  • “After killing the toughest border deal in decades, Donald Trump is running on his trademark lies because his own record and ‘plans’ are extreme and unpopular. As a former district attorney, attorney general, and now vice president, Kamala Harris has spent her career taking on and prosecuting violent criminals and making our communities safer. She’ll do the same as president,” Harris spokesperson Ammar Moussa said in a statement.

I’m glad someone’s mentioning Trump killing the border deal this year. If he wants to talk about the border, let’s talk about that. The Senate should pass it again, to make headlines when Mike Johnson refuses to put it on the House floor.

  • E. coli levels should stay at or below 900 colony-forming units per 100 milliliters for “sufficient” water quality, according to World Triathlon. Only 1 of 4 test sites along the Seine showed levels below that limit, AP reports.

Training events had already been postponed with elevated bacteria levels following the downpour over the opening ceremony. Heavy rain can overwhelm sewage and wastewater systems, allowing untreated water to reach the river.

There’s more rain in the forecast for Paris tonight. But for now, both the women’s and the men’s triathlon events are scheduled for Wednesday at 8AM and 10:45AM local time, respectively. There’s also a backup date of August 2nd.

Seems to be pretty shitty odds of this happening on Wednesday

  • Attorney General Merrick Garland defended his appointment of special counsel Jack Smith on Tuesday as the department appeals a ruling finding he was wrongly appointed, saying he wouldn’t make such a “basic mistake.”

“For more than 20 years I was a federal judge. Do I look like somebody who would make that basic mistake about the law? I don’t think so,” Garland said.

    I like sassy Merrick

  • "In the week since we got started, @KamalaHarris has raised $200 million dollars. 66% of that is from new donors. We've signed up 170,000 new volunteers," Harris' deputy campaign manager, Rob Flaherty, posted on X.

That is a crazy amount of grassroots energy. While the money will be depleted, those 100k volunteers should help to keep the momentum going for the next 99 days. This is really inspiring how quickly and how passionately her supporters have flocked to her.

  • A portion of that is on all of us.

Vote! But first, make sure that you’re registered to vote for your current address, Republicans are notorious for throwing people off voter rolls. It’s especially important if you’ve moved recently, or graduated from college and changed states. Look into if your state offers early voting, or a mail-in ballot, both of which you may be able to do weeks ahead of time.

Once you’re set, like with Oxygen masks, check on others. Especially people in swing states, and those who are infrequent voters. You don’t need to tell them who to vote for, just to vote.

  • It’s all pro-business, he’s doing this so some companies can make a quick buck while poisoning us all down the line.

This is the party of “government so small you could drown it in a bathtub”, it’s just a bit more openly two-faced now. If it’s not useful in directly wielding power, or if it’s costing rich people money, it’s gotta go. If it can be used to benefit those in power, it’s getting hardened.

  • How satisfying is it that the race is no longer the media constantly haranguing that “old man too old”, and now Kamala can just stand back and point and say “that’s odd”?

I’m so relieved that this election is finally able to pivot and be about how uniquely unqualified Trump is, and how very fucking weird he and Vance are. If you’re looking for the side that’s not aligned with American values, it’s the felon and his eyeliner-clad sidekick.

  • It ignited Wednesday when authorities said a man pushed a burning car into a gully in Chico and then calmly blended in with others fleeing the scene

It’s evil human deeds compounding atop short-sighted human actions

  • Trump’s never had the ability to be deliberate with anything, certainly not the tired and diminished Trump we’ve got this cycle.

Trump also only has ambiguity as a strength, because he doesn’t have the mental capacity, or attention span, for specificity. You think he can detail a 5 point plan without getting distracted about sharks and electrocution? His voters like him spoon-feeding him 3 word slogans, and that’s just about all that he can muster these days.
