  • the whole point of having captains out in the black, is for them to make a judgement call on when the rules should be ignored.

Picard had a conversation with Data about this very thing, when Data went with his 'gut' to disobey a order.

  • aka The Motherfucking Kirk Maneuver.

  • Q is basically inflicted on humanity, the same way humanity is inflicted on the rest of the world.

  • same. there seems to be a lot of people that don't realize some things don't get done, not because they're impossible, but because as soon as they do it a company will put a stop to it.

it's like cracking a Xbox or something. the very next patch will render the method obsolete and nonviable. when i heard this workaround was coming for Android, my immediate reaction was how long it would last before Apple just changed something so that it doesn't work.

  • nah, some of us were making fun of this moment even back then.

  • as an OG Tribes player, Tribes 2 was still better. that was part of the problem. they made a Tribes game but seemed to misunderstand what made for a good Tribes game. Ascend was always kind of garbage-y,

  • they had a tendency to overheat in hot conditions, and when stuck in traffic. this is because they need a certain amount of air flowing in order to cool properly.

they also weren't very good for heat in the winter.

air cooling is a simpler system, and as such has less to go wrong with it. that doesn't make it better or worse. there are pros and cons to both systems.

  • you'll always know a flat-earther when you meet them. they won't shut up about it.

  • that's kind of my take on it too. Linux has come so far from what it used to be like. it's not quite ready to see mass-adoption, but it's making some amazing strides. so many different parties have been contributing to a massive effort to iron out some of the issues with Linux. once performance improves significantly over Windows, and compatibility gets a little more wide-spread, you'll start to see people willing to put up with the teething problems, in the name of superior performance.

THAT is when Linux will see more mainstream success.

some year, i don't know when, really will be the year of Linux.... maybe.

  • What makes a man turn neutral? Lust for gold? Power? Or were you just born with a heart full of neutrality?

  • it's always that way with that group.

we demand freedom! no not like that.

we support the police! no not like that.

    etc.

  • personally, i still do it out of stubbornness. the old cell phone games weren't real games. they were less than old Atari games. as cell phones evolved, so did the games. eventually we get into the more modern era, and some cell phone games are more 'real' than older console games were.

i acknowledge that modern cell phone games, are often more of a real game than games we had back in the console days.

that said, i'll still consider them not real games for many years to come. don't worry what other people think. if you enjoy them, play them.

  • Dodge started the trend of making their pickup trucks be stupidly huge.

  • sounds like somebody has never heard of Dwarf Fortress and the time they updated the cats.

"I added taverns to fortress mode, so the dwarves will go to a proper establishment, get mugs, and make orders, and they’ll drink in the mug," Adams said. "And, you know, things happen, mugs get spilled, there’s some alcohol on the ground.

"Now, the cats would walk into the taverns, right, and because of the old blood footprint code from, like, eight years ago or something, they would get alcohol on their feet. It was originally so people could pad blood around, but now any liquid, right, so they get alcohol on their feet. And then I wanted to add cleaning stuff so when people were bathing, or I even made eyelids work for no reason, because I do random things sometimes. So cats will lick and clean themselves, and on a lark, when I made them clean themselves I’m like, ‘Well, it’s a cat. When you do lick cleaning, you actually ingest the thing that you’re cleaning off, right? They make hairballs, so they must swallow something, right?' And so the cats, when they cleaned the alcohol off their feet, they all got drunk. Because they were drinking.

But the numbers were off on that. I had never thought about, you know, activating inebriation syndromes back when I was adding the cleaning stuff. I was just like, ‘Well, they ingest it and they get a full dose,’ but a full dose is a whole mug of alcohol for a cat-sized creature, and it does all the blood alcohol size-based calculations, so the cats would get sick and vomit all over the tavern."

after the update there were so many dead cats everywhere. alcohol is a solution, and all that.
