole planet and no one had a cell phone.

Capitalism is failing because it's a pyramid scheme that's becoming flattened by the monstrous scale of the base. It makes it so clearly obvious what's going on now.

I feel like most of our attempts so far aren't equipped for the scale we're talking about. I hope someone with the resources to help can figure out how to educate the right people with the right perspective to come up with an alternative.. but probably not in my lifetime. Which is a bummer.

We definitely need to figure out how to average out the access to resources and influence. Lots of people think I mean communism but I don't. That's an old idea that we should consider borrowing from though.

  • You shouldn't have taken the bait. You're talking to a sea lion: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sealioning

I like your idea that we need to move in the direction of a more social communist environment over time. That makes sense.

Looking around at the world and arguing that everything is fine and saying no one could possibly thing of something better is so mind boggling ignorant.

  • The number one (by a long way) selling vehicle in the US is a massively over sized truck. Designed to be so heavy to avoid falling under emissions laws.

There is no electric vehicle that comes even close to that. You want those people interested in electric cars. They don't give a single fuck about what your think about buses and nothing you will ever do in your lifetime will change that. Ever.

Getting people into EVs is an across the board incremental improvement in the exact definition of the word.

You're right about the massive benefits of transit and trains in particular would be so amazing.. but none of the people we want getting out of F150s give a single shit.

  • The problem is not a technology one, and creating a copy of the thing you hate isn't going to get different results.

I never expected it to be better than reddit, actually I expected it to make things much worse through increased isolation of mobs. It does.

Only thing an individual can do is be the change they want to see and be nice to people, and resist the urge to "other" everyone they interact with.

That said.. if this is OPs lived experience we should be happy for them. They're having a positive experience that we all want.

  • Not really. It's in line with all US laws to ask for the death penalty

18 U.S.C § 2381, states that a person guilty of treason against the United States “shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.”

Considering the scope and impact of his crimes. It would be reasonable to ask for the maximum punishment.

  • I think people are underestimating how important the YouTube thing is.

If they succeed, the entire ad funded internet are going to clone what they do.

It will effect everyone everywhere, whether you run an adblocker or not.

It will benefit the large corporations and choke out the smaller people. It will consolidate control and wealth.

  • I love this for people looking for high quality games with fewer bugs.

The counter argument is that the industry is dominated by the opposite. Low quality trash with flashy graphics and deep monetization. Publishing execs would read this kind of thing and demand to never publish a Linux game.

Then they'd hiss at the sunlight and scurry back into their dank cave ..
